Cannabis-only smokers who switched to vaping?

Actually you are far from the truth, besides the use of the chemicals to preserve the tobacco and manufacture it to it's standard, you discart the possibility that 1 of the 600 in cigarette isn't the magic potion that allows your brain to give way to another.

Since cigs are a mind drug, here's the metaphore.

Each chemical is a person, and each person has been invited into your world, and out of each chemical, there are maybe 50-60 for example that you see everyday, you see them when you eat, drink, breathe, maybe when you rub cream on yourself, you see them again because they exist elsewhere and you contract them elsewhere. However, out of the ones you don't see everyday, there are ones that are only seen once in a while, like maybe you enjoy the smell of fuel? or some distinctive smell from glue while you are in art class sticking a piece of paper to another? Then you have those that are only present in cigs, such as the "free-base" chemicals or those only manufactured in labs. Well ok, out of all these people (chemicals) you see, there is this one girl or boy you fall in love with, at first you might "feel" that you are in love, because that person seems to make you "feel" good, and being with that person kind of makes all the other people make you "feel" good about yourself.

This happens on a sub-conscious level, nothing you can directly control unless you do it on a level of pure strength of will which even then will be because you are blocking off not that one person, but rather putting up a whole wall and ridding yourself causing collateral damage such as maybe present thoughts, forcing the chemistry in your body to change, stress and other factors that i can't think of right now. The truth boils down to the story where your consciouness which in this case we will refer to as "daddy or mommy" is saying "you can't have that person" and in contrast, even though you are the one who made that decision and you are the one going through with it without anyone holding a gun at your head, your sub-conscious will reflect back holding your hand with another answer such as "why can't i be with him/her?" "there's nothing wrong" "there's no pain" "it's nothing just to see him again" "it's only once anyway" "i can always say no if i don't like it". In this situation you will yield, you will be torn by both your consciouness and sub-consciouness. When you see people using cigs or tobacco, it will side with your what you are seeing and will work against you. It's a painful story of romeo and juliet.

If you take all 600 chemicals and for each living person, suppose each chemical might be delegated to be at the top of the pyramid as the starting element of addiction leading to many several other addictions of other chemicals without the user even realising, leading to the common nicotine addiction. I would say that 600 chemicals, most with the potential of starting the addiction, just like going to a friends party, making friends with his friends then becoming your friends friend best friends, then sleeping with his sister and becoming a family member. Not so far off saying your friend is a terpene that you administer everyday with food and you see him again when you smoke tobacco, only this time he's with other people, and out of those people you thought it was cool to make them a part of your life.

Only difference with smoking is that you don't make any decisions besides using fire to light up.

So yes, i do think that the people behind the manufacturing of cigarettes and tobacco have designed it so well that you will eventually become addicted to smoking. It was designed in such a way that there was a need for so many chemicals, a justification to have every single one present. They would have more of a chance to getting you hooked on with 600 chemicals rather than just nicotine. If nicotine doesn't work on you, then they will make it work on you. Each chemical, each road, leads to another, until you reach your destination, and that's addiction. If one doesn't work, there's another.

I mean come on, look how much money they are making, if they didn't have so many people hooked on do you think they would come this far? They have enough money to finance research to this degree, and probably even past standard government research. People who have this much money are capable of selling poison to you and make you believe you are taking a youth potion.

I understand, i still maintain my version, tobacco does not need additives to be addictive and i don't think it is the additives that do the addiction. When i smoked i bought natural tobacco, with no chemicals, 95% of the time that i bought.

I think you are fooling yourself if you think there is a conspiracy theory around tobacco and the tobacco industry has researched ways to make you more addicted. Even though there could be such a thing as research made to make it more addictive, i really never heard about it.

I also think that the exposure to people smoking triggers your smoking urges, just as when you see food, you realize you want to eat.. not because you feel the chemicals present and are familiar with them, but because it triggers memories in the brain associated with dopamine release, which makes you feel happy.

Demonizing tobacco or the industry is not the answer, tobacco is a plant and has an active compound which alters part of your brain function when consumed, bringing you pleasure. Some people like ADHDers, or people with Parkinson Disease or Bipolar Disorder for example, have a problem with a brain function which ultimately affects dopamine release and assimilation or other neurothransmitters like serotonin.. this is why there are people more prone to addictions and who have a harder time overcoming them.

FWIW, i am not defending the tobacco industry.. i think they are a powerfull lobby that as done more harm than good (much more harm.) and have an impunity that doesn't correlate with the potential harm tobacco has.

So we " All " agree ,
Tobacco is bad !
Slightly derailing ...from Qbit's question .
The main ingredient is " MJ/THC " for doing both ways .
I realize this is a vape forum , and can understand the " back-lashing " one gets for admitting to smoke MJ

But follow me on this ;
Smoking THC is version 1
Digesting THC is version 2
Vaping THC is version 3 :)

And yes , Vaping has improved my health and I'm better off for doing so .
I will shoot for 100 % vaping ...eventually .

" And now , back to " my " regular-scheduled program " :)

There is no backlashing, just preferences. It is expected that a forum named "Fuck Combustion" has more people who chose to cut the combustion habit.

If you go to grasscity, you will find the opposite is true.. :)

I didn't follow the versions bit.. are you about your preferences in terms of high, process or in terms of harm done? Or do you take all factors in account?

Because in terms of harm done, digesting THC is the safest option. But, I prefer vaporizing hands down to all other ways of consuming the plant in every aspect.

Wow ! As an old pot head ( 60 ) who has smoked weed with all kinds of different people
here in NYC , we never mixed tobacco with our herb. This "mixing" is a recent thing brought
on by those who smoke spliffs.

I believe the original Jamaican spliffs were all weed wrapped in corn husk.

Most of my friends hate the smell of tobacco and would never mix that poison with good herb!

I never smoked tobacco, but like many of us on this forum I have smoked weed for decades
and have only switched to vaporizing 03/2010.

For a while I hungered for that joint like hit, but eventually that vapor taste, especially from
that first pull, won out and now I can't combust at all.

My lungs feel great, but I seem to be vaping all the time. The launch box lends itself to this
as you can take a pull almost anywhere.

I was amazed that so many forum members use tobacco.

Cannabis was consumed not just in Jamaica.. i don't know where the habit of mixing tobacco came from. It looks cultural, in Morocco they mix with tobacco because they use hash mainly, in Brasil they usually smoke weed so the habit is a pure joint.

It is curious though, since Tobacco came mainly from America, that the tobacco joint is mainly an european thing.

My theory is that we adapted the way morocans smoke hash to weed as well for various reasons (smokers would like it best, and it conserves more material are the reasons i feel are the most likely IMO) until it became the norm.

Hey v,
The new versions are usually better than the previous versions .
ie : i-phones
I just meant the first way of taken in THC was smoking it .

When I was younger , the most potent buds for the price was my concern .
But when I was young , I was a bit of a risk taker and experimented with other substances
like LSD , mushrooms and cocaine ...chasing after that big " high " .
But I finally settled on MJ/hash and have never looked back .

Now at age 51 ,
My health is first concern , I still want THC in my system daily , and that is why
I am vaping . I haven't try any edibles or THC capsules .
We used to make oil/tea and drank it . It gave me a body stone and I really did not
like it that much .( can't drive or work )

Good on all of you for vaping

I'm off to work now , so here comes the THC :)

Happy vaping .

Got it, makes sense! :)

Yeah, i think the health premise is the most appealing when you first transition to vapour.

Now, the taste you get and type of high are what keeps me floating in the clouds instead of up in smoke.

I'm really amazed that there are people who believe weed should only be consumed mixed with tobacco (not bashing, just commenting). One time a guy from Denmark offered to roll me a "spliff". Me, without knowing what that was, agreed, just to realize that "spliff" meant to mix it... I couldn't even finish half of it, and had to give it away.

And that's because I never been a tobacco smoker. Tried it a few times, and it just made me cough a lot, the taste was bad, and there was no effect whatsoever, so I just said "fuck it", even if most of my friends are smokers. Now I'm saying "fuck it" to combusting weed too.

I've tried MJ on 2006, and have been smoking since then, but I became an habitual user since last year, and my lungs really started to feel it. In late 2011 I started coughing and coughing because of a sickness, but the problem was that my lungs didn't recovered properly and I keep coughing even if I wasn't sick, along with those nasty yellow phlegms in the morning (cough syrup helped, but still there was something wrong). That’s when I look up to the vape world, and finally got my MFLB on April this year.

First thing I noticed was that "clean feeling" on my lungs when exercising, no more buildup or some other nasty stuff in there. Of course I didn't gave up combustion immediately but I'm slowly shifting towards an almost combustion-free life. I already sold my old pipes, and a SSV is on it's way, and I also have a no-combustion policy in my apartment. People says I'm overexagerating, but hell no, once you start using a vap daily, without smoking, your mindset simply changes; now every time someone smokes, I'm surprised of how bad (and strong, damn, no wonder why my mom caught me :p) the smell is. I think my only problem with vaping so far is that it dries up my lungs and can induce some coughing (nothing that water filtration won fix).

I guess it has to do with culture, 95% of MJ users i met are tobacco+MJ joint smokers, i met 1-2 who only do bong hits, and i never ever met another who vaporizes. I met one who had a iolite but he didn't use it at all so, although he tried he was still a smoker.

I think it is funny what you said about your policy and i think you are spot on!, it is just such a big paradigm shift that once you make it completely, i find it would be almost impossible to go back.

And the smell, let's just say that everytime i thought no one was on to what i was doing, they in fact knew what i was doing.

It is insane how you have absolutely no idea how obvious it is do other people that you smoked, and how obvious it is to a fellow stoner or former stoner, to regognize the signs and the smell you carry with you all the time.

A little back history...I smoked cigarettes heavily for 6 years when I was younger, I quit & never looked back. It now has been 9 years, (Im 28 now) but I have smoked hookah hashish and blunts since then.

Before I discovered vaporizing my primary way to smoke was via pipe, joints or blunts (I was involved with someone who that was their primary way of smoking) but about 3 months ago I caved and purchased a volcano, since then, I have only vaped unless I was around someone who wanted to smoke another way, or I was out with friends and since the volcano isn't portable I had to either suck it up or not smoke. I have since then purchased a portable but it hasn't arrived yet.

I have noticed that the phlegm that I had for almost a year is completely gone even though when I first got my volcano I got a very bad chest congestion that lasted about a week and then demisnished completely. (I say it's because my lungs needed a deep cleaning from not smoking blunts anymore)

I love vaping mostly for the fact that I don't need any lighters (sucks when I wanted to smoke and the lighter either was out of fluid or I simply couldn't find one) I eventually just kept a box of matches handy for those night joints. Also that I don't smoke up the house while I vape, it barely even smells. Also there's no hot ash! I was so worried about smoking in the house because people tend to drop ash or not even notice when they did, ah stoned people! Lol

So to me there are tons of advantages to vaporize exclusively, and I'm glad I finally discovered this new vaping world! I feel like I have been so naive with herb all these years!

Amen.

I started smoking cigs and blunts at the age of 14. I smoked my last cigarette on my 19th birthday (25 now) and have been blunt free since I switched to vaping about a year ago. I feel great as I can actually run a few miles without feeling like my chest is going to explode. I find the smell of any kind of smoke quite repulsive now. Vaporization is better in every way imaginable. My friends call me a vapor snob but I don't care, I call them cavemen.

Puppies.... I smoked two packs of Kools a day from the age of 14 to the age of around 22. Started smoking mj at the same age. Never stopped. I'll be 60 this year. (shhhhhh.... it's a secret! ;)) And there are many here who can say they have used just as long. Close to 3 years ago, I made the change over to vapor. I had horrible, productive coughing and my voice sounded like I'd been drinking whisky and smoking for years. I couldn't laugh without having a coughing fit and knew I would have to find a different method of delivery or quit. Well.... that wasn't an option! Within 1 month of changing over to vapor, the black stuff that I was coughing up was gone and my breathing and voice were clear. I have tried combusting twice since I made the switch and hated it both times. Nasty. I'll turn a blunt or pipeful down with no problem now. I'd rather go without.

Switching to vapor only was the best decision I ever made. So glad you guys are on board too.

Making the switch is the hardest part, but once you switch over, you will be blessed economically, you will also have a wide range of options to choose from when you want to hit it and lastly you will thank yourself for getting your health back. You can't go wrong with a vaporizer, just gotta get rid of the old habit and your set.

To answer the original question, I was a regular smoker of marijuana for about 9 months (primarily in a perc'ed bong) prior to switching over to vaporizing. After switching to a vape, my chronic cough stopped - no more mucous in my chest. This doesn't really prove anything, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Roll a joint of your current stash, exhale each hit through your nose. Now go swab your nostrils with a square of tp.

The residue you find might remind you of the 'black lung' they scare you with during anti smoking campaigns in school.

I love it when people say its unprovable that vaping is better for you than smoking. Of course everyones different, but most of us observe the difference. I've never been a tobacco user. I went from daily smoking to daily vaping, and noticed changes. My voice is clearer (when I dont have supreme cottonmouth), my mind is clearer. I spend less money. I breath better. I dont hate mornings near as much. I get skunky flavor and a soaring high from big hits, instead of a sore throat and a gag test. I'm not saying these things because others do. I say them because they are true, and to me define 'better' pretty well.

I am 27 years old. I started smoking black-n-milds around age 18, then i started inhaling them and switched to cigarettes around age 19-20.

I started smoking MJ when I was about 16, lightly smoked all throughout high school and quit shortly after I graduated (about 18). I then got back into smoking MJ about 2-3 years ago (age 24-25), so I took a good 5 years off the daily use of MJ. I was always a glass smoker, but my friends were BLUNT and joint smokers, so I enjoyed my fair share of smoking in every form.

I remember about 2-3 years ago when I got back into smoking MJ again, my friend bought a $25 globe vaporizer off eBay and thats when I fell in love with vapor. (boy was that vaporizer a POS)

I quick smoking cigarettes 22 days ago, and started vaping MJ full time 23 days ago (day before I quit smoking). I can without a doubt notice a huge difference in my body after I stopped smoking EVERYTHING. I will say on ocasion I will roll a joint up or smoke a bong/bowl with combustion, but I'm talking 2-3 times a week as opposed to 2-3 times a day. I am not 100% off combustion, but I cut down a HUGE amount now that I discovered the wonderful world of QUALITY vapor.

I currently own the Pax by Ploom and think its the best thing since sliced bread.
I LOVE vaping so much I am now looking for an at home Vaporizer, which is a hard decision for me since there are so many nice quality vapes on the market now.

Just my :2c: about smoking.

While I congratulate you on your quitting smoking, the purpose of this thread isn't to ask how vaping compares to smoking generally, but specifically how vaping (only) weed differs from smoking only weed. The effects of smoking tobacco are well know, but many cannabis only smokers claim that there is little to no harm in cannabis smoke.

opps, sorry about that

I can say after 23 days of vaping Cannabis, I feel a lot better than when I was smoking. But I am kinda 'void' because I quit smoking tobacco at the same time I quit smoking cannabis, so it was a combination of BOTH that made me feel better 23 days later.

I can see how vaporizing cannabis can be a lot better for your body than smoking, but the reason I started vaping was because I wanted to stop smoking EVERYTHING, and keep the carcinogens out of my lungs.

That's all well and good, but off-topic. I created this thread to gather anecdotes from those who were only smoking cannabis when they switched to vaping. Your story will only prompt many cannabis-only smokers to point to your former tobacco habit as the reason for the detrimental effects on your health.

I'll add my :2c:

I tried smoking tobacco in high school, luckily I made my self sick chain smoking one night, and never went back. I started smoking bud around age 17, and pretty much became a regular herb smoker from then on out with only occasional breaks here and there. I am 38 now, and started vaping exclusively around the beginning of this year. I have noticed that my sense of smell is much more acute now, I don't have that spider web feeling in my lungs, I no longer hack up brown/black looking stuff, I feel better, can breathe better, and really love the taste, smell, and high from vaporizing. Now if I even try to combust herb, I get a headache, my sinuses get thick and my body/lungs feel dirty/heavy like it's having to work harder to process it. Maybe I am just overly aware, or sensitive, but I feel a huge difference now that I don't combust on any kind of regular basis. I also feel I don't get as sick as often, and I wonder if some of that has to do with the fact that I am not passing a bowl around to pick up everyone's germs...

So you didn't mix tobacco with your herb before switching to vaping?

Mixing tobacco with herb makes the smoke more pleasant and smoother, even Howard Marks states he does so himself. But by all means by doing so you are weighing down a nicotine addiction on yourself without you realizing, and whenever you don't feel like smoking herb, you will smoke tobacco because you will tell yourself you want the smoke going down your throat but you don't feel like getting high. This is quite a huge problem especially when switching to vape, because even though you switched over, you will still need to make it past that sub-conscious addiction that will favor smoke over vape. The second problem lies in the surface area of your lungs that has been covered with that classic sheet of black tar and other pollutants, there is no way in hell you will manage to get as high as someone who hasn't been smoking or cleared their lungs first. So you might come on this site and read how people say they manage to save 3x the amount of herb used compared to smoking, ect, ect... then when you try it, you find that not even the same amount is comparable to smoking. Well this is because of 2 factors, primarily number one which consists of the amount of THC that the lungs can absorb in 1 go (if your lungs are covered in tar, then it's quite obvious they aren't running at their full capacity and if they aren't running at their full capacity then it points to the fact that less vapor will hit the surface area of your lungs thus resulting in less vapor being absorbed, less vapor is less THC), and number two when smoking you aren't getting a clean high from your herb, you are injecting your lungs with a cocktail of other badass carcinogens and chemicals that your body is going to fight by releasing their own chemicals (which is probably the kind of high your body is used to)

that was never the case for me. around here everyone mixes, so I've always been weird for smoking pure, and now vaporizing. my very first time was with tobacco(since it was a friend's joint), very harsh and had to cough a lot, think it's the worst irritation+coughing Ive ever had. still heard about that for a while tough, apparently I sucked in a third or half or so of the joint in one inhale. my 5th time or so smoking was the first time I smoked it without tobacco(my own weed, my first selfrolled joint), and was also the first time I actually got high. already that first time I found it way smoother as with tobacco. I can take pretty big hits with just weedsmoke, without any chance of coughing, but with tobacco I can only take smaller hits.

The herb mixed with tobacco thing is definitely dependent on culture and where you live. I grew up in NYC and everyone I knew (myself included) primarily smoked blunts so we techinically did mix herb with tobacco. When I got to college, I met a few joint smokers and nobody mixed it with tobacco. I have only met one person who mixed and he was from Germany.

The only times we mixed tobacco was when rolling with Hash and Oil .
Only because it was more economical than using MJ to keep the joints burning .
That was then ...now I use MJ to roll with Hash , Oil , and very recently Budda .

I know vaping is more healthier than smoking .
And smoking is bad .
But ,
Smoking MJ is a lot healthier/better than smoking tobacco . That's for sure .

I agree, except for the first sentence. Any tobacco at all for me make me cough for minutes, but my friends who are used to their "poppers" (basicly bong snaps with tobacco underneath the herb) find pure weed very harsh, except for joints because not many people actually mix their herb and tobacco around here. It also explains why they complain that my vapes "dont get them as high", Theyre used to absorbing dirty tobacco/weed smoke with all those toxins so their lungs cant absorb all the actives in clean vapor. not to mention theyre used to that groggy duo smoke buzz that I hate.

On a different note, anyone find that they cant stand the smell the two smokes mixed? Personally I love the smell of combusted cannabis and hate the smell of tobacco, but for some reason the smell of them together is even more repulsive to me than tobacco smoke alone.

On a different note, anyone find that they cant stand the smell the two smokes mixed? Personally I love the smell of combusted cannabis and hate the smell of tobacco, but for some reason the smell of them together is even more repulsive to me than tobacco smoke alone.

Just to add ,
My sister comes to visit me twice a year . She still smokes cigs .
Since the only smoking area at my place , is the inside of my closed garage .
I can smell the tobacco for days after she's left .
And this is " after " with smoked cannabis sessions inside the garage .
So ,
If you want to hide the fact you just smoked a joint .( before work/meetings )
Just light a cig and wave it around yourself and your clothing/hands .
And hopefully , you won't get fired for smoking a cig.....at least not yet .:)

Yes , to HATE the smell of tobacco !
