Firewood Vaporizer

I don't think it will be too bad because the chambers should be enclosed

Do you mean enclosed during use? or will the "hanging" chambers look as they do in your current pictures with just a hole with the herb sitting on a screen.

As far as levels I guess I'm not super qualified to talk on this but a higher level heat setting for quick bowls would be nice but I'm usually midrange and prefer like 370-390 for temp of air hitting my herb.

I thought the fw4 levels were good w the +7-14 degrees w the trick (more than that was silly imo) was pretty dang good. I was typically on 3 or 4 for heat level and that provided a nice mix of flavor and vapor. I do think just from the pics that this will be quite nice... a lot of my issues with glass chamber vapes is that it's hard to get enough heat to really get even vaping (in my limited experience with glass tip vapcaps and the fw4) since the glass doesn't conduct heat as well... the heat flowing thru the center wasn't enough to cook the herb on the outside ring of the chamber (away from the airstream) often times.

depends on size of load, herb quality, grind, temp setting, etc. I did a quick test last night on heat level 3 (out of 4) with some homegrown carnival. I don't have a good scale, so I had to measure out 0.8g, then divide it in half a few times to get 3 chambers with approx. 0.1g, 0.05g and 0.025g (not sure how accurate). The 0.025g was basically a pinch, and gave a good draw and a half and took 1 1/2 mins from start to last exhale. The 0.05g gave a couple more draws and took around 2 1/2 mins. The 0.1g took around 5 mins. If I crank it to level 4 0.1g would be quite a bit faster, closer to 3 mins, but also gets on the edge on combusting and doesn't taste as good as level 3. I may change the levels a bit still, but I do like the idea of keeping a level that might not taste quite as good but can get the job done real quickly if needed.

yes, but not ready yet
Both glass tubes and the ceramic "L joint" pull out for cleaning.

Awesome. That's pretty quick and sounds like it will be a microdosing champ. I have my heater in my firewood 4 set up 3 clicks as I like getting through a bowl quickly and using it native. I hope you don't change the fact that 4 is right on the edge without going over. Can't wait to find out more.

I have my FW4 set at +2 clicks on the heat setting and I love that I can finish bowls really quickly. I love a vape with a max temperature setting that is very near combustion!

I am so excited to get my hands on a FW5.

I think it is going to need an airtight case for sure. My FW4 setup with 3 extra capsules definitely stinks if not kept cased up in something.

It looks like a whale. Maybe a Beluga?

@firewood can you tell us more about the heater in the fw5? I recall you discussing radiant heat ...
The heater enclosure in changing from glass to ceramic and the geometry is quite a bit different. It definitely gets more of a radiant heat contribution than fw4, but fw4, and a lot of other vapes, definitely also get some help from radiant heat. How much depends on geometry, draw speed, etc.

When the tray is pushed all the way in nothing is exposed and it is ready for vaping the 1st chamber. After the 1st chamber you pull the tray out 1 notch and vape the 2nd chamber, then pull out 1 more notch and vape the 3rd chamber (like shown in the last picture). For the 4th and 5th chambers you rotate the tray 180 degrees so that the spent chambers are on the inside and the tray doesn't overhang too much. When not in use you can easily push the tray in so nothing is exposed.

It won't have higher levels, but will definitely be much faster.

fw5 will have only 3 heat levels instead of 4, but each level can be separately tweaked up or down (this time 4 clicks equals one full temp setting).
Been quiet here, no a problem just updates are fun.
Hopefully will be selling units within 2 weeks.

I need this vape in my life and I have so much respect for your ingenuity and work ethic - quietly delivering us revolutionary vapes one after another, on time, for a very fair price. I feel almost obligated to buy your products!

My biggest concern is that I will desperately want this thing with me during concert/festival season and WTF is gate security going to say when they see this?! How can this thing be explained? I don't even know where to start!

The new model seems like a home portable rather than a take out and about portable. It's definitely interesting. I can't deny I wish I could set up back to back bowls every single day! Very interesting concept.

It's hard to tell from the photo, when the tray is sticking out will there be anything on top of the bowl or could we spill a spent load out if it turned sideways? I love the idea of multiple bowls, but don't want to make a mess

As StonerSloth said, thank you for your efforts and ingenuity. I had and enjoyed the fw3 and fw4 for quite some time before gifting them to friends who are still using them now.

I am in the same boat. I am intrigued with the new design but part of my soul dies when I think about the fact that I cannot buy a new FW3 or FW4 to replace my existing ones. The new design may be good but it appears to trash the stealth that I appreciate so much about the older units (I suspect the taste will be as good, so I don't concern myself there). To be honest, it's very easy to pop in a new capsule, so the ability to sequence in a new bowl isn't really a hot button issue for me.

Eager to see the new design in its final form, as we’ve only seen pics of a rough beta. Remember how refined the FW4 is compared to the 3? So many design issues balanced in the precision of the battery cover, plus the much improved heater... Marc has proven himself w each new iteration, I know I’m not the only one who’ll just buy the 5 and figure out what I like about it when it’s in my hands.

Sorry, I guess it has been over 2 weeks now and it still isn't released. Good thing I didn't take anybody's money yet ;)
I'm getting really close, just need to work out a few minor manufacturing and calibrations details. Hopefully I'll have the first production batch out next week.

I am torn between picking up a used Firewood 4 or a Solo II. Wanted to see if anyone in this thread has experience with both?

My 3 top features in order are:

1. Flavor
2. Ease of use
3. Good battery life

I have experience with neither but consider it to be worth mentioning that they are two different kinds of vapes. I’m here because I have an interest in convection vaporizers and have watched fw carefully over the years and am very curious to see how number 5 works out.

The solo 2 is from everything I’ve read an excellent vape with the solo 1 boasting a longstanding and illustrious reputation. My first vape was an air, a mini solo 1 so to speak, and I was glued to it for a couple of years. Once good on-demand convection style vapes sarted appearing on the market I abandoned my air and haven’t returned. Perhaps making a
decision as to a preference for conduction or convection will point you toward one or the other.

“2 weeks” was a month ago. Has a vaporizer ever been released when the manufacturer said it would be?
