I want to place an order but I am very concerned about the security of my credit card. Could somebody please advise? Thanks.
First of all, the greatest danger to your credit card is your own computer. You're more likely to have a virus that steals info than to get robbed by the seller. Next, the connection is secured for the financial info (sensitive #'s aren't stored), and you have FC's mostly positive experiences for some strong anecdotal evidence that your money is safe. Sellers are flaky sometimes but I haven't heard of credit card fraud from a DHGate purchase yet.
Fraud is serious, and Card Services don't fuck around. They're the Visa/MasterCard customer support people. I've made hundreds of online purchases to dark corners of the internet all over the world in the last 10 years (not counting amazon etc).
In that time, my card has been compromised twice - someone tried to run my numbers. Both times, Card Services declined the transactions, suspended my card, and called me afterwards - saving me hundreds of dollars. The first time, they just put a hold on my card and called me to verify that the activity was fraudulent, cancelled it, and I ordered another debit card from my bank. The second time, while I was on the phone with a rep, he lifted the hold for 45 seconds so I could complete an ebay deal, then re-cancelled it. Maybe the best phone customer service experience I've ever had.
They're the last stop before calling the cops and have a ton of power to fix things, and yet, they've never actually had to refund my account because they've declined fraudulent activity.
