Do you like coffee?

It can be a bitch to roast a mix like that, as the beans are different sizes.
I think I found a happy medium

Ohhh........I was thinking' that you'd roast each kind of bean separately and then mix them together. Yeah I could see that roasting them all together at once could be a bit of bitch.

My little roaster is designed to work with a specific volume of green beans, no more no less. I usually roast just one kind at a time (have combined two types before for kicks) but I had a few "scraps" laying around.

Just found this thread. I love coffee! I have been roasting beans since 06, in my Garage is a 1kg commercial Diedrich drum roaster. In the kitchen is two Baratza burr grinders ( one for espresso and the other for all other brews), an Alex Duetto espresso machine, a Behmor Brazen drip brewer (full water temp control from 191f to 208f), assorted moka pots, pour overs, and French presses. In the basement is 200lbs of green coffee beans. My biggest problem is I can not just go out and have a coffee but I can make some mean cups at home.

Didn't see anybody mention cold brewing coffee. This is my favorite method for making iced coffee and ice coffee cubes but the concentrate can also be thinned with water and heated in a microwave for a super quick hot cup.

Man me too.impressive selection you have there.i tried lots of different styles along the way.
I settled on Turkish coffee and found an automatic version which I love.

I'm really into full flavour coffee without the bitterness.

This is what I use every morning.this machine heats below boiling, even shakes the grounds just before you serve.needs a little maintenance like temp sensor screen nees a clean once in a while.apart from that it's throw your grinds in add alkaline water to the cup slide it in to the blue lit area and press the button.i just filter it at the end into a coffee strainer basket add honey, no milk and sip or let it cool some and slam it POW,you're good.it has won awards cebit I think..I imported mine from turkey cost about $100 I think.
I just don't like espresso so much now.the submersed grinds really release full bodied flavour during the brewing process.this unit beeps after two minutes or so to let you know coffee is ready.so easy.ive had mine maybe 8 months.this is the one person machine.they do a double version too for couples.
Vaping and coffee are excellent together.i buy beans usually and grind.

What was the Ass Fee for those beans? Hopefully nothing that made you uncomfortable ;)

That looks really snazzy. I love coffee and drink usually just crap preground if I'm lucky I get whole beans from the city when I'm down that way, sometimes some Starbucks if I'm feeling like spending a bit more. I just drink so much that standard Maxwell House is just the most cost effective, I wish I could buy some better stuff more often. Maybe I can now that my VAS ha subsided a bit :)

So glad I found this thread! Huge coffee addict/nerd right here. Currently use a CuisinArt w/ Ground coffee but want to get a press and grind my own beans. Looking into the aeropress as it seems to be a good one.

LOVE mah AeroPress. Been using it for years. Great way to brew coffee one or two cups at a time, but if you consistently want to brew multiple cups at the same time, there are better options.

I typically make enough coffee for two people(two cups each) so if there are high quality options for multiple cup uses I would probably go that route. Me and my roommate are fiends for the bean

Oh, and I also want to get into milk frothing and espresso making. Only ever brewed regular drip coffee.

Haha ass coffee reminds me of this stuff which is available throughout asia..cant say im a fan though:o:lol:

My beko is still going strong.from start to finish its a 3 minute exercise like most good things:D

I add two scoops of organic medium to fine grind.....i was using fine grind initially but medium works just as well and doesnt hassle my electric grinder as much

wanted to mention the other little thing ive added to my place since is the ultrastream filter....
well,we want good coffee but we use water from our taps which contains allsorts of nasties & pharmas etc.,its a no brainer...I looked at reverse osmosis initially but they remove everything from water including the good minerals ...so I looked around for a better alternative for making my drinks and so far like the UStream.it removes nasties and adds minerals and also alkalises.alkaline water may prevent cancers.its the sweetest water.it removes chlorine and 90% of fluoride..i drink a big tumbler of the stuff just before bed so it benefits healing and regeneration as we heal and reprogram when we sleep.

back to coffee:p....so i add water with grinds to the cup, place it into the window of the beko, press the button and the beko does the rest.i strain the result through a small stainless french press and pour over a squirt of manuka honey into a glass.after this stuff espresso tastes like swamp water.

good thing about it is i can tackle other morning tasks while its brewing and it usually comes with me in the truck down the road.

it must be coming up to a year now since i got it and I use it every day.
apart from cleaning the sensor lens on occasion its a tank for $100 or thereabouts.

Coffee is a drug i like....not a great drug,there are better.
If i go without coffee for a day i get a headache..go figure...so i dont:p..im about to do some now.

edit: i would love to try growing and roasting coffee sometime.sounds like fun.
as they say..have a nice day.:)

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Gladly tell you my take on coffee. I order 5lbs that is freshly city roasted and shipped to my house. And I'm surrounded by local coffee roasters and fair trade. If that tells you anything. Plus best price per pound for 'gourmet' quality. I use a mill grinder to break it so it a flinty consistency and ready for a french press.
I guess you are actually supposed to allow the beans time to expel gas after roasting. But my grounds float and cake up and crust over the water line, absorb water, then collapse under their won weight. Here's one method to extract more of the oils.

And I nominate this^ for the coffee thread :haw:
Thanks. A coffee thread at FC!I'll put a strong pot on and give it a read later.:brow: Good stuff.
That is the backstory why I'm here. Not an expert or Barista, just know what I like and a small amount of the science.

I grind the beans just before I press. Get to smell it just before I brew it. Compost the grounds, but offer it to the backyard growers.

"The way you smell in the morning.

Your dark skin.

That moment when your warm touch greets my lips.

The way you make me feel inside.

How you're always able to handle all of my white cream.

You keep my head level.
You complete my shattered soul.
I love you."

So over the last few years I have switched from being a tea only drinker, to a coffee and tea fan.

my palate isn't defined as it is towards the special herb lol, but I do enjoy a nice cup of coffee.

now I had a 30 dollar Black and decker 12 cup maker and to be honest it doesn't really make good coffee. a couple reasons. I am the only one in my house who drinks coffee, so I only make 4-6 cups in a go. it's never hot enough, and it just doesn't really taste all that great. so then my gf bought a tassimo, and it makes much better coffee. but still it's a little weak, while it is warmer...

so then on reddit the other day I was reading about great life changing devices that cost less than 100 bucks.

a french press was brought up. and yes I thought to myself a good idea. my sister who is a coffee nerd swears by it when she is home visiting my folks... they have a fancy machine at home i think...

so anyways I will get to the point of this thread. (start reading here if you are thinking tldr)

so to the french press posting a lot of replies came to say, FP is good but Aeropress is better.

so I looked into this more... it's a little 4 shot piston coffee maker!

you make your strong coffee and then do 1 of 2 things.

1. you filter your 2 oz coffee and then top up if you want a more normal drink.

or

2. you just fill it up to the 4 shot level (i have taken to liking this so far... but i've only had it a day.)

this thing is pretty kickass! I get coffee shop quality coffee in my own house for 35 bucks!

check it out!

I got mine here: http://www.aeropress.ca/

some reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Aerobie-AeroP...UTF8&qid=1374687722&sr=8-1&keywords=aeropress

and a vid of it in use.

i don't profit from telling you guys this, just wanted to share! it seems worth it to me!

I use my Aeropress every day and I love it now every bit as much as I did when I bought it many years ago.

I like good coffee. Equal Exchange French Roast is my favorite.
But it's not good out of all coffee makers. I had a 12 cup Mr. Coffee version that brewed slowly. Not painfully slowly, but it didn't brew as if speed was the most important factor in making coffee.
When that went down, I picked up a different maker, not realizing what an important role the maker plays in the process. I was very disappointed. Knowing what good coffee is and not being able to make it was hard to deal with. So many makers prioritize quick brewing time. So I went and found another of my old maker at a local hardware store. That broke eventually, I tried another maker, but same story so I recently picked up my third of the maker I like. It's not a new model and someday I'll be out of luck.

I'm going to give this aeropress thing a try. But why does he add water after pressing in that video? Why not just put the correct amount of water before pressing??

Lots of different ways to use the Aeropress. Experiment. It's one of the things that makes this coffee maker so much fun to use. Check out the link below along with all the associated links:

He's making an americano, which is espresso with hot water added for a fancy cup of coffee. This is the main selling point of the aeropress, that it can get to espresso-pump pressure by hand.

Same here.....

The only downside is that it requires quite a bit of coffee per cup.

Huh, how so?

Yeah, I use mine inverted with a metal disk filter. The inversion method allows me to steep the coffee for two minutes before filtering out the grinds. Yum. :)

I just find that I use more coffee per cup with the Aeropress than any other method that I have used and I've used many.

I go back and forth between inverted and non-inverted, between paper filters and the metal disk. For me, it's kinda like going through vaporizer rotations.
