I was thinking about some of the trips I did back in 'the daze', and happened to remember snippets of my first time in Amsterdam in the early 80s. Of course we went straight to the Red Light District - we were a bunch of young boys, where wlese would we wind up? This was my first ever port visit in Europe. All I knew were the stories, and I wanted to know if they were true! So anyways, after an afternoon spent window shopping, we needed a break. We knew to avoid any places that looked kinda 'druggy', but how much trouble could we get into in a coffee shop?
To make a long story slightly shorter I heard '
The Song Remains The Same' in this coffee shop, at a decibel level that made your beer sit on the left side of your glass... After our 4th beer the waiter dropped off 4 joints, each in a different coloured wrapper, and a pricelist, saying 'here's a sample to try'... after looking at each other, knowing it would be a bad thing to be caught doing, we flashed up and passed them around. We spent the rest of the night there, and wound up sitting with a whole bunch of great people, none of whom spoke much english. Good times
