FROLIC by Limelight Herb

It seems like a lot of folk are vaping at quite high temps, near 400f and I typically vape around 360f. How does the Frolic compare to a vape such as Crafty, Mighty, Venty or another vape with accurate temp, set at same temp?
Oh, temps around 400F are only in on-demand mode where they generally have to be higher since there's no conduction going on. In session mode you can vape comfortably anywhere from 350-385F and get good vapor but in on-demand you generally need >=385F.

Edit: I don't really think you can compare temp readings among different devices where the physics and materials of each device is quite different. I think manufacturers do their best to get the numbers in the right ballpark but 400F on one device will rarely be exactly the same on another device.

Some devices don't even have digital temp displays to compare with which is fine with me. As long as the taste and the extraction is to your liking then knowing the exact temp from a device with an analog dial like the TM2 isn't really that relevant I think. :2c:

How much does the Frolic cook the herb between hits? Do wisps of vapor come out of the mouthpiece like in S&B vapes due to the bowl conduction?

Still enjoying getting to know the Frolic. So far it's a great little device.

I'm getting about 8 bowls per full charge which is great. I've been trying session and on-demand modes roughly equally. I tried the AVLP caps without the tops and it's a perfect fit with that extra clearance. I didn't think caps would be ideal for on-demand performance but I decided to try an on-demand session at 400F with the top-less AVLP cap just to see. It worked great so I may continue to use them even in on-demand mode to keep the unit cleaner.
Without the cap tops, how are you preventing the herb from sticking to the cooling unit when you open the bowl? Do you first tap the device on a table or something?

Still wondering what the initial idea behind the two screens were. The lower one trying to keep bud in oven, but why the second? Wouldn't just the lower been fine for all use cases?

Also wondering whether (all?) EU shipments were send out yesterday or at all?
Maybe you could comment on both, @Dejan LimelightHerb ?

Has anyone in EU already received shipping details?

Similar to S&B portables, the Frolic does have wisps of vapor slowly creep out the mouthpiece between hits as the heater is very powerful.

I have not used caps at all so far and have not had any of my ABV stick to the screen, but I have been slightly tamping each load before vaping. By tamping, there is just a compressed puck of ABV that easily falls out when slightly tapping the device on my palm upside down.

My Frolic arrives in hours and I'm vibrating with excitement.

I always thought that was due to the vapor cooling maze not being cleared. So all that vapor sitting inside the top is just spilling out with nothing to contain it, more than the device pumping it out.

There is some conduction going on as well in session mode that contributes to this effect, but certainly less when in on-demand if cleared fully after each hit.

So yes, you do see vapor creeping out of the mouthpiece sometimes but as mentioned here, I think this is due to the user not completely clearing the vapor out of the cooling maze.

Your question about conduction between hits in an interesting one. In on-demand mode, there is certainly no (or extremely little) cooking of your flower between hits as the heater is off if you're not holding the button. There may be some latent heat present from a previous draw but it should dissipate quickly.

In session mode, the heater is always working so there is some conduction happening as the bowl is heated but Dejan has mentioned that the conduction effect is not that pronounced (around 20%). I think the bowl is not directly heated electrically but gets warm through the constant convection of the heater's hot air rising, and also when you draw of course.

I actually tested this by trying to vape hand-torn nuggets in session mode and even at 400F, they didn't vape really well because of the lack of surface area, highlighting that the Frolic's power is heavily convection biased even in session mode. Vaping ground flower at 400F in session mode would've produced huge clouds. So to answer your question, your flower doesn't cook much at all in the Frolic in between hits in session modes and not at all in on-demand modes.

Yeah, as another user mentioned, a little tamp goes a long way to preventing any sticking to the CU screen. Also just using a cap sort of promotes a bit of tamping to scoop it in there.

Sounds like most are getting more vapor from session mode as conduction increase is aiding in vaporization and possible allow users to use a lower temp in session mode than on-demand to achieve a similar vapor or ABV?

I’m happy to hear the herb doesn’t cook much between hits in on demand mode, as this is the mode I’ll likely use most. Love having the choice to use session mode though.

I also i imagine on-demand mode may require more battery overall? Seems counterintuitive as the heater isn’t always on, like session mode but I think it takes more juice to heat a big coil like this than it does to maintain the heat?

Question: does the Frolic maintain a little heat / current during on demand mode between hits, to achieve faster temp next time or is the device completely “off/cold”between hits until you hit the button?

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok. I am so excited. My Frolic arrived today! I AM IN LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Ok...bye bye some of my vapes and put on the back burner because baby the Frolic arrived, and it is just GORGEOUS!

Listen...I am not technical, more emotional...I can say that I used my vape at 350 F with a capsule from that place called what is it S and B. (small joke) ...and I packed Northern Lights in a medium grind...in session mode. My first hit was taste and knocked my rocker off. I am so high right now and it feels so good. The vape is good to hold and it feels classy. (happy dance right now) I am a patient, and my hands are not that great, and this vape was super easy for me to handle...so, I cried. This is a big deal. I really love this vape. The screen is so easy to read...

The instruction manual is GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT! It is a size that you can actually read without glasses! I love this vape HUGELY....I would not compare it to anything....it is in its OWN category. So, very elegant and modern...just superb.

Congratulations on this amazing launch and your product is just too good to be true...and its true. I just love mine. It will now have a rotation spot with my Vapman, Tinymight, Volcano and now Frolic. Frolic is a TOP contender....

All said with love...

DrG

PS Also my Bowle is in rotation.

*One more thing...the only thing missing is a nice vape case for it. That would be amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love to see new companies expand our space in a positive way. Super excited to see another vape, pushing these companies to be better. Seems like this vape is living up to the hype so far. I’m going to give it a little while, but if it can take a beating from the FC folks and keep maintaining a consistent performance I will own it eventually.

Love to hear all of the pro and cons of this vape. The owner has been very impressive with everything so far as well. Wishing them the best. Enjoy everyone.

I'm glad you're liking it so much!

Please share your comparisons here 🙏 https://fuckcombustion.com/posts/1859713/

Thanks :)
I forgot to mention the presentation it comes in...packaged so very well. The tube it comes in has a piece of plastic inside and I took it out and am using it as a stand.

The packaging of the items...with the little insert giving us the measurements of everything...I am not going to use that chart but, I love having it and understanding the brain of this designer. He thought of everything including a measurement chart! LOL I mean this is just perfect. What detail! Outstanding truly.

I used it again right now with the capsules...and its bloody perfect. Tonight, we are planning to bring out the water and try it. Happy Frolic day!

PS A case would be nice to have with this...I love the outside of it. Cheers.

frolic arrived today and I didn't even get to the burn off phase or use it stock before I'd tricked it out all tae heck.

-Red optical filter over the screen that dims and goes with the whole "80s Retro Future" aesthetic. Was super easy to get the bottom plate off and access everything). The screen is indeed super bright but that just makes it even better when dimmed by the color filter.

-Custom dome shaped mouthpiece that allows 510 driptips to be used (gold DotAIO SE mp installed currently). This deletes the airflow control, which I'm totally fine with. This leaves the airflow so open that I could probably breath normally through the device without issue. frolic is so powerful that it gives easy clouds in abundance with wide open airflow at 420F.

The hype on this thing is REAL omg.

I'm absolutely floored by everything from presentation to usage. Build quality is of course amazing, but the build *design* quality is really special, too. There are so many little things everywhere that speak to a lot of thought put into both the device and user experience. It's like a really good thinkpad, or mid 2000s Apple.

Vapor is dense, flavorful, and comes in huge clouds. A full, fluffy pack of .16 can be cleared in 2 rips. It's eyewatering and throat burning from the terpenes, yet cool temperature wise. This doesn't just hit hard, it absolutely bodies you.

The firmware remembers your settings between session and on demand. So you can run different temperatures and such for either, without having to touch anything when you switch back and forth.

Heat up is near instant, and it reheats in a moment. I'm really impressed by how quick and easy it is to pick up and get results from.

A couple things I would change if I could:

- Magnets to hold the lid on. I can see how the oring is a better and simpler solution, though. Since these were shipped without lubrication on the oring, I probably just need to add some beeswax to it to smooth things.

- Smoother PEEK ridges around the heater. These seem really grippy and harsh to my palms. It's not painful or something I can't live with, I'd just like it a bit smoother/rounded on the edges. Maybe I'll try sanding it at some point. It's nice that it's grippy so I don't worry about dropping it, though.

*One more thing...the only thing missing is a nice vape case for it. That would be amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SERIOUSLY @Delta3DStudios I need a slim case for this that lets me use the device without removing it from the case. If I had a delta3d case IDK if I'd use a lot of my other vapes or stray far from the frolic ever again.
