Looks like they still have parts... EScribe software download there too.

I know you can disable the cap detection feature in escribe as well. My cap has never seemed to exhibit that failure, works fine.. wonder if overloading and too much reclaim builds up and blocks the magnetic switch? If not and cap is acting weird try a hard reboot first and if no luck reflash the firmware - worth a shot.

So I did a deep clean and took out the tub and clean the inside of the silicone band. I resembled the unit and it won’t heat… anyone had this happen before?

Did you recalubrate after reassembly? Didnt have that issue when I reassembled mine but I did recalibrate before trying to heat it again.

What size allen key does the Cricket use? Unfortunately the used one I got didn't come with a key, and I'd like to check out beneath the gasket to see if needs any cleaning.
Not sure if you found the answer yet, but according to their website here, it's 3/32".

Does anyone know if Evolv will replace the black rubber cover for the tub? I’ve been noticing the rubber is kind of peeling off

How does the Cricket hold up nowadays? Been thinking of picking one up if I can find a 420 sale this year, would be nice to have a more configurable pocket rig.

It's a king for pocket stealth, flavor, and efficiency, and I use it at home sometimes too. I must warn though, when I bought mine about a year ago, it came packaged in packaging that did not keep the device secure and protected, and it arrived damaged. It was a huge hassle getting a replacement from Evolv, and the replacement came in the exact same packaging that failed in the exact same way. They shipped it in a display case in which the heavy stainless steel Cricket is held in place by a flimsy paper strap that gets ripped when it's thrown around in shipping, and then the Cricket can come loose and it will be bouncing around in the unpadded display case. Luckily the replacement Cricket somehow stayed in place even though the strap ripped, and was not noticeably damaged. I've seen at least one other person say theirs came in the same packaging that also failed. I can't really recommend paying the price for one of these when they're shipping them that carelessly. I hope they've changed that.

Is the battery still holding up well? How harsh is the vapour? So far I have only really tried the Proxy for concentrates and it’s a little rough without water for me.

Oh that’s not great, at least they replaced it! Good to know, will have to see if any of the headshops nearby have it in stock.

Yeah my battery is still perfectly fine, I haven't been using it super heavily though. I don't find it to be significantly harsher than the other ways I vape oil, but I'm also the type of person who pretty much likes to hit everything with as dry and short a vapor path as possible. It can have a bit of a terp tickle sometimes for me, which I personally don't consider "harsh". I haven't tried any of the Puffco stuff. My 2 other most used concentrate setups right now are a SiC enail and a Dynacoil. I would say the Cricket is probably slightly harsher than a dab off of the enail or a banger, and a decent bit smoother than the Dynacoil for me.

Ah, that does help, thank you! I used the dynacoil quite a bit when the proxy was too harsh for me since it really required me to slow my draw down.

A lot is dependant on your use case. This puppy can coconut milk a hydrotube in less than 2 seconds. Using native, I find it harsher over 480ish and like to run through a dry hydrotube for cooling. Concentrate type plays a roll as well, some are just harsher than others. Temp stepping with smaller inhales helps a lot and allows I can go to 515f comfortably. I do find it a bit more harsh than some other portable options that have better airflow designs. If you like micro dabs though this is a REALLY nice versatile unit. If your not into micro-dabs keep looking

If you don't like a slow draw, the Cricket may not be the right choice. It works similarly to the MFLB with very low thermal mass, but with extra circuitry and software for precise control. Drawing too fast may cool the tub to below the temperature you want. More importantly, you may splatter the concentrate out of the tub, or even suck it right up the mouthpiece.

I think the pivot blows the cricket away, if only in how much easier it is to clean. The battery on the cricket isn’t THAT much better, and the price difference is insane
Is that so.
Nothing on their site describes the material that one dabs off of.
There is only 4 choices of temps
The size of the dab they're using would completely overload the Cricket, the Cricket is incredible at economizing your material.
Also they say in the FAQ:
"What concentrates can you use with the Pivot?
A variety of substances and consistencies can be used with Puffco products, if they are not super runny, sappy or in liquid form. "
Uhhh.
Proper dabs do turn into liquid when they melt.

The Cricket has a Grade 9 Titanium tub (which is 'runny/sappy/liquid proof) that you vape from.
The Cricket has readout display, cap-off detection for pre-melting your dabs, with adjustable temperature.
The vapor path on the Cricket is glass.
The Cricket can make great clouds out of a tiny dab.
The Cricket can be dialed to whatever exact temperature you like, not just 4 options of color levels.

All in all, it's easy to see why the Cricket gets a higher price point.
It's all-metal housing and flat design lends itself friendly to pockets, too.

Here's the size of dab they show being used:

load.jpg

So, for me, the choice is obvious if you really love your dabs.
If you don't care to save dabs, get flavor from terps, and have a quality surface that NEVER needs replacing to vape off of, well, OK. Pivot then ?

If you read the thread, problems with tubs leaking, difficulty cleaning, and melting/degrading silicon under the titanium tub more than paint a picture of a product that should be MUCH higher quality for its insane price point. Pivot is just an example, but you could compare this device to the aeris to show another handheld vape device that out performs the cricket on the go, both in terms of vapor production and ease of cleaning.

None of those issues on my unit.
Can’t argue the price point, I paid the max when released, but I’m happy with my purchase.

I must say I have a love-hate relationship with my Cricket. I have three or four different portable concentrate devices as well as at least half a dozen non-portable concentrate devices. Like all of our devices there are good parts and there are not so good parts.

For me the Cricket good parts outweight the not so good parts. The cricket is the best constructed* most easily pocketable device and it provodes by far the most delicious taste. It's also by far the most economical with regard to the miniscule amounts you need to load to get a good hit. And with its DNA control, it has by far the best thermal characteristics of any concentrate device. The titanium screen comes up to temperature faster and goes back down to room temperature faster than any other device.

* Yes I know the cap design is not perfect.

The not so good parts for me are that I wish it weren't truly a one hitter. I wish I could load three hits worth before needing to reload. It's not that you can't fit three hits on the titanium screen, it's just that it's a really bad idea. It's easy to forget that once you're under the influence. Overloading the screen is the root cause of all the less than wonderful things about the Cricket. KEEPING THE CRICKET CLEAN IS THE PRIMARY DOWNSIDE FOR ME. And while I have the cleaning routine pretty well down, once the glass chimney gets clogged even a little the Cricket doesn't work as well and cleaning the chimney is a pain in the ass if you're not sitting at home, comfortable. Even then it's no joy. And there's absolutely no way to clean a clogged glass chimney in a stealth environment. (Then again the chimney only gets clogged quickly when you forget and put too big a load in too many times). For me this is the biggest downside. You need alcohol and specialized cleaning tools to really clean a clogged cricket glass chimney. Because it needs cleaning and you can't easily clean it in a stealth environment, there are a number of situations where the cricket is not a good choice for me.

I'm a big fan of divine tribe for devices to enjoy concentrates. I have almost everything they make. For portable stealthy use their Lightning Pen is trivially easy to clean and absolutely can take more than one hit worth, probably three. But the hits aren't particularly tasty and without a water pipe attachment (which certainly doesn't fit in a stealthy environment) they're very harsh. However keeping it clean in a stealthy environment is trivially easy.

tl;dr There are times that I bring the Cricket and there are times I bring the Lightning Pen or something else.

My 2¢

Yes.
Excellent post, @Haywood .
I'd like to point out tho, that even the old way of dabbing (torch and banger) is a 1-hit kind of thing.
As you pointed out, adding more than 1 hit will result in poorly tasting concentrates.
Did you know it's also 50% less effective after being heated to dab temps ?
Yep.
So, although DT devices 'can' vape more than 1 hit loads, they aren't recommended.
Even with the v5 or the fogger, I use 1 hit at a time.
So, that's not a deal-breaker for me with the Cricket.
Also, as you say, if you remember to draw lightly and not add too much, the chimeny won't clog for a good while.
Eventually all dab devices need some cleaning, because of residue from the vapor.
On the price point, I've heard that vapeospy sells them for $269. Check it out.
They come with warranty, too, from that site. Evolv honors those purchases for free repair or replacement.
Actually I just looked it up, they do indeed sell them for $269.00 ... (scroll down for on-site coupon code :) )

Yeah, the tiny glass chimney is so thin, it’s the only real complaint I have in terms of cleaning. But I adopted the technique recommended by @Haywood

I've only had my Cricket for a couple of days, and I have LOTS of thoughts, but I'm working all weekend and too busy to comment much yet. The cap is too loose but not terrible. The airflow needed to be fixed (too open). The cap on/off sensor gets confused occasionally.

I did discover this great way to clean the chimney glass...

Oral -B Superfloss. The link takes you to Amazon where you can get a pack of 50 of the non-mint flavored flosses for $5.

It works perfectly unless you've managed to completely clog up the glass tube. It will probably work then as well, it will just take a couple of them with fresh iso dunks (of the floss, not the mouthpiece). The floss is three parts. One end is hard plastic that's springy and maybe 36 gauge. The middle part of the floss is this circular mesh that gets thicker and thinner as you loosen and tighten your grip on the ends of the floss. The other end is just regular floss material.

You don't have to remove the chimney or glass from the cap. Just thread the springy end through the glass tube and hold both ends of the piece of floss and pull the circular mesh part back and forth in the glass tube. I soak the mesh in 99% Iso and it's fine (haven't tried ethanol so I don't know if the mesh material is OK with it). Scrubs the inside and makes the glass chimney sparkle like new.
