I think you may have solved my own personal mystery!
I ran my usual SPD flowers and after extended 100F purge it sugared.
I was kinda sketched, so I winterized it with KX ( I usually do not winterize).
After cold boil purging the KX. I ended up with this.
It looked EXACTLT the same. Except now there is nearly no flavor. Oh well , gotta have goodies to make into edibles.
Edit: forgot to mention. I always scrape. Pour tek next time!

maybe this has something to do with the solvent used...? i ask because i scrape my qwet and always get shatter. never has it looked like your second pic.

wait... @mvapes and @DieHard are you both using N blend from capital?

cause its the propane that tends to cause that cheese effect... some people love it.... the pho I see is very cheesy greazy but I would speculate that if you have recently made a switch from strictly nbutane to an nbutane npropane blend that perhaps that is your cheesy culprit....

Nope I'm still working on a case of Puretane. I may even have a can of Capital around.
I'm getting some slicksheet tomorrow and I'm gonna try to blast direct into the vac chamber. Eliminate the scrape completely.

rats! I was gonna lick that problem for you! its been dry here until recently so shatter has been easy to make. I feel the need to blast some buds soon... all this rosin is nice but a bit harsh on my throat at times... lotta waxes. a nice frosty spring blast may be in order!

Yeah, @DieHard is right. Air is the culprit. Propane is an extremely clean propellant found in almost any butane aside puretane and capital. Capital was trying to come up with a way to get the torch market too without affecting it's extraction properties.

And it a small amount in there, but regardless, this would mean anyone blown with vector, newport, stok, etc... Wouldn't be able to get shatter. See where I'm going with this? Lol

The less you touch it the less sugar your going to see.

Btw, on the matter of yields. Here's something interesting...

I used three nugs from the same batch tonight and Rosin teched each separately. The first one dumped! I got a nice fat dab but the second two gave nothing! Tells you Alot about picking a batch to run. You really never know. This was absolutely fire too, harvested about 2 weeks ago.

Hey brother, I have noticed this inconsistent extraction with rosin tech too, with hash as well. I find that heat pressing resin out of material is a very unreliable method in terms of yields. Still, I'm sure this tech will be refined plenty yet

The other day I was making a batch of QWET and I twice forgot about it. First, I left it on the heating pad for a LONG time. Then I placed it in the freezer and totally forgot about it for hours.

Here is what I got:

Wax? Crumble? Not sure what to call it but it's almost 3 grams and is quite good! I like how you can easily manipulate it and when it hits the nail, it just melts perfectly.

Yielded 3.3 of hard shatter! Tastes just like the flowers. No scrape. Blasted into pyrex with slick sheet.

Tx @Monsoon for buying and reporting. Being a canadian myself, you inspired to take the $ hit and finally order a vac pump and a vac chamber. I took your advice @mvapes and ordered my vac chamber from slickvacseal. I cant wait to properly clean my current diy stash!

I have only had BHO and am curious the main differences, with the assumption that one is using the same starting material for either BHO or QWISO. Specifically, I am curious about the differences of:

a) Effect- Does one have more kick?

b) Taste- Can you tell the difference between the two on the nail?

c) Yield- How much could one expect to yield out of a half o?

Now I've only tried BHO from 3 different gray market suppliers and my own QWISO so that's where I'm coming from. Effects seem to be about the same though I find it has more to do with strain anyway. Taste tends to be smoother and cleaner when properly purged since there are less waxes captured by the ISO during the wash. Flavour has sometimes been better but again varies from strain to strain. For yield I've been consistently hitting 15% return so around 4.2g per oz, sometimes a bit more. Usually get 10% from the first wash, 5% from the 2nd wash. I think the BHO average is about the same but again it's dependent on like a million outside factors.

TL;DR: Taste is smoother and cleaner with QWISO, everything else depends on other variables.

If someone's nailed down both solvent teks, would be cool to do a run each from a single batch of flowers and then do a comparison review.

I've never had QWISO as strong and tasty as the best BHO I've had but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Only part of the way through, but Horatio is talking about a Nalgene™ Aspirator Vacuum Pump. It hooks up to a faucet or other source of moving water and creates a vacuum of 28.5 in.Hg! (min. water pressure of
7.5 psig (0.517 bar). How that sounds like the ticket as you can get them for like $15 on amazon. Still need a vacuum chamber though.
I have seen these type of devices for pumping water from an aquarium, but didn't even think of this application.
So you would only need to run the water (and vacuum) long enough to get to your desired atmosphere (max 28.5 with the above) in the chamber right? Well and any time you need to remove the vacuum to flip or whatever.

Id like to even have a closed loop system but there are so many choices, I just dont know what to get to get started so Im turning to my FC brothers to nudge me in the right direction. How much are you looking to run at one time? Are you planning to get a vac setup. IMO if you get your tek right you may not want to add another solvent to the mix. I am using several standard pipe screens in my tube to keep the smalls out of the micron screen. Then I have 2x25 micron screens with a coffee filter between clamped to the outside of the tube. I am finding that freezing the butane and the Tube with the herb inside in conjunction with the screens is keeping most of the waxes out. @herbivore21 swears by QWISO and makes some fire shatter. I believe in using only one solvent, whichever you choose. The art is in the purge and knowing when to say when. For me the Vac was the best $200 I have spent for my personal errl production.
