Crafty appears to charge fully drains to one bar after being on for a minute

Hello!
First post here. I searched as well as I know how and couldn't find a similar problem on the forums here or elsewhere; not that there is much elsewhere.

I've had a Crafty for several years now. Last weekend it started to experience issues retaining a full charge. I got the battery replaced and everything seemed to be working fine. Charged it all the way up and then turned it on. Before it got to 80c it said it blinked blue lights and the notice on my phone popped up saying my battery needs charging. I tried doing a hard reset (10 second hold on the on button). I tried re-charging it again. No luck. Anyone else had this issue? Like everyone else I love my Crafty and don't want to buy a new one or another vape. Thanks in advance.

Did you just replace the battery? First use after replacing?

Edit: To clarify, when you got the charge notice it was the first use? Or second? But after initial charge after battery install?

This was my first attempt at using it after the battery was replaced. Though nothing has changed other than having a brand new battery in there. So I charged it up a second time and experienced the same thing.

The issue I have now with the new battery is identical to the issue I had before it was swapped for the new battery. The battery is at zero or one bar and then I charge it all the way up and then when I turn it on after 30-60 seconds I get a low battery notice and it turns off. Then the power bar is back to zero or one.

Sounds like you have a dead/defective battery.

I would suggest you try this: turn on the vape and run that mf'er until the battery is completely drained to the minium where it will not even start up.

Plug in the vape and charge it for a full 24 hours (way past the charge full indicator).

Give it a go, if you've got the same issue, then my guess is whoever replaced the batteries didn't test them or used very old stock

I was hoping someone had this exact problem and knew the fix, "Oh yeah... press the button 12 times as you sing Happy Birthday and that resets that capacity sensor" or something like that.

Have you tried charging the battery in an external charger first (the new one)?

I had a similar experience when replacing a fully charged battery with a new non-charged battery. The Crafty misread the charge capacity on the new battery and I had a similar experience as you describe. Leaving Crafty with no battery for a while (hours) and holding power button to ensure discharge and charging battery externally fully the 1st time resolved this. That being said, it doesn't sound like you're experiencing the same isssue.

Ok, so if the situation was happening on the old battery, and it's happening with a new battery. It sounds to me like there's a short somewhere inside the vape on the control board.

In all likelyhood, this issue is beyond your repair and requires S&B Service

It's hard to judge whether the crafty actually has a reliability issues because I have no data on how many cases there are. The feel on the interwebz is that battery related issues with the crafty seem to be quite common. My volcano is great for at home. The crafty is the best portable vape I've ever used. Are there any that are better for dry materials?

You'd cycle your batteries about half as much give there are twice as many batteries so I imagine it would last about twice as long. Have I experienced the best that is out there? I wonder sometimes. I'm kind of leaning towards getting a Plenty despite it not being truly portable.

I am not an owner but from what I understand the Mighty has a reputation for being much more reliable. I don't know about exactly the same but I know I hear many people give up on their Crafty and are very happy they switched to the Mighty
Mighty is generally considered a top of the line portable. Many people are happy with the Plenty but I don't think as happy as Mighty owners. Plenty seems to have many idosyncrasies

I love both my Mighty and my Crafty (the few times I've used a Plenty I did not enjoy it. I had one for a few days a few years back)

I think the Mighty seems to have a little better heat recovery, which impacts it's performance positively a little; both are amazing, but the Mighty might have a little more kick. (that and like you said, more sessions)

For an out of warranty repair from Storz & Bickel might not be too unreasonable (might be the same cost as a battery replacement and would include one)

Also, Storz & Bickel may offer you an "upgrade" or discount on a Mighty for your broken Crafty (although I think the Crafty has merit too ... love the size and it's a great vape!)

The only other portable that compares for me, to date, is the Grasshopper. (and you think the Crafty has reliability issues! )

Hi! Did you ever get to the bottom of this? My Crafty's up to similar shenanagans (on 105 hours) and I'm wondering whether it's worth getting a new battery or accepting that it's time to move on

Battery’s dead most likely as in end of its life. I’m sure vaporizers Aran just like every other electronic especially if u charge it non stop it will kill the shelf life of the battery. Sounds like a battery issue though. I actually hope amazon will start to carry more vaporizers then just the cfx and some no name because that dirt cheap warranty could save you a ton in the long run. No questions asked exchange old for new or st least from my experience, and if u wanted to it might not be right but if they improve the device it new model come soon out u basically get a free upgrade. Amazon’s insurance is almost as broken or amazing as bestbuys geek squad in favor of the consumer.

Actually, unlike older battery technology which had a "memory effect" causing the degradation of the maximum capacity and requiring users to almost fully drain the battery before recharging, these new Lithium batteries actually work better when recharged constantly.

The battery lifespan is actually improved by not allowing the battery to drain to very low voltages (say 3.2volts or lower) heck anything below 3volts would permanently damage these types of batteries.

Yeah, don't count on it. Amazon has a pretty large no-tobacco policy in their terms/conditions of resale. Any and all Amazon vendors caught selling these items risks the immediate suspension and removal from the site. This is a major reason why myself and others don't even bother listing on Amazon because we know we'll be taken down in less than a year (which is what happens to all these vendors on Amazon - they get de-listed and then create a new shady account with alternative credentials to get back onto the platform).

My thoughts are the heater has a short circuit.
Don’t know if it is a viable repair.

Hi guys, @JCat and @simpleCraftyCase - I just did a new battery replacement and seem to be in the same boat. Somehow the new battery holds even less charge than the old one, so I'm not even able to get the single bowl from it that I could with the old one. Did you ever figure out a workaround?

Somehow jiggling with the wires going from the heating chamber to the circuit board can sometimes help the thing turn on. But even with full charge, it starts turning off by 150C.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Incidentally, the crafty seems to be charging much quicker as well for some reason. Like, it's done within 40 minutes, but doesn't seem to last. I also tried the 10-sec factory reset which happened but didn't seem to change much.
