First time butter and brownies

Over the past several months, I have collected a "schwag jar" of previously vaped material and unused material. Yesterday, I combined this 1.5-2oz of schwag with just over 1 pound of butter. Unfortunately, the schwag was pre-ground, so I couldn't strain it effectively. I ended up with evergreen-tinted butter filled with tiny bits of vegetation. Undeterred, I bought a cheap brownie mix. The recipe called for 3/4 cup vegetable oil, so I substituted 3/4 cup (10-12 tablespoons) of my homemade schwag butter.

The brownies turned out quite moist and chewy although the schwag scent is unappetizing. Since I hadn't cut them quite evenly, I picked out the smallest brownie. It was a half-sized brownie just smaller than my thumb. I ate the brownie slowly over the course of 90 minutes then went to bed. About 30 minutes after going to bed, the effects began. I talked myself through a brief anxiety attack then tried to sleep. I kept having interesting dreams and getting up to urinate. I woke up around 11am today with a headache that I treated with Advil and Excedrin. Over the past several hours, I experienced what is probably meant by "couchlock", a sense of lethargy and mild disassociation.

The effects are wearing off, but I'm reluctant to eat a regular-sized brownie given how dramatic the effects were after eating a half-sized brownie. Also, I'm a bit of a pussy about anxiety attacks (ya think?). Interestingly, I can exercise hard for 30 minutes and not care about my heartbeat, yet I eat a brownie and start obsessively fingering my own neck for a pulse. Any thoughts on this?

Edibles are not for everyone and especially with ABV you are left with higher range goodies that can produce major couchlock. I've also had people get too damn high for like 12-18hrs from edibles with hallucinations, etc. I usually issue a seriously strong warning to anyone trying them for the first time.

It also takes time for liver to process and sometimes the effects intensify over time. Some people get antsy and eat more goodies before the one they ate 30 mins ago has even peaked. It's a challenge to find your tolerance without going off the deep end.

I actually make a ton of tinctures/hard candy but give 99% to cancer patients or chronic pain sufferers to help them sleep or deal with pain. I totally understand your anxiety as I don't like the out of control feeling myself. I prefer to vape my herb and use edibles only on once in awhile. It's a personal preference kind of thing. They just may not be for you or if so, small doses here/there. Good luck! Don't over do it lol.

Just like the ol days w/ shrooms and lsd, I need to allow an 'acclimation' period when eating medibles. It doesn't happen always, but I usually feel 1/2 hour or so of discomfort (centered in the chest) and anxiety. It always goes away as my body acclimates and then I'm fine. I've found it worthwhile to make sure and do enough to make this acclimation period worthwhile - as it is typically the same whether I eat a little or a lot.

Cheesecloth will help strain the finer particles out of the mix. Placing the cheesecloth in a potato ricer will also save a lot of work and extract more goodies than you can by hand.

I just made bitter with avb yesterday. I used about 1.5oz of avb for 3 sticks of butter. I added the butter, herb, and 2 cups of water into a semi tall pot and brought the butter and water to a slight simmer then stirred the abv in and let it simmer with a top slightly open for 5 hours, stirring every 20 mins.

I used cheesecloth inside of a strainer and still got particles and a semi dark colored butter. My problem is, after straining into a container, I put it in a freezer to harden the butter. At first it was going well and solidifying. Then the top half or so solidified and under neath there's a somewhat thick layer of liquid and it didn't even freeze.

My question is, am I supposed to pour that liquid off and keep what's solidified or wait longer for it to solidify? If I pour it off, can I do anything with that liquid? I need help guys thanks.

Choosing avb, you don't have much choice over the color of finished product. Don't know what to say about the particles as this method produces clean butter for me. The finished product will separate into fats and water - yes, pour the water off after the butter solidifies. I always do this in the fridge, not the freezer.

Although I haven't tried it myself, I've heard about water curing, which basically removes the scent and flavor from weed.

You should read into it and give it a try on a small about, then if it works, make another batch of brownies. Unfortunately, that doesn't make the high any less powerful. My recommendation on that would be to eat 1/4 of a brownie next time, record the results, and adjust as needed.

At this point, it would just be water soaking. Not sure what the results would be. Water curing is just that, a curing process that happens w/ freshly harvested material that hasn't already been cured by a different method. Who knows, it might help.

Well the soaking water absorbs the terpenes (sp?) and other chemicals that help aid the removal of smell and taste.

Although it can be done right after harvesting to have a quicker cure time.

I've seen some water curing methods after I made my butter. The color doesn't bother me, I expected it to be dark. I left it in the freezer too long, the water solidified beautifully, but the water froze a little. I put it in the fridge to being the water back without melting butter. All is well, but if water curing can take the smell and taste out of abv that would be phenomenal. We need to find someone that has tried it
