Discontinued G43 and SledGhammer

Hey guys,

Just got my G43, really loving it but there is a main problem I'm dealing with. I keep getting "Device too hot" popping up right around the 3 minute mark. Basically as soon as I'd expect it to be at temp, it says device too hot. The mod is not hot, the batteries are not hot, and the 510 connector is not hot. Not sure why it is giving me that message. Nothing about the device is actually hot except the part that is supposed to be hot. After about 5 seconds it will let me start firing again, but no more than 20 seconds at that point will it pop back up again...so it basically lets me hover right around vaping temp but not with the device consistently running, need to constantly start stop start stop.

Any tips?
Hiya, I got the same message when I tried the Reuleaux RX GEN3 Dual. I had to stop using it. The Sinuous P80 works fine. I never found a fix for the RX GEN3 unfortunately.

These DC/DC converters (mods are really glorified buck/boost converters in reality) were never designed for continuous operation. Absolutely nobody in the e-cig world needs to hold the trigger for more than 15 seconds. They have ridiculously small thermal dissipation capabilities built-in, sometimes not even any heatsink and none have any fans.

So of course they will overheat. It's even surprising your problem is not reported more often in this thread (but it's quite frequent in the tubo one where they also push their chipsets to the limit) Anyway, device too hot means the thermistor mounted somewhere on the PCB inside your device detected an overheat condition. There's nothing you can really do about it excepted lowering your output power... short of opening your mod case to bring fresh air in of course!

Member "Other Side" on VLF is successfully using the Gen3 dual...he reported this just today or yesterday I believe. May want to go over there and ask him a few setup questions for the Gen3 dual.

I might help you narrow down the problem. :hmm:
Basic questions first. Is it set at the baseline/standard of 10.5v? Are you using it upright or on it's side at all?

Visually, Do the wires look OK? Do any of the beads turn red hot at all? Are the exposed parts of the wire intact? Inspect the connectors to see if you are shorting anything. Unkink any wires if need be.

Do you think you might be forming hot spots and then getting the message?

I do think the glass does get tempered after a few usages. So it could very well correct itself. :2c: Let us know a little more with what is happening with the heat profile and then the hardware.

Sounds like it overheats or think it is overheating. either cools down or forgets and allows you to fire on again. Hope this all helps.

@CuckFumbustion thanks cucker,
Starting at 11v, upright.
Everything looks good. Beads not red hot. Connectors all look good.

Basically everything seems to run exactly as it should, just that my mod reads the internal temperature as "too hot" even though everything external is completely fine.

Going to try using 3 batteries (attachment to my mod), maybe letting it heatup for 2 minutes, then pausing, then heatup again (maybe internals cool down faster than the glass). Not ideal, but possibility for success.

Edit: 3 batteries was worse, hit the device too hot message within a minute, much faster.
Edit 2: it's also odd because my Splinter can run on cruise mode in TC mode for quite a while...longer than 3 minutes, and the splinter actually does get hot...

What's the highest rated wattage I can use with the g43? If I can shorten the heatup time, I can get a hit...

edit 3: tried 13W from cold, first cruise it went 2 minutes before too hot, took out battery, put back in, and it went for another 50 seconds. Took batt out, put back in, went for another 40 seconds, then decided to stop. Obviously not the best method.

So do I try higher wattages to try to beat the device too hot and still get a hit, or do i keep wattage lower to try to get it to heat longer...

Edit 4: 10W from cold lasted for nearly 3 minutes before turning off, and taking out battery and turning it back on lasted about minute 10 before turning off again.
Charging up a different type of battery to see if that makes a difference.

Edit 5: should the coil/ohms (that horseshoe symbol thing) be locked or should they be bouncing around? Would that affect anything?

I remember reading an earlier posting from Bud stating that you needed some certain settings and firmware so that it keeps on 'cruising' @ 11W.. Maybe you need to update the firmware or sth similar?
just downloaded myevic and I got device too hot within 2 minutes or so. The one I downloaded didn't have autofire so I just held it down...

Somewhere in the menu, there are two settings that need to be switched.
★ HOW TO ENABLE AUTO-FIRE ★

1) Open main menu by pushing the power button and + button at same time

2) Go to Vaping menu

3) Scroll down to "AutoFi" and toggle it ON

4) Set "ATime" to infinity

To engage cruise mode simply press the power button for a quick moment and then release, the power should now stay on until you hit the main button again :ok:

★ OTHER SETTINGS ★

To enable 0.1 watt adjustments:

1) Open main menu by pushing the power button and + button at same time

2) Go to Interface menu

3) Toggle OFF the "1Watt" setting

To enable stealth mode if you get the "device hot" error:

Hold down the power button and the - button at the same time for one second. This will turn off the screen but still allow full functionality of the mod.

To raise temp sensor if you get the "device hot" error:

Open menu, click on Expert, click on MAX, raise value to 99ºc (210ºf).

If you still get any errors on your mod try reinstalling the latest firmware again, this has worked for a few people to fix the issue.

If things are working properly, the cruise mode on 10.5 will have about a 1w fluctuation but still should heat up properly. You shouldn't need to outsmart the MOD with a special needs temp profile to get your G to work, Hope this helps!

Thank you for that,
unfortunately whatever I downloaded doesn't have a "max". Nor does 1 click activate autofire. The link to the firmware isn't working, so I just googled myevic firmware and downloaded that. I guess it's not the same.

Good we seem to be narrowing down the problem anyway. Here is Buds thread for the G43 with the start up guide. -> https://forum.vapelife.com/search?Search=g43

Here is the first part of the Faq.
G43 Mods & Firmware
The G43 vaporizer needs to be connected to a mod controller for power, and the mod needs a custom firmware installed on it that adds an "auto-fire" feature.

★ COMPATIBLE MODS ★

These mods have been tested by me personally with the G43 and work great:

  • Wismec Sinuous P80 (single 18650)
  • Wismec Reuleaux RX3 GEN3 Dual (dual 18650)

Here's a list of other mods that have been tested by real end users and have been reported to work properly (help me expand this list!):

  • Joyetech eVic Primo Mini
  • Joyetech eVic VTC Dual
  • Wismec Reuleaux RX2 21700

I was using the old tubo firmware and only just recently tried the myevic just to see if it would fix the issue. Not sure how to get the right firmware at this point as none of the links are working for me.

I can get to those, but that is just to start the upload for when you download the myevic.bin, but I still need the .bin I believe ...
I'll have to visit them and look into that later. In the meantime.:2c: Look and ask here and on the Vape Life forum for help as well. Also the faq for the firmware might shed some light. the .bin could be compressed in the main file perhaps?

@tom2199 excatly what I needed
@CuckFumbustion
That did the trick guys, good teamwork. Just needed the proper firmware. I just ran it for 6 minutes without issue. Only time will tell if it continues on this way, but so far 10.5w ran flawlessly.

Thanks so much for helping my grumpy ass yesterday, I appreciate it very very very very much.
(was literally up until 5:30am trying to figure this out)

SUCCESS! Glad we could help. I was getting frustrated with the MOD at first and had to seek some answers for myself and throughout the forums. :bang:There was less of us G owners as well. Fortunatly, the folks at Vape life forum got me up to speed.

@VCBud originally wanted a sled arrangement without using a Mod to get it to work. Due to time constraints and other considerations he designed it around the Mod compatibility. However, He had a breakthrough recently when revisited the OG concept and made a new sled version and had better coil choice and how it was meant to be wrapped. So the sled version will be primed and ready to be tweaked even further whenever he decides to release it. And it will be the OG concept. Only it will be even more self contained. Apparently the resistance needed is different between a MOD tailored G43 and a Cel-sled G43. So they are not as cross compatible as hoped. :ugh: There goes that dream I had.

Does the G43 put out similar results compared to the Glass Symphony?

I'm sure some will chime in here soon.....but even though I have not had the opportunity to use a GS....I would think with a larger heating element you get more power...but the G43, GS, and say an Elev8r are all top tier quality vapor producers...they just differ in what you get and what they are better at.

I used to think the flowerpot hit hard.....it does...but for me it is more harsh than hard. This is only because large or powerful metal heating elements irritate me. So sometimes "hard" means different things for me.
