Thanks a lot guys, i appreciate it. yeah Opeth has been an undeniably huge influence on me and my vocalist/bassist. I've seen them 5x in concert and I'm hoping to at least quadruple that before i die, their performances have, thus far, been 100% flawless. Mikael kerfeldt is a metal god!

Ha! i just checked out this thread, and I thought steiner was the only metalhead here on FC. I have also been into metal for a number of years, I've seen Opeth 3 times myself(did you see their 20 yr anniversary shows in may? they were spectacular ) Recently I've been listening to a lot of newer metal along with newer post rock releases.

As of today though I decided to pull out my self-titled Ensiferum album. Havent listened to this in years(was one of those albums that was tied to a bad relationship) Makes me wonder when Wintersun's next album will be out...

I don't think i've ever seen Opeth live but I think i have seen damn near everyone else I think I saw Pantera 15 times...never heard of Ensiferum...ahh viking metal...sweet..I also dig post rock big fan of explosions in the sky.

Wow, we have a really eclectic range of great music between us all here, thanks everybody for sharing your recommendations. I like beats, mostly dig instrumental hip hop and electronica, glitchy and wonky stuff, Warp Records, Ninja Tune, all that kind of thing but I'll give anything a listen and I collect all sorts of music, anything that has a beat I like.

To those who posted about Pivot earlier in this thread I wholeheartedly agree, they are a really great band and I'm a big fan of them. Is anybody else going to their gig in Melbourne next month? If you like them you should check out other Australian artists who are in the same sort of scene as them like Qua, Mountains In The Sky and Seekae. For the old psychedelics in the room, I was at Salt Spring Island, BC for a week of vacation and happened upon the island music shop. The variety and condition of the records in this shop speaks a LOT about the true music appreciators out there, let me tell you. I managed to get about 13 used records, 12 of which are in amazing condition.

Of those purchases, I found a quality mono pressing of Fifth Dimension by The Byrds. This album is absolutely phenomenal after a good session. I was basically entranced the entire time I first heard it.

This was closely followed by Crazy Horse's self-titled record (before Neil Young was in the band) and it blew my mind. These albums are folk-rock at it's absolute finest, and 5th Dimension plays heavily into the old west coast sound.

Oh, and I picked up the 1969 pressing of Crosby Stills and Nash's first self-titled record. Has to be in my current top 5 albums.

Check this shit out folks, I guarantee some new listeners will be fully absorbed.

Has anyone ever heard of Tom Waits? He is absolutely unique, and not just a singer so to say, but a performance artist with a gravel voice. He writes all of his own stuff. There is no one else like him or even close. I have seen him in live performances, its ass kicking when your straight, but when your stoned its knock down bitchen. I have one of his early albums-Diamond Dogs (circa 1978) and hes still going strong, better than back in 78. He's been on TV; I think on the Artists and Entertainment channel recently with 2-hour specials at live performances, I never miss a chance to watch Tom Waits. He's not for everyone though. Just wondering if anyone else out there in Vapeland has heard of him or likes what he does?

I would never have believed it if anyone had told me a year ago, but I am listening to Lady GaGa's "Fame Monster" double disc. It is extremely infectious and has a number of tracks that I play over and over. "Lovegame" and "Poker Face" are a couple for example.

To me,her sound is sort of a Madonna x Abba, with a little Courtney Love thrown in for nastiness. Try it, you may be surprised like I was!

I'm out of the target audience age wise, but I'm having seriously good times listening to her stuff, plus she's damn cute (to me at least, but I'm a NJ girl..)
I do have to say, what sold me on her- really got me, was her acoustic stuff. I love her voice straight.
