Okay, people, I'm surprised as all shit about this, but.... to the best of my knowledge, there is no single thread devoted to comic books.

So, unfortunately, one has to be started by your least favorite FC'er, EveryDayAmnesiac. Therefore, here is the place to celebrate comic books and any of their spawn - films, TV shows, radio shows, etc.

I've mostly only read the obvious stuff. The major Frank Miller and Alan Moore. The well known Batmans. Lots of Hellboy (my favorite artwork). Some X-Men. Walking Dead. Some old Dick Tracy. Some Spiderman and Superman. Some I'm forgetting. Looking to get into some more classic stuff. Real old timey comics.

And I've certainly been a fan of movies based on comic characters since I was a lad (and before I could read) and saw the Adam West Batman movie. I was "hooked" the moment he started to punch a shark hanging off his leg multuple times...


So to be perfectly honest, comic books have mostly been indirectly important to my existence, through films. Strangely enough, Tim Burton's first Batman movie was the first movie I ever saw in a theater, and I've been a changed boy ever since... :o

Then The Crow was my favorite movie as a teenager.

And who doesn't love Superman 2, with good ol' Zod and his strange obsession with making men kneel before him... :bowdown:

300 gets the award for dumbest comic book movie that I enjoy. Who could ever forget Xerxes?

I adore the Hellboy movies, imperfections and all...

There's the often overlooked Road To Perdition and its lovely cinematography.

And let's not forget those TMNTs...


Actually wasn't until my late 20's that I read my first comic book (The Dark Knight Returns).

So, what are some of your favorites? Recommendations? Any good memories...?

The older, the better!

I was into the older stuff... until my son came along. He got into comics looking at my old ones. And got me into X-men, Batman, Punisher, etc. But the favorite that we both shared was this series...

Growing up as a kid I loved my comic books. As an adult, I owned and operated two very successful comic book stores. Finally closed them when the comic market cooled off. Went back to college, got a Masters in Special education, and that's where I am today. One large bedroom in my house is used to store the remaining approx. 40,000 comics, 100,000 sports and comic cards, and loads of memorabilia that I ebay now and then. Tons of autographed stuff too. Don't know if I'll ever let go of it all though, I'm attached to it at an emotional level. My son and I still get excited every time a new super hero movie comes out - and he's 38 years old. We just love it!!!

Sorry ...no can do. They are buried deeply in storage, and I never did put my collection in any easy-to-find order. Boxes & Boxes & Boxes & more Boxes... I guess you'll just have to take my word for it...

Well, I guess when people go looking for the most beautiful blank you ever sold, and they can't find the one you sold to me, and they end up so disappointed that they plan the destruction of Earth, you'll have no one to blame but yourself... :razz:

But yeah, I just love to see rare comics out in the wild.... You understand! :lol:

Can't say that I've read any of the comic books, but I love the two Hellboy movies that have come out. I think the talent of Guillermo del Toro might have as much to do with this as anything (though the story line is very good)

Too bad he didn't get to direct The Hobbit....it would've been amazing for sure had he been given the chance. Peter Jackson whored the story out in the name of ticket sales IMO.

I thought Del Toro stayed very true to the comics, while sending him off on new adventures. Mike Mignola, the comic creator, also had major input on both films, to the best of my knowledge.

@momofthegoons What era of comics is your favorite?

And let's not forget... comic strips count too! :lol:

I do love the old comic stories... and, we picked up the "original" batman episodes.. from the freakin' 1940's "Gotham City Serials" on DVD. Robin, too!
Wow... amazingly propaganda-ish, bigotry, and misogyny.

I was a child in the 60's, and watched Batman & Robin avidly.
I also had an extensive comic book pile. Of course, I was a kid, and read them to pieces.

The Marvel Comics movies are a total kick-in-the-pants funfest, aren't they? :)

Keanu was a great neo, but he sucked as constantine in the film. This guy otoh, seems like he was born to play the role. Along with the silver surfer, constantine was my favorite marvel character back in the day. I had collected the complete run of both characters by the early '90s.

I can't wait for this show, it looks great:popcorn:

I see american comics have been covered, personally I am also a fan of Japanese Manga, Chinese Manhua, and Korean Manhwa. I would start naming some of the series I have read from other countries, but the list is far too long, and I fear I would be the only one who knows them.

I recommend One-Punch Man, it is a japanese manga that has some similarity to american comics, and is extremely hilarious, not to mention it has some of the most amazing artwork I have seen in ANY comic series. http://view.thespectrum.net/series/one-punch-man.html?ch=Volume 01&page=1

The Wrap is reporting that "multiple individuals close to the casting process" of Marvel's upcoming Doctor Strange movie (directed by Scott Derrickson) are saying Joaquin Phoenix "has had discussions" to play the lead role, although there is no deal in place. The report, which is couched in vagueness, comes before Marvel's big Hall H panel at Comic-Con on Saturday, where people think that Doctor Strange casting might be the studio's big piece of news outside of Avengers: Age of Ultron material.

Take this news with a grain of salt, though: Phoenix is a pretty picky actor with his projects and was long-rumored for the Lex Luthor role in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which went to Jesse Eisenberg. The Wrap also says Phoenix has "been mentioned most often" for the role and is "in consideration," and even claims that his interest in playing Luthor suggests he wouldn't dismiss a comic-book franchise out of hand.
