CBD + THC = less high??

So I've been vaping quite a bit of mail order CBD 'hemp' that is very low in THC. Seems to work better for medicinal and mental health purposes, not to mention the far lower cost than local dispo weed.

But, I've been hearing conflicting things regarding using THC and CBD cannabis at the same time. Some say they work better together, others have said that CBD can inhibit THC's effects.
On a personal anecdote; I think they both do different things, I have not noticed a large difference vaping THC with or without CBD. Even taking a dab of THC after CBD flower either seems to get me just as, if not more zooted than the THC alone.

Please share if you have any experience or inferences on this subject.

Thanks, and much love to y'all :peace:

There is some promising research but it is still early days: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.neubiorev.2019.09.036
Thank you very much for the study, very interesting read.

the free version of the PDF is here for anyone interested:

Hopefully there will be more scientific studies on CBD and THC in the future but for now we can only share our own anecdotes. Might make a fun thread if enough people have experience with both though 🤷‍♂️

I have found that using CBD to calm the anxiety from high-thc weed works very well. But my experience is an anecdote so take that for what it is worth

Same for me. I think variety of dosage ratios and the kinds of differences we see between people with the effects of THC or CBD alone mean that we should expect some differences between people with the combination.

CBD by itself helps me with anxiety too, but some people say it doesn’t do anything for them…I guess it probably has to do with the differences in our various endocannabinoid levels and receptors?

I also think it might be different to have CBD before or with/after THC with CBD first maybe dampening the THC effects a bit more and CBD second feeling more like it’s changing the character of the THC effects…maybe simultaneous use is more in the middle of that range?

I don’t keep careful track of dosages (I rarely use an entire bowl at once so it’s hard to judge), but that makes it harder to narrow down the cause of differences in effects from one session to the next.

I've found that CBD enhances the THC high for me and makes it feel more well rounded.

I've seen people say "if you're too high smoke some CBD and you'll feel less high" and it's absolutely not my experience with it. I'm just as high but more relaxed after I vape CBD after vaping THC. I don't always buy CBD but when I do I find it quite enjoyable to have a bowl of cannabis then a bowl of hemp

Nowadays I prefer the effects of 1:1. The last time I vaped a full bowl of THC bud by itself was a few years ago. 1:1 gets me the same THC fix as THC bud only, but minus the negative effects of THC and the usage gets cut in half. I'm able to load bigger bowls with less THC than ever before and have a nice longer session without getting level 9 berzerk stoned. A win-win no brainer. Ymmv of course.

terpenes add a lot to the equation. is your hemp smells good, strong, can you describe how it smells/tastes?
I prefer a lot of terps instead of a lot of THC. I don't want to close my eyes seeing stars all day. but I do like skywalking

CBD makes you feel good and can make you feel happy too. I like it. definately more medicinal than the new strains which make you feel like you're skywalking all day (THC....+terpz)

diversity is probably the answer here. but terps is what I reach for the most.

CBD only makes THC less inebriating in higher concentrations. 1:1 or close to it. Small amounts of CBD added to THC flower or concentrate can subjectively make you feel higher.

CBD has little binding affinity for either CB1 or CB2 receptors, but it is capable of antagonizing them in the presence of THC (Thomas et al., 2007). In fact, CBD behaves as a non-competitive negative allosteric modulator of CB1 receptor, and it reduces the efficacy and potency of THC and AEA (Laprairie et al., 2015).

For me the 2018 farm bill has made vaping a viable option, industrial hemp is the base of the cannabinoid "food pyramid" IMHO. That being said, it just makes sense to supplement it with a bit of THC. My suggestion is to grab a dab of pure delta 8 distillate, have a rip or two and establish a baseline. Once it's settled in, toss some CBD flower into the mix. In my case the effects are profoundly positive. Maybe its because the CB-1 & CB-2 receptors that the THC is going to bind with are already spoken for. But it is far more likely that the other 100 cannabinoids (and the terps) are also bringing something to the party. Synergy is your friend.

My point is that mixing high THC and low THC flower may muddy the water a bit, you'll probably get a better idea of how these molecules interact when the only variable is the amount of THC you're throwing in the mix; and I promise you that your curiosity will be rewarded when you're running lean and green. :D

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!
The cool thing about hemp is that everyone experiences it differently IMO, I've been vaping it for a good two years now. Whenever I do mix with THC I get a nice controlled high. The hemp usually gives me a body high while the THC basically heightens me if that makes any sense. Yes the CBD definitely inhibits the euphoria and dumbness you get from THC, however the body high for me is an amazing trade-off.

I recently got an Anvil and holy shit I would've had to rip my electric vape 15x cycles to feel what the Anvil gives me in three.

DON'T pay ridiculous prices for hemp unless you actually care that deeply about it's smell and look.

A $30 ounce from Horn Creek, is going to give you exact same effects as that overpriced $100+ ounce from wherever the fuck else.

Hemp is just getting baked minus the dumb mind, I actually rip hemp then study and do homework. I feel like it keeps me in tune and focused,

I should also note, I consume on/off 3 times a week average. Some weeks I don't vape at all, other weeks I will every night lol.

I've heard that CBD reduces the high, but I think the extremely low levels of CBD in weed that's produced with the objective of getting high says it all: the quest for stonier weed has been an evolutionary force, with the end result that it's rare to find a stone-y weed that has more than the tiniest % of CBD. this reflects 1000's of decisions made over centuries ("does this plant get me higher than that one?"). if CBD made weed stronger or was just neutral, you'd expect its % to more closely resemble hemp.

yeah it seems like the majority of the market is young people who likes THC and a lot of it, in Greece I've found great CBD concentrates tho, I am pretty sure they are available in other places in EU or in the USA?
CBD Concentrate definately makes me feel good.

Sam skunkman the breeder of Skunk no. 1 writes a lot about this topic on IC mag.

This is a quote from Sam S who is a very experienced researcher as well as a legendary breeder.

"It took hundreds if not thousands of years for local farmers to remove all the CBD from Cannabis they grew/bred. This was done the old way trying each plant and by only saving the seeds of the best for future growing. It worked remarkably well many NLD types have little to no other Cannabinoids beside THC.
In the last decade everyone has jumped on the CBD bandwagon and thousands of folks are making hybrids with THC/CBD, they are in fact undoing the work that took a long time.
I have nothing against CBD for medical use but I do not want it in my recreational Cannabis. CBD delays onset of THC, reduces peak experiences, and makes the reduced effects last longer.
I think the whole CBD fad (like most non-medical CBD use) will end up screwing the Cannabis recreational drug genepool.
This is all ready happening in Labs, there used to be little CBD found in recreational varieties, now it is common to find .5-5% CBD in a lot of the newer recreational varieties, in a few years it will only get worse.
CBD should be kept out of recreational varieties, and it is not happeneing, the exact opposite is happening. CBD varieties should not be used for breeding to make seeds to be sold or given to non medical users, they will be used to make hybrids that enter the recreational market and genepool.
Next I expect some unthinking folks to take CBD rich varieties to the traditional Ganja areas, that will pollute the NLD genepool in any area they do this in.
I am happy to hear others views on the subject. It is obvious that CBD does help many patients, and some like it for recreational use to help control/modify high THC effects they don't like.
-SamS"

This is a very interesting point of view from someone who has a lot of experience with cannabis. It seems CBD makes the weed more of a creeper and reduces the peak effects. But it makes the high last a bit longer.

I hope this information helps.

@GoldenBud Really, from my country? Out of curiosity, what did you buy and from where?
Crete Island! Great views, beaches and mountains, Olive Trees etc', I liked it
I brought some CBD concentrate in the hotel I visited

Well I do.
That being said, I do agree that seeds should be segregated (I want to be the one creating the blends).
However I walk into my local dispensarys today and the problem he speaks of appears to be nonexistent, at least right now, because I can't find anything that has more than 0.01% cannabidiol or other hemp compounds in it.
What is he concerned about exactly, that we'll eventually live in a world where everything on a dispensary shelf is 1:1?
I mean, if it took hundreds if not thousands of years for marijuana THC content to be where it is now, wouldn't it take another several hundred years for it to be "undone"?

the molecule which creates the THCA can create THCA or CBDA not both. that's why most of the market holds flower which has like 25% THCA and 0.01% CBDA. it can't go together, right to these days.

This is not correct. THCA and CBDA are diffferent molecules and can co-exist. You can easily find strains that have both. For example, I currently have Mango Haze in my stash, which has 5-10% THC and 9-15% CBD according to the label.

these ranges are too wide, and I meant 15% THCA, 15% CBDA, something that will really take a place in the shelfs.
8% THCA 12% CBDA is still low..but better than nothing!

I understand what I was saying wasn't 100% corrent, but there's, still a reason why you see buds with 35% THCA and 0.01% CBD but still there's no 15% CBDA + 15% THCA in a flower

The ranges are wide because that's the range found in analysis. This is from my new dealer the government and if you can't trust them, well...

I am in Ontario Canada and this came directly from the government-run Ontario Cannabis Store. I see that on the website they are now saying 4-10% THC and 6-12% CBD. This reflects the fact that different crops will have different percentages. I don't know enough about it to say why a 15-15 strain doesn't exist but certainly you can have a fair amount of both.

There is no molecule that can turn into either CBDA or THCA though.
