For instance?

"There are some things to watch out for. I would not purchase ceramic or metal from a Chinese clone maker. Metal alloy can be really nasty. We know these factories will sell you a clone, do you trust them to use the highest grade materials? Stick to clear glass or quartz, and pay a little more for American ceramics or metal. Peace of mind — and your health — is worth it."

"The manager didn’t seem surprised that other companies were unreachable on the subject due to the stigma associated with Chinese-made clone glass: unhealthy materials, wrong weighting, every corner cut."

Do you doubt that metal alloy is nasty?
Metal toxicity is very real. How many aluminum pipes do you need to see in a headship to realize these factories are willing to use high profit margin materials?

What happens to the ceramic particles as they are disrupted and start to crumble. All of my ceramic is textured, no longer smooth after one sesh.

I don't see a place for ceramic, as the banger perfectly tuned for the material is just a superior product to me.

Do you see anyone reviewing these alloys with some sort of scientific process to understand what we are making glow-hot? I would love to follow that thread if you link us.

It hurts my heart to see people poison themselves in the process of medicating.

I personally don't see the need to heat metal until it's red when I could just use Quartz. Also, the metal flavor is very strong to me.

Do you disagree that there is a stigma, or that unhealthy materials are often found in Chinese pipes? The stigma line was taken from the mouth of a person who buys many hundreds of pipes in a popular headshop. He should know the stigma, as he talks pipes all day. The article needed (in my opinion) to address this in some way.

I think there really is quality to be had, but the average Joe isn't on the 751st page of this thread. We all might be a tad in love with all of the innovation we are witnessing unfold.

Even our fav sellers on here still put out duds. Stevens new water test (posted above) is a straw.

I rated my fab egg 8 of 10 considering the price.. I think that's pretty positive.

In any other industry, crooked glass would be B grade, and wouldn't go to an A grade market. If you got a case of crooked wine glasses from target, there would be no bs. That isn't the case with many of the sellers here.

These are just some thoughts of mine. Love hearing your feedback. I truly wanted to tell it from a balanced perspective. It's not all skittles and rainbows. Almost all of the collectors that push this thread forward have had a negative experience.

I am thankful we have this thread. I think I check it more often than I should!

I get that it sounds like he's undermining or downplaying china glass, but in all reality these are real risks we take when outsourcing these clones .
Quality reassurance is almost non existent and resources and material change on a whim.

They understand money, not function or purpose. If they can lower costs by 10% at the expense of strength or quality they will do it. 9/10

If you have experience with any Chinese clones at all, e cigs, electronics, glass there is always a health risk in regards to chemical exposure. Your glass blower could work at a factory that produces anything.
These risks are signicantly less due to strict factory regulations in the states.

Which is why we NEED the regulations here.

Hell, that giant explosion in China that was seen in space killed a bunch of people. Not only did they have something like 100 times the safe level of a hazardous chemical on site, but the people who lived across the street had no idea they lived across from a hazardous chemical warehouse.

Exactly lol they are a leader in designer drugs aswell. Your precious glass could be sitting in the same sq ft as cutting/bonding agents..

So? It's glass. I don't know about ya'll, but I like to do a hot water rinse followed by a PBW soak and at least one ISO rinse before I even think about putting my lips on the glass.

Sure maybe it's not true borosilicite glass, but it's good enough for my needs

Does that mean I'd consider dabbing off some chinese quartz or titanium? Probably not

I use all quartz now but have previously used Chinese titanium and ceramics. I am just a big skeptic of health risks when the info always seems to come from someone with a financial interest. These products are being made for sale in North America and believe it or not but most Chinese people don't want to poison their customers. People always point to a couple cases of like contaminated dog food or whatever, but the incidents are very isolated considering the amount of Chinese products we use in our day to day lives. I don't really have an issue with what you said concerning metal alloys, but haven't seen a lick of evidence as to ceramics being dangerous. Pretty sure those ceramic particles are going to get caught in the water in your piece. Just the characterization of Chinese people as having no ethics seems kinda racist to me. The only people who claim that Chinese glass may be unsafe for use sell American glass.

Steven will get no slack from me, his qc is shit compared to a lot of other vendors. Also he buys a lot of pieces made by other vendors such as the one above which has been on DHGate for a couple of weeks already. Other vendors tho like Clean Clear Glass really impress me with their quality and attention to detail.

Received my straight fab replacement, again it only took 6 days, shipping from Steven has been on point, if only the quality of the product was too...

Function test:

As you can see, the perc functions like ass. The 2 slits in front have been stretched into big holes so all the air goes right out them, essentially making the perc irrelevant.
Defect-1.jpg

Jane who I guess is Stevens secretary or something says that those are not holes, that it is perfect and that it does not affect function, that they tested it many times... Anyways, after calling her out on that dishonest load of bull, she has offered to have their "US guy" contact me and send me prepaid shipping boxes to send them to him, then I will receive a full refund. I would stay away from these straight fabs for awhile guys, I dunno if they got some new apprentice pumping them out or something, but they are not coming in with the quality they used to... Never had problems like this from CleanClearGlass, and they are much cheaper.

I use stevens original Ufo release,i use it with one of Kathy reclaimers which does an ok job at reclaim. At least it stops the ufo percy gumming up.
So the ufo can fit a reclaimer? I was wondering if it can fit something like the plantvape subbuddy and be stable. Also is there any way of asking for a design because I just want the ufo with the whip and mouthpiece that has a carb pull, can fit a reclaimer and still be stable. Or somesort of subbuddy ufo hybird.

Did anyone here end up getting the Ball Rig from Steven? I'm curious how it turned out.

Mine is on the way from NY, I should have it by Tues. I ordered the clear one. Someone already ordered the colored one. I don't think they did a water test, but the colored version has a different perc. The clear has slits, the colored has holes. The holes do produce a different pull than the slits from my experience. The pull on the slits is much smoother than the holes.

Steven definitely did not produce the coloured ball rigs. Saw those all over DHGate before he started to carry them.

Seriously? Removed the link to "counterfeit" item? That's like half of DHgate >.> Can we not post about the pnwt clones either?

If it has a phony logo, it's crossed the line into "counterfeit" IMO. Feel free to report any such items and I'll delete those links, too.

:peace:

Ohh ok, didn't know about the logo thing. Good to know. They do say the product you get wont have the logo but the pictures did

Hi all,

Ordered a piece from SunshineSS a few months ago but it met its tragic fate last night so I'm looking to replace it. My piece looked quite a bit like this one from Ying. I'd like to get something a bit more interesting, yet still fairly compact (nothing more around 10 inches tall).

I'm also concerned about qc - and it sounds like Steven's store is hit or miss. Is ying the most reliable seller these days?
