@jambandphan03 Thanks for stopping by and the kind words.

@Reflections I am seeing it not quite as wide, I used my parting tool to make the groove. I wanted it to be narrower and not quite so bold, I wanted it to be subtle and not so overwhelming. I have a smaller size turquoise coming that should look more consistent and will fill the groove more uniformly is what I am shooting for. Glad you like it though, that makes me feel good. We are packing stiff now for the trip, had to buy a new tent, couldnt find my old one. No sweat the new one is the shit!

@stickstones You have seen the 14mm water pipe adapter MF offers right? That one you have to hold the LB in place for it to work right? This one is hands free! Do you think I have a winner? I am glad you like the turquoise too!
You'll hate me now but probably thank me later...

The water adapter for the MFLB you're thinking of is the old one that they don't make/offer anymore. The new one is a GonG attached to wood with a whip extension, which gives it the benefit of being able to shake it while still hitting it so you can get bigger hits. If I had to pick one of the adapters, it would be the whip one every time. Just so much easier to use and get bigger hits uninterrupted. Then the other problem is that it should be horizontal to be most effective, instead of at an angle like most water tubes. The one I'm currently using has an 18mm male adapter and I put an 18mm female-female to use my GonG's. It would end up vertical and useless

And I'll have to disagree again with the band, that band is absolutely beautiful. It really is. How much thinner are you trying to go? I think half the size would look fantastic as well... by the way, could you do crushed opal in there?

Ugh, need to start saving money for these things now...

Edit: please don't get me wrong, your work is excellent as always, it's just that I think the MFLB adapter would only be useful in some situations kind of, and I think know I'm going to be checking this thread every few hours for a while now...

Good morning,

@Reflections I am thinking only half the width of the band would be just enough to see and still make an impression. Oh and I got a new air mattress too!

@KidFated. Thanks for stopping by bro, glad you dig it! Its so hard to show the beauty of the piece in a pic. That piece is so nice, I had a hard time not keeping it for myself. I am glad you like it. If you want one of those LB stems just let me know and I will turn another for ya, maybe even out of Cocobolo, I think I have a small piece that matches the Solo stem you have.

@$unnyblaq Thank you so much for the kind words, but I am no genius, as I have said before, my strategy in life is to show up early and hope to get lucky!

@Vitolo Thats what I want to hear my man! I knew you would put it through its paces. Beat the hell outa that thing, it should last forever!

@Snappo keep coming by, its only gonna get better! Thats my first attempt at inlay, my second, third and so on will be nicer than the last.

@stickstones Glad its on your mind, maybe you will let me do something for you once I get the hang of it.

@MileHighLife Its been a while since I used my LB and hadnt eve thought of how it worked when I made the stem. Maybe its not a good idea, no sweat, even if it dont work, it was fun making it. I will look into a 90 degree and see what I can come up with. I gotta try and figure out a 90 for the Extreme Q anyway. Got something for it in the works also. Hang in there with me!

@CarolKing Thanks for your post, I am glad you like it also.

@PPN congrats on your 500th post, I feel it must be a sign! I havent made that stem available yet at my site, still wanna perfect the technique and feel good about the piece before I start offering them. Pls hang in there with me though, I hope to have some for sale this time next week.

@Quetzalcoatl Thanks for your honesty bro, I would never hate ya for being honest! That is one of my flaws, I am too honest at times, I dont know when to keep my mouth shut sometimes when I should. I can handle the truth and thank you for giving it to me straight! It may not be the best idea I have ever had, its been a while since I used my LB and have forgotten how it performs I guess. It was still fun to make! Glad you dig the turquoise band, I think half the size is exactly what it needs too. I am sure I could do crushed opal, just need some is all, I am up for giving it a shot! Put some dough back and holla at me, I'd be happy to do something for ya.

@Seren Oh yes I am gonna make more, different species and maybe different gems. I am glad you like it, pls hang in there with me. I have so much I gotta do, I need to quit trying new stuff, the work keeps piling up!

Just wanted to reply to all the comments and posts, thank you all for your kind words and suggestions, I really appreciate all the enthusiasm, makes me wanna work harder and do more! Am about to pack up, gotta load the truck and hook up the boat. The boys are awake and asking what time we are leaving? I gotta get this train on track and get my ass in gear. We got some fun to be had!

I wish you all the best!

My nano stem is holding strong as well and it looks so nice.
@Vitolo that stem looks very nice. The pin was a great addition to solve the seperation issue. Glad that it is working well for. Mine has not giving me any more trouble since I used your fix. Thank you again.

@KidFated. I like that stem it look very nice. I really like the contrast in that piece. There is even a k in the grain at the top, dosen't get better than that.

@Ed's TnT I like the torquoise it is exciting to see what you will come up with. Nicely done. I will be ordering some ascent stems shortly.

Awww....... crap.

Seriously, Ed? You are gonna make it even fucking harder for me to decide on a stem?
My hubby says you are venturing from "utility" to "jewelry" quality, and that's gonna be my downfall.

That turquoise is amazing. Opal would be, too. Think black Opal embedded in your Black woods... oh yeah.

*pssst* He'll have a Hammer stem when he gets home to play with. Everyone, give him ideas for that one... I'm still not visualizing all the options...

Hello and good morning everyone, I hope all is well out there! We had an awesome time camping, we spent a couple of nights on a sand bar at the local river. The water was really high though and the current was tough, we were thinking that it may have been to high and all the sand bars would have been underwater, but we got lucky and the one called Flag Island was large enough that it still had room for the kids to play in the sand and enough room for a bunch of tents. It was about 20 of us there counting about 8 kids, 3 were mine, we had 7 tents, 5 boats, and a wave runner. The day time temps were in the low 80's and high 40's at night. Not so hot that you had to be in the water all day and not so cold that a couple of warm blankets would get ya right. The new tent was the shit! Even got a new air mattress to go along with it. Had an old air mattress also, so I had two in the tent with plenty of room to move around in there. As soon as the boats made it to the sand my boys were in the water so freaking quick. Oh that water was cold too, I got about knee deep a few times and that was about it. My kids on the other hand when their eyes opened in the mornings that first words outa their mouths were, "I wanna go swimming!" and thats what they did all day long! My good friend brought along a couple of coleman stoves and a couple charcoal grills. We had a feast every meal, wild deer, wild hog, chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs and bacon, eggs, sausage, and biscuits for breakfast. I really enjoyed the time with my boys and a time out from all the wood work I had been doing. It was a good to see with old friends and meet new ones. My buddy even let my boys drive his pontoon boat up the river, my 5 year old was so happy, he was the man! It was 87 the day we left, boy did we get some sun, we are all feeling a little burnt somewhat and somewhere.

Hey, but all good things must come to an end, got home and ran right into some manufacturing problems. Nothing good about that for sure, have been on the phone here and there looking for machinery, looking into contract work, beating every bush trying to fix the problems. Thats what I have been doing most of the morning already, and its killing me, I have very little patients, I am learning patients the older I get but I still want it now! I am not one to wait ad hate having to do so. I like to fix whats broke as soon as I find it. I got my head up and am staying positive, its gonna work itself out!

@KidFated. Just holla at me when your ready bro, I will get you fixed up, just have to fit you in!

@1_gr8_underdog Glad you like my work, it was fun to make and gets me excited to do more of it soon. I will pick you out a sweet Ascent Stem Set when youre ready, just let me know its you.

@Enchantre I am sorry I am making it hard for ya, just trying new things is all. Inlay is really neat and there are so many different things you can do, its alota fun! Got the Hammer Stem and have ordered parts for it, should be here tomorrow. I need to talk with you about the unit though, I have sent ya a PM, holla at me when you can! I am anxious to make one of these, you know I like doing something a little different! Thanks for sending it to me, I really appreciate your cooperation.

@Ed's TnT 18mm black Wong. This thing is a real beauty. Much higher level of craftsmanship than I expected. It fits so nice and snug in the Solo's heating chamber, then as the unit heats up it loosens up juuuust a bit. It fits perfect in all of my 18mm pieces and matches REALLY well with my silver Solo. Very happy with the looks and functionality of this piece. Thanks again Ed. Definitely be back for a regular wood stem for traveling. Highly recommended people!!

Hey Ed,

great to see your progress, Pieces look stunning!

Thanks for sharing your personal stories, this really makes me feel I get wood pieces from a family member :)

I'd like to jump in on that Enano WonG boat, maybe with a tourquise band on it even ? :D
18mm preffered, I'm sure you'll post here once they are ready to be made, no stress, just to show I'm intrested ;)

Just a quick tip: Put a very light coat of an anti-joint-lock wax on the wong, just in case - same as any other glass gong. Chap Stick works well too. It'll keep your beautiful wood wong fresh and new all the time! Cheers!

@Ed's TnT i would really like you to do a tube to store a solo WonG with 2 chambers one on each end one for the WonG and one to store a 1g or 2g

I really think this would sell well I use A tube like the ones planetvape sell like this
image_zps62c431c3.jpg

I works really well but the herb gets stuck in the tube and it bugs me
The tube should be really simple and would be real sick
Like a lil dug out for the solo
I know you done some dugout befor and the was a pain to do a tube with a cap on each end shold not be to hard no?

Good idea! I use chapstick my 18-14 glass reducer and works well. With the wood one I left the down stem or whatever a little wet and it worked well as lubrication, but not sure I would keep doing that...water on wood can't be good...not sure how @Ed's TnT or if he does a seal on it...

my experience with using a wood gong is, don't let vapor oils build up on the glass joint or wood. I had a non-Ed's wong get stuck once, and had to heat it with a hair drier to get unstuck after much panic when it wouldn't budge, just from vapor residue build up that collected on the wong over use. Just my :2c: keep that wong and joint clean. The joint wax/lube might just do the job just fine and will keep the wood conditioned.

Hello and good afternoon everyone, pls forgive me for my absence the last couple days or so, I am sure you all know I spend the end of the week in the shop working wood and this week is not unlike any other, I have been giving it hell and working on new stuff and custom orders. All is good though, the family is healthy and my boys cant wait for summer break, damn some school! Oh and my wife is ready for her summer break too being a teacher now, she has the whole summer off. Seems like they just dont last as long as they used to. Well I am running into some manufacturing issues with my metal lathe/mill combo, the damn thing is not even a year old and is already getting slack or play in it, whatever you wanna call it. The thing wont turn true, it may turn down two pieces fine but the next one or so could be off a little here and there and that aint cool. Its still under warranty which is good but I gotta crate and pallet the damn thing up and ship it back to have it repaired, the freaking thing weighs 450lbs.! SS is some super hard shit and has really put a hurting on my machine, I am thinking about upgrading to a larger model, a more precise dedicated machine that will handle what I working that and a stand alone mill. Thing is if I do go that route then I gotta build another shop and pour a slab and all that. The larger lathe weighs 3 times as much and you can go putting that on a wood floor and a wood bench. So am looking at about $7,500 for an initial investment. I have found someone locally that is gonna do the bushings for me in the meantime while I am down, the guy is giving me a hellova price. I have called all over the state and even called outa state looking for someone to handle the work and here this guy is about 15 minutes away with a hella shop, CNC's and metal working machinery that says thats no sweat he can handle it. Hmmmmm may work out that he can do all my metal work and I may not have to spend a freaking arm and leg. Time will tell yall!

@Herr_Dampf I do think we need to talk bro, pls check below and holla at me!

@Reflections Thanks for the welcome back, camping was the shit, we had an awesome time, the wife backed out on us at the last minute, shes not much of an outdoors kinda person, the boys never once asked for their mom, I know they had a blast! Yeah problems are just short term, they always work out one way or another, sometimes they are opportunities to open new doors and hopefully this is one of them!

@equatorgringo Thanks for stopping by with the kind words and pics bro! I really appreciate them. The 18mm wong looks great with your silver solo, I am glad you are digging it and hope you do for a while to come. Hmm water on wood is never good bro, but the Blackwood is super dense and I would think it would be less susceptible to water than lets say Oak. If it gets wet I would try to remove it from the water and dry it off quickly. I use Bomb Ass Butter to treat all my pieces, this is just a simple beeswax/mineral oil mixture that penetrates the wood and adds a little luster to it, I would say that it really prevents any water from getting into the wood though. Just be careful with the piece and try not to saturate it is all. I am sure with a little care it will be fine.

@vakedcow I appreciate you stopping by also, its been a while I am sure all is well, its good to hear from you! I thank you for the kind words, I share my stories here cause I feel like we are all family, FC is a great community where I have come to know many great people in different ways, some I have really come to rely on for advice and help when I need it. Others here have reached out to me to with help when I never even asked for it! I say it all the time, I am blessed to be a part of FC and look forward to getting to meet and know everyone here I come in contact with! As far as a 18mm Nano wong, thats probably gonna be a custom piece now, I have so much going on that I havent really had time to think about adding them to be a readily available product. Shoot me a PM or am email and lets talk about it, I can fit you in and get something made up for ya in the next week or two. Thanks again for stopping by!

@CarolKing Hello and thank you for stopping by, I appreciate the kind words and I have something special for ya. You told me to kinda do what I was feeling for the wong and I made this for ya!

One of em is yours, the other is going to one of the founders of 420 Media to help me spread to word, she is very optimistic about my work and deals with brand recognition.

@Snappo Thanks for stopping by with that tip, thats good one and appreciate your input!

@as I think I could probably do a storage tube for ya, are the caps push on or threaded? Threaded will be a problem as I have not done any threading of wood yet. I know it can be done, I have even looked into it once or twice just to get an idea but am a long way away from making it happen. If its just push on caps that hold tight then I dont see any issues with that. Could spin you one right up! Lets talk more about it.

@jambandphan03 Thanks for your 2cents, they are always valued here! You are right, keep that wong and joint clean and you wont have any problems. A little maintenance and care goes a long way to the longevity of these pieces.

I have just made some more BAB and its back in stock at my shopping cart if anyone is interested, it not only treats the wood but would also add a little lubrication if needed.

Alright now to what I have been doing the last couple of days, pics are the fun part!

I have made some Nano stems in 3 different species for the moment. They are 4" in length and just under a 1/2" OD, the bowl depth is a 1/2", it also has the SS pin installed through the bushing and into the wood to eliminate any separation from the high heat. These will be added to my website tomorrow and will be available for purchase then also. Pls hang in there with me just a little longer.

@Enchantre & @Herr_Dampf Hope this is what you have been waiting on, I made this one from Cocobolo, the pic really doesnt capture all the colors but it does give you something to look at. Pls tell me what you think! It has a 1/2" OD SS bushing on it that has been flared to fit the Hammer. As you know all I had to go on was the stem you sent Enchantre. The bowl is quite a bit larger than the glass, I feel pretty certain that this piece will fit and perform well, and who doesnt like a larger bowl! It is 4" in length, has the SS pin installed and is easy to handle. I hope you like it and look forward to your thoughts!

I hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to everyones thoughts and feedback! Pls if you'd like to do something a little custom just let me know and lets talk about it, I may or may not have the time but will sure give it some thought and do my best to make it happen. I wish you all a great weekend and to all the mothers, I wish you all the best on your day and thank you for all you do for your children and your families, your hugs and kisses mean the most, thank you!

Wood nails seem much more reasonable than glass nails ;)
Looks absolut lovely. If Enchantre doesn't want it, I'd happily give it a good home. :D
Otherwise, I'd rather take on in Blackwood if that's possible.
We also need to talk about the Solo WonG's, the one you made for equatorgringo is even better than the other design. It's a bit late and I'm a bit tired, will send you a PM tomorrow.
