This vape looks quite small. How small is it in RL. The design is kinda weird. How does it fit in the hand?

Is the glass mouthpeice retractable?

I'll post some in-hand pics later - same footprint as FW4, odd shape actually fits really comfortably w/ button at your middle finger and mouthpiece angled towards you, it's all very intentional. Glass mouthpiece is slightly adjustable, but always pokes out a half inch or so.

The interface improvement from FW4 to FW5 is impressive - I thought the FW4 was so nice and ubiquitous, FW5 takes it farther to compliment the new ergonomics. Button always at the ready, no more manual on/off or primer puffs to start heat cycles, you can do everything you need (check battery, set temps, hold down for draws) from one position, nice.

Same, one per session, sometimes multiple sessions/day, often not. Taking a few days to get thru a tray seems to be just fine, that's what I've been doing, going for low-temps (ie more draws which can mean more battery usage) gets the battery to ~3.75 volts. So if it suits you, you can load once every five sessions, however many days that takes you (up to a point I'm sure, tolerances are very tight but there must be some oxygen exchange going on).

Going forward, I'll mostly load two chambers at a time, suits my use and I'll swap in a fresh battery at the same time for the easiest/most distracted technique (that's where I can just hand the vape to a combusting friend w/ almost no instruction).

Somehow I'm quite sure FW knew the multiple bowl clip wouldn't please everyone . As someone said , it's not like the vape suffers in size due to the clip , and as someone else mentions , a person can use 1 or two bowl as necessary. If only using one , well you have 4 clean bowls to alternate with or 4 clean/spare screens always a positive way of looking at things , well , most times, lol ...

I personally wonder how tight things are, how clip clicks or locks into place , the mouthpiece sticking out kind of looks like a cell phone antenna, use black glass and you can pretend talking on phone if strangers walking by

There's more going on beneath the surface, hopefully someone who understands better than me can chime in, but for the user, you got one button, ready to press:
single press - check battery, 1 to 5 buzz response
double press - low setting, 2 buzzes to confirm
triple press - medium setting, 3 buzzes to confirm
quadruple press - high setting, 4 buzzes to confirm
sustained press - turns heater on, single buzz when it hits temp (1-2 seconds), then keep holding while you draw. If you draw too fast for the heater, multiple buzzes let you know, it's much harder to out draw the heater w/ the FW5 than w/ the FW4.

So for example, my typical sesh:
triple press to set to medium, sustained press for first draw, double press to set to low, sustained presses for 3-4 flavorful draws, triple press to go back to medium, sustained presses for 1-2 finishing draws, done. No shaking, stirring, no colorful lights, nothing that requires two hands, just a good interface.

Man I got my FW5 today too. I unfortunately recently got rid of all of my 20 amp drain batteries so the Samsung it came with is slowly charging up. But your post just made me even more exited! As you said it seems like the firewood’s always work well out of the box. Idk how Marc does it either, the firewood’s have always been solid and great performers. I love the fact that I know I am going to get a good experience out of the 5, firewood vapes just work. And for an on demand convection unit that’s amazing. My unit is even more beautiful and smaller than I expected. Can’t wait for my first bowl. Will report back later.

2 bowls in. This thing works really well. Better than the FW4 for sure. I was able to draw fast, faster than with most vapes honestly and get effortless clouds on low and medium temp. A water pipe solution of some kind would be nice. It doesn’t really need one because it’s so smooth but I think it would just be fun to rip this one through a rig. Amazing vape all around. Gonna dedicate some use to this for a few weeks and see how it keeps up. For now it’s hitting as had or harder than most of my portables with great flavor and even extraction. This vape is gonna be hard to beat for on the go. It’s tiny and gets you baked extremely fast. The Argo will still win for stealth but damn. This thing packs a punch for a tiny vape.

FW5 is fully my daily driver now, it’s been camping, dog walking, and shared w combusting friends, I don’t have any other tests to run.

Had some inconsistency while experimenting w different amounts, all came down to pack: FW5 prefers a tamped down load, if it’s too loose the heat doesn’t linger where it should. Want a microdose? Works great, just make sure the screen is covered. Want heavy hits and want to make it easiest for newbies? Fill bowl w a medium-light tamp. Super consistent and quick results now.

Just really happy, the simplified interface is the best, all the decisions in the form and function of this vape make sense, not wanting for power, and having everything I need for days in one package rules. I DO NOT miss loading bowls out in the field, the ability to pack-n-go is turning into one of my favorite features.

I don't have the most sensitive nose, and it's hard to control for the many different smell quotients of a bag of weed, but I've taken 3-4 days to get through a full tray a couple times and not been aware of any smells. Visiting a dispensary soon, I'll test w/ a good purple or diesel and report back.

The tolerances are very tight between hardwood and ceramic, but there must be some oxygen transfer happening, so there must be some reasonable limits to life in the tray. I try to only load what I expect to get to that day, but feel fine letting it ride till the next day.

So, i've been using my FW5 for about a week. I really like the on demand/pick it up and go aspect of the FW5. Have the tray loaded up and ready to go, pick it up, press the button and vapor within seconds. The FW5 remembers the last heat setting you put in, so if you had it on heat level 3 on the last session, when you pick it up and hold down the button, it gives a short buzz to let you know that its heating up and heats up to heat level 3. A few seconds after taking the hit you get a slightly longer buzz to let you know that its powering down. I think that this is quite an improvement over the FW4 procedure which was: Hold down power button, wait for long buzz, press power button to desired heat level, wait for it to buzz back, primer puff, buzz, then start drawing.

Overall build and components are excellent. I really like the implementation of the ceramic pieces and the slightly flared mouthpiece. Really easy to pop out the ceramic pieces and just throw them in some iso to clean. I also think the little ceramic piece where the screen is will be a great place to collect that oil and wont clog up.

The vape feels great in the hands. I never really had a problem with the FW4 ergonomics but when using both the FW4 and FW5 back to back I did feel that the shape of the FW5 was a definite improvement.

Air flow is EXCELLENT. The FW5 provides a free and open air flow versus the FW4. I felt like the air flow on the FW4 was not as tight as some other vapes but felt a little constricting at times. I guess this can vary depending on grind/pack technique.

Vapor quality is another plus. All I can say is cool tasty clouds. The FW4 would get pretty warm/harsh due to the short vapor path.

I like the implementation of the loading tray, it is definitely another big improvement. At first I was kind of confused on how the loading tray would be used versus the capsule system and if the tray was a better solution but im glad I put my faith in Marc. The size stayed true to the FW4 yet, you don't need to carry around a capsule holder with you anymore. I do agree that the tolerances are tight between the tray, it feels kind of odd inserting/removing the tray at times, but im sure i'll get used to it pretty quickly.

Future improvement? I think it would be great to have a battery door with a juicy WPA Adapter. I'm sure thats the last thing Marc is thinking about while hes trying to fill all the preorders but I hope it's something that he has considered. (For those of you who don't want to wait, I think that you can use this, i'm pretty sure I saw @paytonpenn using it in his video)

Overall I would say this is a definite improvement over the FW4 and im glad Marc put the extra amount of time into a new model rather than a FW4.5. Huge props to @firewood on the FW5, it is such a great vape and i'm always blown away when I think that one guy makes all of these beauties yet still makes time to respond to all of the emails personally. Really happy with the customer service as well. I had a slight fitment issue with the battery door, sent a few emails to him, shipped it off to him, and the turn around time was 1 WEEK!

I haven't had any VAS since I got my FW4 but it looks like Marc has done it again.

I do have 2 questions I hope you don't mind answering:

1 - Does the dosing tray stick out from the body of the FW5 when in use? Seems like that would mean that any bowls on the end that had already been used would need to be emptied before the inner bowls could be used. I'm guessing that I'm misunderstanding how it works so any clarification you can provide would be appreciated.

2 - The FW5 page on the website mentions that it comes with a disassembly tool. What exactly is that for and how does it work?

Thanks for the size comparison. Amazing how close it is to the FW4's size, even with the cartridge. The FW4 was already one of the smallest 18650 vapes around so this is an impressive feat in my eyes.

I just ordered one. Don't really need it but marc's craftsmanship and professionalism has always impressed me, and I love that he took the risk with this very unique design. Excited to try it out, and already excited to see what he thinks of for the FW6

So when you're done with the second bowl then you'll have 2 bowls worth of tray sticking out when you get to the third, I guess. Does that mean you need to be able to empty those spent bowls as you go in order to keep them from self-emptying while you're using subsequent bowls?
