Few months back I picked up a cheap Xbox One from a neighbor. I haven't owned a console since the Sega Megadrive (aka Genesis) days
So I'm very much out of the loop. This is cool because theres a whole world of AAA games I've never played, or even heard of for that matter. Games that are a few years old are going SUPER cheap too. I bought Doom, Witcher III, and Shadow of Mordor GOTY edition, average price $15 each.
I played Shadow of Mordor first, and haven't even tried the other games yet, so thats a good sign.
No wonder this game won so many awards, its just ridiculously fun and satisfying. They did an incredible job capturing the look, feel and sound of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies. I like how the fighting is so strategic, its difficult but rewarding. At first I was getting killed every time I was surrounded. After I stopped button-mashing and slowed down, started paying attention to the details, the fighting becomes like a beautiful dance that almost feels real (like I would know
). It just feels tactile, like the weapons have weight to them.
My only critique is the world seems small, the edges of the map are too obvious and break the immersion. Guess its an old-ish game though.
