Hello and good morning everyone! I hope all is well and you all are about to celebrate a safe and happy 4th! Wow the last couple days have been busy, did some work in the shop and took the boys swimming, didnt get to go fishing this week, going to try for next. My youngest had a blast at the pool, he is 6 and has been a little leery about jumping off the diving board and the big slide at the pool, I didnt know he had been, we get to the pool and the first thing he does of course is put on his arm bands and floaty round his waist, then gets right on the diving board, hes yelling dad dad watch me, I did and off he went! That was the start of many more to come. His brothers were doing various jumps and I was judging them, my youngest was taking part in the competition doing his best at a cannon ball with all the floating devices he had on, had to give him a 9 each time you know for effort. I dropped them off at their moms yesterday and was telling them how he jumped off the diving board and slide, she was like what??? I have been trying to get him to do that since May, she was a little surprised that he had done so, I told her I had no idea, he just did it like he had been always doing it and thats just how it was, guess since dad took him he had to show off, lol! I am glad he did! We really spent some good times the last couple days and was sad to see them go. Got the order to THC almost finished up and ready to go out Monday, my oldest did his latest vase from Red Oak, I really like the grain detail in this piece, he sad he didnt so much so, said he is more of a cedar kinda guy. I really dig the detail of it, very nice piece!

Going to start knocking out custom stuff next week, oh I have quite a bit to do, one piece at a time!

@WoodVillain Good morning my man, was nice rapping with you the other day! Really dig your Buckeye collection you have going so far, not sure if you can ever catch up with @NickDlow though, good idea getting his mind on other things, dont think it will last long though, he has so many irons in the fire, he has surprises yet to be seen! That BE band is the ticket, I really dig that and thank you for sending me the link info, I will be getting one made myself really soon, havent gotten with the guy just yet but am hoping I can send him some Bog Oak, that would be very nice! Good luck up your way and be safe this 4th!

@Aezhenn Hello my man, hope all is well and thanks for stopping by, I was so happy to hear your good news in the email, I hope all is well and wish you a wonderful summer!

@slatihe Got your PM bro, sorry for the delay, got back to you just shortly ago, I hope all is well and look to hear from you soon!

@SSVUN~YAH LOL, nice shot vapes and all! I really like your rigs and your setup is outstanding, thanks for the post and I hope you are doing well yourself!

If a wooden Mighty stem ever came around, I would certainly shell out for it fyi, it's totally not necessary, but I just love the wood :p

The taste is just, idk, authentic. It's hard to describe, but it feels really good vaping out of wood and I love the taste it imparts on my vapor. Plus it always looks great.

I just sent Ed an email about a few ideas for some new stems, I'm already getting the anticipation hype lol, I got a new wooden box mod coming in Monday, and I figured new wood stems would match perfectly :)

Happy 4th everyone!

Well well well, good afternoon everyone! Am super excited you all, I dropped a few hundred on a new stereo upgrade for my truck last week and all the gear came in yesterday except the dang harness for my amp, ahh no sweat, aint like I got time to do the install this week, am freaking beside myself to start it though. Got a Kenwood receiver, Kenwood Amp and Polk Speakers front and rear. Yeah I coulda got stupid and spent a bunch more, got a sub and all that but I didnt wanna put that big a dent in my wallet. I have never really had a quality system in any of my vehicles ever so this will be a dream come true! Got out a THC order yesterday, started blanking out custom pieces, getting them ready to bore and set out. Got quite the list of custom stuff and have quit taking custom orders for a week or two just so I can get a handle on the load now and then get started on the PIU order. Much to do much to do!

@SSVUN~YAH Yeah my man, well I had an ok 4th, spent some time in the shop and got some work done, got my boys a bunch of roman candles and bottle rockets, stopped by their moms and dropped them off, they had a blast! I hope you had great holiday yourself!

@HellsWindStaff I hope I can do you right on the Mighty one day soon, will give it a shot for sure! I feel ya on the wood, its just the natural way to do it for me, its like I am supposed too! Got your email brother and got you on my mind but in due time, Ill get you right also, in time!

Awesome! I went to a grill out and 20 team corn hole tournament at a friends house, took down first place and donated the winnings to the fireworks fund for next years party! After seeing that @Snappo wood blanks tailor made for your skills, I wish I kept it, lol.

That car audio install will be fun, I enjoy putting in amps and component speakers myself. Check out The Car Audio Cookbook if possible. I did my last install speakers, subs, amp and receiver. The DVD player on the receiver had me tapping into the steering column, so I took it to the pro's for that part.

What kind of amp kit are you working with? I like to go thick with those think 0-4 gauge, makes upgrades down the road so easy just add a 3-???? distributor some 4-8 gauge wire another fuse or more and you can add another amp or two. That's a whole new can of worms I'm sure your aware of though, then you start thinking deep cell batteries (a must) and high output alternator or the cheaper route a capacitor but those are really just band aids covering up electrical inadequacies. Have fun with that, I'm stoked for ya man!

Yeah, our course gets bitched at if we aren't precise and have to use capacitors.. But that's nowhere near car audio. Being spot on is nice cuz it makes you learn quicker. But it also ruins the shortcuts.. Thanks for reminding me summers almost over.

My Scottish Bog Oak stem came in the mail today and it looks great! Love the grain on this one. It adds some nice flavor to the mix as well!

It fits on the looser side of snug. Wish it was a little tighter but it's not terrible. It wiggles around but doesn't fall out. It will slowly come out if you hold it by the stem only. The glass stems won't. Once again, not terrible and not a deal breaker. I still think it's a great piece!

Here are some pics.

For the second time I have a wong stuck in a DO-20. The first time the glass got rescued but the wong was destroyed. I've been careful to lubricate the wong but it still got stuck. I'm just going to leave it for now as a dedicated Haze bubbler. How long can I do this before the wood disintegrates and contaminates the water.

Also- I've been dealing with multiple health issues- now I can hobble around but have surgery tomorrow on an unrelated issue. Just to let you know that my mailing is slower than a snail but the Daisy will get sent at some point.

Feel better and good luck.

If I were you, I'd sacrifice and smash that easily replaceable Chinese glass in a heartbeat if it meant saving an Ed's stem....

Hey Ed~ Have you ever successfully modified/removed one of your stems bushings and installed another?

I would LOVE to turn my Hammer stem into a Nano stem and it would get a ton more use. After over a year, I am certain I am not a Hammer fan but I don't part with it because I love the stem you made me.

I've got the exact stem for my Air and it too fits very loosely. I can hold it by the stem alone and the weight of the vaporizer on the other end is enough to slide right out. It wiggles around quite a bit too, like a rocking, side to side motion.

I'm not sure if that's why mine tends to get warmer than what others are reporting, but it's definitely loose fitting. Wonder if a tighter fit would result in cooler vapor and bigger clouds?

Good morning everyone, wow what a couple of days we have had the last few, worked on getting the custom blanks ready wednesday afternoon for a few, got the boys that evening and headed out Thursday morning for another apt. with my surgeon, she just wants to keep an eye on me to make sure all is healing well and I got a good report. We left there for the Barber motorsports museum, I had Googled it and knew a little about it, my surgeon was bragging about it and when we got there I can see why, wow! That place was amazing, has over 1500 motorcycles from the beginning of time to the present from all over the world, you name it he has it, Harleys, Triumph, Indians, BMW, all that and then some. Indy cars, Ferraris, gosh, 5 floors and a track outside. There was 12 porches racing and testing through the course and there is a bridge that goes across the track, the doors were blocked off to it but there was this guy out there, an employee walked by and I asked how could I get my boys out there, the guy tells me thats the owner and he is really cool you can ask him about it, so I waited a few minutes for him to walk back in the building and I began telling him how amazed I was and how much fun we were having seeing all the bikes, he told me that Guinness says that his museum is the largest in the world for motorcycle collection, say what! I mean the guy had everything, even had the Caterpillar bike OCC did, I told him I couldnt imagine the amount of money he spent to acquire all these bikes, hes like oh you dont wanna know, said it was easy back in the day but nowadays people want crazy amounts of cash for some of the pieces. He told me that he drove and raced for Porsche years ago for 10 years himself so I am figuring thats how he made the dough to do what he had done. So I told him we had driven a state over and that we had heard all about his museum and asked if it was anyway I could get my 3 boys out there on the bridge, he says the bridge is for members only but I'll get your boys out there! I was thinking wow what a guy, so the bridge has this 3' wide piece of glass maybe 30' long that is in the center of it, you can stand on it and watch the cars as they were hitting speeds of 150 through the straight away. I think we were all 4 just geeked out having a moment! So we did the museum that morning and wouldnt ya know when you get off the interstate to go to the museum right at the corner to the museum there was a Basspro World, ohh how bout that! So we spent the rest of the afternoon there. We have BP in MS but not a BP World, it was on, we did a gun safety seminar for kids, they know gun safety but aint nothing wrong with hearing it again, we looked at the fishing stuff, the hunting stuff, the camping stuff, atvs, boats, if it was there we had to have seen it or at least walked by it! What a day yall! So we got home later that evening, hung out watched a Shark week show and went to bed, I got up early early to get started turning custom stuff for a few hours. Woke the boys up bout 9am and took them fishing. Wasnt a great spot but not a bad one either, they all 3 caught a fish, my oldest landed a rather good sized 2lb large mouth bass and his brothers each caught a small crappie we had to throw back. Like I have said before, little or not a fish is a fish and they all three schooled me, I got skunked, didnt catch a thing! Guess it be's that way sometimes! We brought bass home I filleted him and off he went to the fryer, we had fresh fish nuggets and fries for lunch. I spent the rest of the afternoon with them watching more shark week on the DVR, oh yall know its the most wonderful week of the year!!! Check out the pics!

This was an awesome set of statues they had out front, I really liked these!

This is just a small small rack of bikes he had.

2015-07-09%2011.08.05_zpso3ub5zat.jpg

Bikes were everywhere, there was an elevator that took ya up with stacks of bikes on all 4 corners.

2015-07-09%2011.08.39_zpsxvkxfmus.jpg

Yall just dont know the amount of bikes this guy has, freaking everywhere! Oh and wouldnt you know he would have one made from wood!

Double post due to not being able to type more than 1000 characters, maybe the mods can change that to like 5K, I gotta do my best to answer and explain all I can!

Ok now I must tell you all I have gotten a new piece of tooling for my turning, its a beading tool, makes a neat little round bead on the wood. While I was doing some of the custom stuff I began using it. I did not use it on anyones custom stuff that sent me blanks via @Snappo I just hadnt used it long enough to feel comfortable trying it on pieces you all had purchased. I did however have some custom stuff that I had to do for some people that I was using my own wood for and had more if I happened to trash a piece. So hopefully tomorrow I will have alot of show and tell with the new detailing and technique I have learned, just depends on how much I get done today!

@SSVUN~YAH Watch out my man, I play corn hole at church with my kids, aint bad at it. We used to do alot of Horse shoes in the yard, really had a lot of fun doing that, drinking coldies in the hot sun throwing shoes, we did it up! Lol, cant wait for you to see these new skills bro, I really like the idea of what I will be able to do with the beading tool, will be interesting! I went with a small 4 channel Kenwood amp, like I said, I just wanted to upgrade my system was all, didnt want to break the bank or my wallet. I have the front and rear speakers installed, now just gotta do the receiver and amp next week. You gotta love Youtube, always great how to videos on there! I thin you are right though, I didnt get a sub but think I may before its over with, lol! You ever get this way, would sure like to see what you bumping, well leave the door open and get out the shoes, maybe throw a ringer or two!

@KidFated. Yeah dont that suck, summers almost over..... Oh but I have to be back in Bham one last time on the 30th, there is one more museum we havent been to yet and thats the childrens science museum filled full of fun on 3 stories, oh and the day after is the statewide wildlife expo!!! Thats right, hunting and fishing gear, the experts and tv show people from the outdoor channel, hand grabbing catfish for the kids, the retriever shows, archery for the boys, free game sausage, and OMG the deals! I spent so much money there last year, you cant but do so, everything is the latest and half the cost of retail, uhhh why not right?

@Muletrane Hello there, glad you got the piece and are using it, I like that you are enjoying it and thanks for the pics! Thing is with the fit, I got my Air with a glass stem at .562", I found SS tubing at .562", it costs quit a bit more than the solo SS due to the thinner wall and the precision its made with. I dont have to turn it down from a larger thicker piece. We tried turning it from a thicker piece but to get it to that OD the wall thickness is really thin and bends, warps, and crushes the tubing when turning down so thats not possible. The glass stems that come with the Air will vary being glass thats what they do, I havent seen a half dozen that were all the same OD. The SS bushings that I have are the best I can get or manufacture for this device. If you would like tighter you may try a solo stem but I dont recommend that. Some users have had success with them in their Air but most have not. I do hope that you enjoy using the stem more so after after more use and hope you will report back when you can with your findings after some time. I thank you again for stopping by and for posting up.

@FlyingLow My man, have I got a beauty for you, you said you wanted something special and special is what I found you, not even going to tell you what species it is, I have never turned this species, its a chunk I had gotten from one of my burl guys long time back, its a stunner in the blank itself and cant wait to see it turned. I have never seen anyone else with this species either, truly a rare rare piece my man, I hope I havent talked it up so much that I jinx it and it goes to crap on me! You know I have never done that, removed a bushing and retrofitted it for another style, hmm not sure how that would work and really dont feel good about doing so. Its kind like this, you dont ever wanna go behind me and have to tear apart or remove what I have built. Ill put some nails in it and sure enough run some screws in it! You will put in more time taking apart what I put together! It may be possible but in the end it may go to crap, thats all up to you bro! Thanks for stopping by my friend, I wish you well!

@little maggie Oh no, I hate to hear what has happened to your wong, that aint cool! I am glad to hear you are lubing it and I hope you arent leaving it in there for long periods of time. I dont recommend doing that. I would say use it a few times then pull it out, if left for a while the wood can absorb moisture and cause it to swell which is what I am figuring it has down. You may wanna put the piece in the freezer for a while and see if that will help or you might even heat it with a hair dryer to try and removed the collected moisture in the wong. Hang in there and I hope your surgery went well and you get back on your feet ASAP. I will have you in my thoughts and prayers!

@Deano I hope you read above about the bushing I wrote. As far as it being more snug I wouldnt think the vapor would be cooler, it may in fact make the vapor hotter being more restricted and holding the heat more so in the metal and through the stem. For clouds I just give it long steady slow consistent draws and that works for me. Like I said above if you want a more tighter fit you may wanna try a wooden solo but thats totally up to you. I hope all is well for you also and wish you a great weekend!

I am going to give hell today and hopefully have quite bit for show and tell tomorrow so keep an eye out! I wish you all a great day and weekend!

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too
Hey Ed. just thought I'd pass by and let you know how I'm getting on with your Lily stem.

First off, I love your work bud. It's a beauty.
I've never seen a small piece of wood crafted with such precision before. Hats off to you. You got skillz.
(do you have any 'making of' videos for wood noobs like myself?)

The stem fits great and changes the appearance of Lily quite a bit. @stickstones I think said it was 'Cat in the Hat' style but I personally think it's more a Gandalf the Grey, lord of the rings business.

The extra length not only adds style but cools the vapor nicely and I find the reduced sized end piece compresses the airflow and sort of injects vapor into my mouth for some nice big clouds.

The main reason I purchased your stem was because I hardly ever traveled with Lily for fear of breaking the original glass stem.

No such worries with your piece Ed. I have dropped it. But all it did was make a lovely sound as it bounced to a rest on the floor.

20150710_210105-1_zpswqiqsc26.jpg~original

Btw, I haven't sussed out how to hold the center piece in place when stored, but I think a small piece of silicone tube the correct diameter snapped on the end would do the trick.

EDIT
Loved your pics from the Barber motorsports museum. The bikes were awesome. I think I saw that wooden one on the Pawn Stars TV show a few seasons back.

Good morning you all, I am sorry to say there is no show and tell today! I have just been really overwhelmed with the new website build, custom orders, hanging with my kids, and all of my other responsibilities. I am giving it hell but last night I took a time out for me, my good friend was having a down home fish fry, he has been hitting the water hard the last few weeks and had caught a bunch of bass, crappie, and brim, had a bunch of of filets. He invited me over with some others and we just had a good time. Fresh caught fish, homemade hush puppies, baked beans, fries, fried onions, oh my what a time. I never get out alone, just havent done it, I get out with my kids, when I dont have them I work, but last night fun, was a me night and something I guess I needed. So anyhow, I will be back at it today and tomorrow doing my best to get custom stuff done up and out ASAP! I am really excited about show and tell so will do so very very soon! Its getting really freaking hot down here too and that sucks, my wood shop is 12'x24' and have a 12K BTU AC, its running nonstop, today its supposed to feel like 108, my shop temp inside is above 80, its the biggest unit I could put in the window and it just cant keep up, got a fan running doing the best it can, it is what it is and after all its that good ole MS. weather, humid and muggy, take your breathe away kinda heat!

@KidFated. Sounds like a good trip for yall bro, 30 crappie is a nice stringer! Yeah my man, I knew you would enjoy hearing that, I feel ya. You know what you need to email me or PM me some pics, the way I see it if you aint got pics, you didnt catch nothing! 30 crappie, uhhh wheres the pics at my man? Those bike were awesome, what a collection he had, a great time!

@HellsWindStaff Those statues were awesome, I would have loved to have had a smaller one to buy and take home but no such thing in the gift shop. Was really a fun time, hope you will hang in there with me on show and tell a little, Ill get there! This is what I recommend for cleaning -

First off for cleaning you would never ever submerge the stem in any liquid at all! To clean the inside of the stem I would get a cotton swab, soak it high proof alcohol and squeeze out the excess, then swab out the inside of the stem from the mouthpiece end. There is a clip installed just over the screen in the bushing. You will need something narrow and pointed to remove it like a pick of some sort. There is a tiny eyelet in either end of the clip that you can poke some sort of tool into and lift up the clip in a upward/backward motion. Once the clip has been removed you can use the same tool to lift out the screen.Once the inside has been swabbed out, the screen replaced, and the clip reseated over the screen, I would let it sit and dry completely. Once it’s dry you should be good to go.

This is @Snappo method for cleaning which is a great way also -

On another note: Here's a tip on how to really clean the inside of you custom Ed's wooden stems - take a paper towel and twist it into a tight rope, then feed it into the stem through the mouth-tip end while twisting & pushing it through ...keep twisting and you will route out any unwanted residual matter - works much better & more thoroughly than with Q-Tips. If you want an even cleaner extraction, use a very thin wash cloth or handkerchief and moisten with alcohol - use twist & route method above and have a fresh showroom-new Ed's TnT custom stem! And don't forget to use your Ed's Bomb Ass Butter to reinvigorate the wood;-)

Give it a try. On another note I am working on some new videos for the new website, a friend let me borrow a Gopro so I am going to do a cleaning/maintenance vid on how to do so for the Solo, Air, Nano, and all that within the next coming day or so, there ya another chore that has to happen, I really need an assistant or inturn! I will post those here also to help with anyone's questions.

@Philreal187 My man, thanks for stopping by and posting up with your advice, I appreciate ya! I hope all is well for ya and wish you a great day!

@h3rbalist Wow thanks for all the kind words bro, I am very grateful! I am super glad to hear that it is working well for you and is performing just the same! I am trying to make the shaft a little touch larger OD for storing but its tough, I am working in .001" and just taking a tad off can be a little more than I would like then the after all that work its trash. After some thought this morning about your post it came to mind, how about just adding a couple wraps of Teflon tape around that spot to give it that little extra to hold it for storage? Hmm seems like it would work, might if you have a piece you know plumbing thread tape would work just fine I believe. I am sorry I really dont have any turning videos except the one several pages back, of you can see how everything is going great the piece looks awesome and within a blink of the eye it went straight to hell and all my effort was trashed! Check it out a few pages back, was a heart breaker and had me cussing, damn I was pissed! Glad you like the pics, was a fun fun time for us all. Thanks for the post and the pics, most of all your words! I wish you well and all the best!

Thanks for the tips! Mine's far from dirty, I'm with you that the wood seems to soak up a lot of it. Was talking with a friend out west about visiting over the wintertime, was thinking of sending a stem out ahead of time but I didn't know how well I'd be able to clean it. Glad it sounds like I can make it good as new!

I do really like the wood soakin it up though, adds to the flavor :)

Holy Moley Mr. Ed!
I just got back in town and read this special post, what a treat!!!

I am sure I will LOVE it and am excited to hear everything is well! Go nuts, I got plenty of funds earmarked with your name on it;)

Regarding converting the Hammer stem to Nano, I am on the fence. I may just sell it to put towards new stems/vapes as I don't want to potentially mess up this beautiful stem... On the other hand, it is so badass I really don't want to let it go but I just don't dig the Hammer that much. Tough choice.

Keep on keepin' on Ed, love what you do!!!
