I saw the Daniel Johnston movie in 2005 when it first came out. I had never heard of him and the documentary was fascinating. The next day, I happened to see in the paper that he had a show coming up at a small club in town. The show was amazing. He played that old beat up guitar of his, and sang a couple songs, and then the local opening band came out and was his back up band for the remainder of the concert. It was great to see a near sold out crowd (about 800 people) with a ton of young kids in the audience.SkeletonLips said:Hopandstop, I love Daniel Johnston. "Walking the Cow" is my favorite song of his, though I can't help but love most of his other stuff just as much. Have you seen the movie "The Devil and Daniel Johnston"? Heartbreaking, and inspiring movie. A must see if you are a fan. I'll have to check out the other bands on your list.
That would be amazing to see. I would see him in a heartbeat. And yep, young and old enjoy Daniel, as I've introduced him to teenagers, as well as a few people in their 50's and 60's.buck824 said:The show was amazing. Definitely catch him live if you get a chance.
I love Pivot, I actually found them while looking for albums by Zombi. Ozric Tentacles are pretty good too. Should also check out the mercury programSkeletonLips said:Listening to a band called "Pivot" right now. Their album "O soundtrack my heart". It reminds me of Fugazi's instrumental stuff, but electronic music based. Very easy to get carried away listening to this album. It's instrumental music with lots of emotional weight. Instrumental Post-punk electro is what I'd classify it as. Very easy to vape to as well. They are on a favorite label of mine, Warp records. If you like the band "Battles" then you'd probably like this band.
I had one of them! Memories.....jeffp said:
One of my favorites,... I have been a raindog for about 20 years.Lycanthrope said:Has anyone ever heard of Tom Waits? He is absolutely unique, and not just a singer so to say, but a performance artist with a gravel voice. He writes all of his own stuff. There is no one else like him or even close. I have seen him in live performances, its ass kicking when your straight, but when your stoned its knock down bitchen. I have one of his early albums-Diamond Dogs (circa 1978) and hes still going strong, better than back in 78. He's been on TV; I think on the Artists and Entertainment channel recently with 2-hour specials at live performances, I never miss a chance to watch Tom Waits. He's not for everyone though. Just wondering if anyone else out there in Vapeland has heard of him or likes what he does?
