yeah I feel you there not going to rush into buying a console maybe in a year or 2 my xbox 360 and ps3 are plenty ;) I still remember when I got gt1, How much games have changed!

How is gt6 compared to 5? Looks like there's heaps more to do

to be honest I have only gotten my PS3 in the last year- you try to get away from video games but you eventually come back- so I actually skipped GT5 cause I was so busy with other stuff,,,, but I was an avid Gran Tourismo player up untill GT4 on the PS2.. now this newest one just blows me away- karts ! night racing!

haha this was the case when ps3 was released for me. But I still find myself playing the occasional ps2 game or whip out the n64 for some good ol mario kart.

The Gran Turismo online is pretty good, *providing* you have a crew to drive with. Like most racing games there is a large proportion of dickheads who want to do nothing more than smash, crash and bash. That being said being involved in a regular racing group is the best part of any racing game, everybody should try it. Just check your ego at the door first (some people have a hard time going from single player to multiplayer.)

I know this happens alot now, but it seems to happen at a much more rapid pace than in the past. Gran Turismo 5 Online is being shut down ROFL I feel like that shit just came out.

The last couple of SOCOM games are being shut down, I remember when that was all the hype for the PS3, now anyone with those discs ... can't play them.

I'm still depressed that they shut down my PS2 Everquest, we had hundreds of people still playing that every day, doing high end raiding, questing, IMO the best MMO ever made, we were paying for multiple monthly accounts! and they still shut us down because MMOs need like 1mil subscribers to be "worth it" to publishers.

I remember when SOCOM 2 first was ruined with Cheat 9, now it seems like games barely last 1 year before being taken down and most have no single player anymore.

My physical location has a lame capped speed even with fiber.

It's crazy as almost every major US ISP right now is capping data xfer. ONLIVE already failed, the only difference here is PSX branding, which is great, but also a smaller library, especially for games that third parties do not want to re-license or the 3rd party that published the game no longer exists.

It's going to be a rough console generation. They are still behind the PC in terms of graphics and there is no ability to upgrade, unlike say SteamBoxes or some of the newer desktops that allow modular / snap-on type expansions.

The N64 had the memory expansion pack, and it died like all console add-ons die, but IMO it was a fantastic piece of forward thinking hardware that made for better games on the console, it was exactly what consoles need, but just not positioned/sold/marketed correctly and being proprietary hardware also gimped its future.

Now consider something like the PS3 which allowed any laptop HDD to swap in. Instantly upgradable console compatible with off the shelf hardware! Everyone loved it.

The biggest weakness of the PS3 is the OS and the RAM. Imagine if in addition to HDD expansion, Sony had built the PS3 with RAM expansion using off the shelf RAM. Instantly you would have a console more powerful than competing XBOX360 and more comparable to PC graphics.

Not being able to upgrade RAM is the primary thing that holds consoles back IMO, which makes XBONE and PS4 seem/feel more like upgrades to last gen then true "next gen" machines. Sharing videos of gameplay? Utube been doing that for a long time now. Sharing/facebooking games? LIvestreaming? That's all old tech from the PC years ago.

I guess you could say Kinnect is "new" or that the "share button" is new, but those are both nonsense marketing bullet points shoe-horned into the hardware. Every single person I talk to about next gen consoles cringes at the idea of sharing because we all already have youtube and live in a world of over-sharing! in fact I've had quite a few people I know "retire" from gaming with the 360/PS3 gen. The DLC, Online Only, FPS after FPS after FPS drove them out of the hobby. I see it most commonly with people I know who were casual/action gamers. Like dudes who went out and bought Bioshock mini-statues because of how awesome that game was, then they talk about how they couldn't get past the first 15 minutes of Bioshock infinite without feeling like they've already done this a billion times. I'm talking about dudes who would stay home from work on Halo/Madden day! They are packing up their 360s and giving them away to family.

It's like the people who watch youtubes of "Best Halo Kills this week". That's a small niche of super-fans of particular games. Watching FPS kill vids is like really big with 8th graders in Portugal, but I think in general the market for videos of other people playing videogames is already over-saturated.

In fact, I would consider watching COD kill videos with blaring Euro-metal to be the 8th level of hell. And this is coming from someone who played the hell out of Counterstrike and Halo 2 back in the day.

Somebody is buying the new consoles, they are routinely sold out. But I think the long term isn't looking so hot, at least for us OLDZ

Well C.R.A.P. Is the group I raced with in gt5 http://www.crap.boards.net/ (C.R.A.P. = Casual Racing Affiliate Program) we have a few guys from the US but the time-zone thing might be an issue.

Hell you might want to make a post in the FC lounge, you only need 8 people and you could run your own FC racing series (which would be cool)

If neither of those options works for you join GTplanet.net. They have so many racing groups and clubs that cater to all driving styles, you are bound to find one just right for you. If you need any help with finding one hit me up either on FC or on at GTP

Yup..........way back, I was hooked on MotoGP on the original Xbox. Not only did we have our own racing crew, which I founded, but also had our own website which I founded as well. Our crew was called the DirtyLappers and the site was the DirtyNation which was totally dedicated to MotoGP but has since morphed into something else: http://www.thedirtynation.com/category-view.asp?WallAll=0?HideWall=0
Designed the whole logo and site actually.

Racing on 4 wheels is fun, but racing on 2 wheels in a very sim orientated game, took that challenge to a whole other level.

LOL more like problems added.

My last "gaming PC" (off the shelf PC upgraded with GFX/RAM) was bought during the GFWL days. Amazingly I had almost no issues with GFWL (only used it to login to my XBL account) but oh so many other issues (windows Vista!) Before that, I had an older "gaming PC" and was doing early MMOs hard.

I just like consoles better for gaming for a host of reasons. I only got a "gaming PC" for some games that weren't on consoles at the time, or were gimped badly on consoles. Baldur's Gate 2 with the widescreen patch and console commands was very entertaining, still fucking hard as nails even when cheesing some console commands to add gold or weapons.

In fact every console I've bought was specifically for a game or 2. Or because I was "tricked" by promises of games that never came out. :) Like I got an NES for Zelda, a Genesis for NHL/madden, an XBOX for Morrowind, a PC for Fallout 3 / Bioshock / Baldur's Gate / Witcher 1 and a bunch of other RPGs...

I got "tricked" by the PSP and Sega Saturn. No games in the US :=0

But after a while, it's right back to the man-cave for gaming for me. (PC in the office) which it seems is the big deal breaker for many console gamers, buying a full PC just to play games just seems wrong... hence Steam Boxes, the new "PC-Console" hybrid set to destroy the world!

Except the Steam Controller is a fucking joke :)

4 wheels good, Two wheels bad! :p Sounds fun, what kind of custom input devices where you guys using? Never seen a dedicated sim moto setup before.

Spotted the problem right away "off the shelf"

I started playing Rust on my mac...and I admit, I prefer console gaming. Seem much more suited to just lounging around on the couch.

That's a common misconception. You can play PC games whilst seated on a couch, I do it regularly. Then again a Mac for gaming... better stick with a Console.

Yeah, I knew someone was going to cheap shot my mac, but I won't go there. As to PC gaming on a couch, not as cozy to me as with a console...just a personal pref.

Not a cheap shot, apple just isn't that good for gaming... yet. They have over the last few years made some great steps to addressing the lack of gaming on Mac, give it a few more years and they will get there.

This is a classic response. "Build your own, it's cheaper / better!" Not if you consider your normal hourly rate of working and how long it takes :) Even then, self built or off the shelf would have no impact on the evil bastard that was Windows Vista!

Steam boxes kinda solve that, but they are consoles.

Yeah, I knew someone was going to cheap shot my mac, ....

I know, huh? Never ceases to amaze me why people do this. I've been on a Mac ever since the Mac Plus and played WoW and Starcraft on my Mac with all controls maxed out without a hitch. I almost never hear Mac users take cheap shots at PC users, but it happens in reverse a lot.

Can you build a better gaming computer than Mac? Sure you can. You can build a better gaming computer than a standard PC as well. But this whole Mac versus PC thing is gettin' kind of old. This kind of stuff also happens outside of the gaming world as well.

I know that you said you didn't want to go there, Tweek, but I have no problem going there. Bring it on.....................:goon:. lol...............

lol I hear ya...I love my mac. The only thing I don't like, is the price..but it's been rock solid reliable for me for the most part. It's pretty much my portable studio and can handle some pretty heavy tasks on a daily basis.

Maybe in the gaming world. In the corporate enterprise world Mac users are constantly douching up the place with bragging about how slick their macbooks look and how they never have problems. Meanwhile none of them can use any of the enterprise applications without citrix and most standard office apps are broken on Mac OS. But that screen is pretty!

Windows sucks balls, but Mac OS just doesn't seem to feel right, and the first ever home computer I ever touched was a Mac, back when they only had ONE MOUSE CLICK ROFL.:o

The douchey Mac crowd is off the charts annoying in the Bay Area Cali, they just opened this new giant Apple store at the Stanford mall, it's fucking hideously over-sized and attention whoring. I laughed at how it was mostly empty and otherwise just had trolling oldz and kidz checking email.

I see Apple bumper stickers all fucking day on the 101. Apple t-shirts, laptop stickers, people put stickers on their cubicals, office doors, fucking coffee mugs.
Of course the Apple store was "mostly empty" while the Microsoft store... :goat: it looks like NO ONE has ever set foot inside. The Sony store, also usually empty except for kids or people returning Sony tablets :dog:

I think that's the main reason there is so much backlash against mac users, because here in tech-land they are the douchiest wanna bes going. Us windows users know it's an OS and that's it. It's not a lifestyle or a way to think different or anything of the sort. It's a GUI and some hardware. I don't have Windows 7 coffee cups or gym shorts.
