Driving behind speeding drivers to avoid ticket...does it work?

I agree @smokum, I stopped speeding after my injury and well now that I am mmj have to be more careful as I can go to jail even if I have not have had any for a month. Dumb ass state I live in. I just want to know where those mother fuckers are as there are always a lot of cops around here between state, sheriff, city, and border patrol tis way to much for me. A lot of drug dogs as well but I don't even think those cars have radar so I would be fucked anyhow. I now one day I had my back quarter panels open and vape flying out the window when I say the k-9 unit ugh.

I've got a 14 y/o whistler detector that also has early safety warning system and a voice memo recorder. Its detection technology was quickly becoming obsolete in california, but in my current state not only is the tech still applicable, but the additional features keep it legal to use. It has saved me many tickets over the years, but now I don't drive as fast as I used to anyways so I don't usually turn it on anymore.

edit: as far as the op goes, low hanging fruit always gets picked off first.

I usually driver over the speed limit on the highway (unless I have bud) and I'm not sure if my logic is flawed that driving 500 feet behind another speeding car(s) will reduce the probability of getting a speeding ticket, because the cars in front of you will be pulled over first.

Is that bull shit or not?
I find it the opposite and see those trailing behind the original speeder pulled over. If the officer is not ready to hit it as the initial speeder passes, by the time he jumps on it you just may be the lucky trailing car that catches his attention.

And if your on a motorcycle, all bets are off! At least on the West Coast, it seems regardless of what the cagers (those in cars) are doing, bikers get all the attention!

At one point in my life many years ago, I had three relatives that were cops, a city, a county and a state cop and from what they had said, it all depends on the cop and the situation.

If a group of cars are all speeding but not by over 10 to 15 miles over the speed limit, no one would likely get pulled over but if they were going to pull someone over, it would depend on which car was quickest to get to because the simple fact of pulling anyone of the cars over would cause the other speeding cars to slow down. Take that with a grain of salt though as that was some years ago and may not be relevant now.

For what it's worth, the only speeding ticket I've ever gotten was doing 25 in a 15 mph zone on New Smyrna Beach in Florida, on a motorcycle and although I enjoy driving and so the trip to wherever I am going is as much of the expected enjoyment at the destination, there was once when I've was doing over 100 mph on a trip to Canada and over 180 mph many times on expressways in Japan at 2 or 3 in the morning when there is no one else on the road and more importantly, no cops.

Generally though, I'm rarely if ever in a big hurry to get to wherever I am going even though the cars I've owned could outrun anything fielded by any police department. One can outrun other cars but one can't outrun radio waves. ;-)

None of my tickets have been for 5-10 over. I got lit up once hitting a freeway entrance and topped at 85, but I slowed down and he wagged a finger at me as he cruised by. Other tickets have been 18 and 23 over though I was likely closer to 28 over. Did school for both and now I don't like speeding. That's a lot of weed and vapes I could have bought :(

... and now I don't like speeding. ...

I'm pretty much the same way now. It's not that I don't enjoy going fast but definitely not as much as I used to.

About the only time I put the spurs to the horses since I moved to the US is when my car needs an "Italian Tuneup", which is basically running close to red-line revs under load, parked and not in gear doesn't cut it, to clear out the carbon that builds up from running a high performance engine at city speeds for too long.

Usually the way to run such a "tuneup" is to be running at highway speeds and then drop it into a lower gear but my car will do 85 in first and still not be anywhere near red-line.

Fortunately I only need to do that about once a month or so and the place I found best to do it, a LOOOONG straight steep up-hill run is way out in the boonies.

I know that was kinda sorta off topic but to bring it back on topic, it's not worth speeding unless one knows one can get away with it. :brow:

DanAndroid,
I always noticed it is the people in the middle of the pack that do not get pulled over. If you are the first or last you are more likely to get pulled over especially on a smaller highway or streets. It is easier for the cop to pull over the last person versus going through traffic to catch up to the person in front. But at the sametime it all depends on the cop, if he wants to get you he will get you. Too bad we do not have flying cars yet.
