EVOLV Cricket

Other than fixing the poorly designed cap and magnet system, I'm not sure there's a whole lot they actually need to fix either in the hardware or the software...

(I've been playing with the scribe software on my Evolv DNA100 and it's really a wonderful thing. While the scribe software works great on the cricket, having the full color display and the multiple buttons on the DNA100 is a whole other animal.)

Looks like they still have parts... EScribe software download there too.

I know you can disable the cap detection feature in escribe as well. My cap has never seemed to exhibit that failure, works fine.. wonder if overloading and too much reclaim builds up and blocks the magnetic switch? If not and cap is acting weird try a hard reboot first and if no luck reflash the firmware - worth a shot.

So I did a deep clean and took out the tub and clean the inside of the silicone band. I resembled the unit and it won’t heat… anyone had this happen before?

Did you recalubrate after reassembly? Didnt have that issue when I reassembled mine but I did recalibrate before trying to heat it again.

What size allen key does the Cricket use? Unfortunately the used one I got didn't come with a key, and I'd like to check out beneath the gasket to see if needs any cleaning.
Not sure if you found the answer yet, but according to their website here, it's 3/32".

Does anyone know if Evolv will replace the black rubber cover for the tub? I’ve been noticing the rubber is kind of peeling off

How does the Cricket hold up nowadays? Been thinking of picking one up if I can find a 420 sale this year, would be nice to have a more configurable pocket rig.

It's a king for pocket stealth, flavor, and efficiency, and I use it at home sometimes too. I must warn though, when I bought mine about a year ago, it came packaged in packaging that did not keep the device secure and protected, and it arrived damaged. It was a huge hassle getting a replacement from Evolv, and the replacement came in the exact same packaging that failed in the exact same way. They shipped it in a display case in which the heavy stainless steel Cricket is held in place by a flimsy paper strap that gets ripped when it's thrown around in shipping, and then the Cricket can come loose and it will be bouncing around in the unpadded display case. Luckily the replacement Cricket somehow stayed in place even though the strap ripped, and was not noticeably damaged. I've seen at least one other person say theirs came in the same packaging that also failed. I can't really recommend paying the price for one of these when they're shipping them that carelessly. I hope they've changed that.

Is the battery still holding up well? How harsh is the vapour? So far I have only really tried the Proxy for concentrates and it’s a little rough without water for me.

Oh that’s not great, at least they replaced it! Good to know, will have to see if any of the headshops nearby have it in stock.

Yeah my battery is still perfectly fine, I haven't been using it super heavily though. I don't find it to be significantly harsher than the other ways I vape oil, but I'm also the type of person who pretty much likes to hit everything with as dry and short a vapor path as possible. It can have a bit of a terp tickle sometimes for me, which I personally don't consider "harsh". I haven't tried any of the Puffco stuff. My 2 other most used concentrate setups right now are a SiC enail and a Dynacoil. I would say the Cricket is probably slightly harsher than a dab off of the enail or a banger, and a decent bit smoother than the Dynacoil for me.

Ah, that does help, thank you! I used the dynacoil quite a bit when the proxy was too harsh for me since it really required me to slow my draw down.

A lot is dependant on your use case. This puppy can coconut milk a hydrotube in less than 2 seconds. Using native, I find it harsher over 480ish and like to run through a dry hydrotube for cooling. Concentrate type plays a roll as well, some are just harsher than others. Temp stepping with smaller inhales helps a lot and allows I can go to 515f comfortably. I do find it a bit more harsh than some other portable options that have better airflow designs. If you like micro dabs though this is a REALLY nice versatile unit. If your not into micro-dabs keep looking

If you don't like a slow draw, the Cricket may not be the right choice. It works similarly to the MFLB with very low thermal mass, but with extra circuitry and software for precise control. Drawing too fast may cool the tub to below the temperature you want. More importantly, you may splatter the concentrate out of the tub, or even suck it right up the mouthpiece.
