The actual joint wax may work better for an adapter since it won't come out until you want it to.
Joint wax, or really, just beeswax, works really, really well on GonGs where you want 1) solid strong connection yet very easy to remove 2) prevents joint lock.
Just look on Ebay, or at your local drug store, for natural beeswax lipbalm.
Cheaper and easier to procure than JointWax and works just as well. The lipbalm
will probably have something like peppermint essence added (mine does) but it doesn't reduce it's abilities or anything... your GonGs will just smell better
I use it on my cloud buddy. I was curious about it's abilities to keep a strong connection so I nervously lifted my $350 Dirty Rico bubbler off the table by the cloud buddy to 1ft off the table and the Rico (75mm can, 6.25" base so not a light piece) didn't budge. I even gave a slight jerk and it still didn't give.
That was as much of a test as I could stomach, I had my hand hovering under it the whole time... like I could catch it cleanly without dropping it... probably not lol.
But the test certainly gave me confidence it wasn't a waste of time, or money, to use the wax.
It certainly seems like it would help prevent real world accidental GonG disconnection issues.
A Keck would be better insurance but sometimes kecks don't fit the situation properly and well I also just don't much like the looks of kecks on my glass buts thats just personal preference.
edit: just wanted to add a few points so I don't cause someone to break their glass.
>don't do this test. I have a screw loose. If you do it only raise your peice inches and do it above a towel or something lol
> the temperature of the glass affects the performance of the beeswax. If you've just washed your piece and it's still warm the wax will melt enough to reduce it's 'grab'. Apply the joint wax on completely dry ground joints that are at room temp for best results.
>once you apply the wax, insert the joint and give it a twist, it's sort of 'locks'.
DO NOT break this 'seal' and take it out if you don't have to. That first 'seal' is the strongest
and the wax isn't as effective and on the second insertion and much less effective on subsequent insertions. Thats what she said! lol
After that it's best to clean all the wax off the male and female joints and then reapply.
