Marijuana will destroy these kids lives, so lets lock these kids up and put felonies on their records that, yes, will make it harder for them to find a decent job and screw up their future quite effectively, but we're protecting them
Even for the people who think marijuana Is harmful, how does that logic make any sense
Oh, How many times I have had to make that point to 'Law and Order' types. You would think it would be an obvious point by now. But Group-think is enemy #1 for rational thought. You can apply that across the board for any issue. IMO. Kids being kids will make mistakes in judgment. It is not only their lack of life experiences but a biological fact. They also tend to be more impulsive and are more prone to things like peer pressure. Not that peer pressure doesn't occur with lawmakers. Oh Snap! Simply threatening kids with a felony, solves nothing and harms everybody in the long term. And I haven't even touched upon people who are more prone to addictive behavior or those who are self medicating a deeper problem.
Plus the lawmakers change there tune when you mention their nieces and nephews being incarcerated. Its always someone whom they never met who is the 'wrongdoer'. AKA strawman.

I wouldn't wait for a candidate to make a decision for me. :2c: The election isn't for another year. Try contacting those who are already in office in your district and keep a pulse on current legislation. And vote in every election if you care enough, not just the foot race/presidential election. But also the mid-term and local elections. These candidates weren't exactly raised in a goldfish bowl. But feel free to point the exceptions to me.
As far as remaining current, This bill has been introduced and their is still time to make an impact. I have already contacted my congressman regarding this.
New Bill Would Prevent DEA From Using Federal Forfeiture Funds For Marijuana Seizures
Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) introduced the “Stop Civil Asset Forfeiture Funding for Marijuana Suppression Act.”

Pot Arrests Up: 1 Every 45 Seconds Last Year
The number of marijuana arrests rises for first time in years, despite more permissive laws.

American law enforcement officers arrested one person for marijuana every 45 seconds in 2014, data released Monday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation show.

The nearly 701,000 marijuana arrests, about 90 percent for possession alone, reveal an increase in busts for the first time since 2009, despite the spread of more lenient laws and policies.

In 2013, by contrast, cops made about 693,000 arrests for possession, sale or production of marijuana, down from an all-time high of 873,000 in 2007.

It’s unclear why the number of arrests increased last year, particularly given the nationwide sea change in attitudes about the status of marijuana and political actions that decriminalized or abolished penalties for possessing the drug.

My guess would be that due to all the conversation, mag articles, newspaper articles, etc people are treating MJ more casually and exposing themselves more to aggressive policing. Those who WANT to arrest you for it have greater opportunity.

And, of course, those areas that are NOT liberalizing the pot laws want that to be perfectly clear. It seriously sucks, but it isn't a surprise. I myself would have never considered contributing to a forum like this 10 years ago or more. My comfort level has risen, but so has my exposure if jonny law wants me...

Some, but not all (like LEAP) of Law enforcement have an agenda. Massachusetts gets it and changed their policy to stop this practice.
My prediction. MJ smell-proof containers will be mandatory for those driving home from the dispensary in some states.

Overall, 44.9 percent of drug arrests made in 2014 were on marijuana-related charges. Marijuana possession arrests alone made up 39.7 percent of all drug arrests and more than 5.5 percent of all arrests made over the year. More than 83 percent of total drug-related arrests were made for possession alone, with nearly 17 percent of arrests for sale and manufacturing.

FBI data showing that clearance rates for a number of violent crimes have been historically low in recent years. More than a third of murders went unsolved in 2014, for example.

There’s just no good reason that so much police time and taxpayer money is spent punishing people for marijuana when so many murders, rapes and robberies go unsolved.

And here's the kicker. People who are carrying a small bag, will be less likely to be cooperative with the police (out of fear) with information that would help with those officers investigating a murder, rape, robberie, traffic accident, etc, etc, and etc. Or be an important witness to a crime. It puts them on the wrong side of helping law enforcement. No matter how good intended they want to be. They have to stay back and out of the picture. Now imagine being brown or black with a small bag, but also being a do-gooder and genuinely wanting to help with an investigation to remove violent crime from your own neighborhood. That little bag of plant matter is preventing you from doing all that. That part of the argument is rarely voiced.

Follow the money, some locals take full advantage of federal funding that comes with the war on drugs. When asset seizures are coupled with the directed funding it is almost too much for some folks to resist. If the Feds really wanted it over they would just turn off the funding.

First you need to know that South Dakota has harsh MJ laws and no decriminalization or medical programs. However...

South Dakota tribe to open nation's 1st marijuana resort

.

FLANDREAU, S.D. (AP) — The Santee Sioux tribe has already proven its business acumen, running a successful casino, a 120-room hotel and a 240-head buffalo ranch on the plains of South Dakota.

But those enterprises have not been immune to competition and the lingering effects of the Great Recession, so the small tribe of 400 is undertaking a new venture — opening the nation's first marijuana resort on its reservation. The experiment could offer a new money-making model for tribes nationwide seeking economic opportunities beyond casinos.

Santee Sioux leaders plan to grow their own pot and sell it in a smoking lounge that includes a nightclub, arcade games, bar and food service, and eventually, slot machines and an outdoor music venue.

"We want it to be an adult playground," tribal President Anthony Reider said. "There's nowhere else in American that has something like this."

The project, according to the tribe, could generate up to $2 million a month in profit, and work is already underway on the growing facility. The first joints are expected to go on sale Dec. 31 at a New Year's Eve party.

The legalization of marijuana on the Santee Sioux land came in June, months after the Justice Department outlined a new policy that allows Indian tribes to grow and sell marijuana under the same conditions as some states.

Many tribes are hesitant to jump into the pot business. And not everyone in Flandreau, about 45 miles north of Sioux Falls, believes in the project. But the profit potential has attracted the interest of many other tribes, just as the debut of slot machines and table games almost 27 years ago.

"The vast majority of tribes have little to no economic opportunity," said Blake Trueblood, business development director at the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development. For those tribes, "this is something that you might look at and say, 'We've got to do something.'"

Flandreau's indoor marijuana farm is set against a backdrop of soybean fields. If not for a security booth outside, the building could pass as an industrial warehouse.

Inside, men are working to grow more than 30 different strains of the finicky plant, including those with names like "Gorilla Glue," ''Shot Glass" and "Big Blue Cheese."

Pot is prone to mildew and mold, picky about temperature and pH level and intolerant to tap water. So the Santee Sioux have hired Denver-based consulting firm Monarch America to teach them the basics.

Tribal leaders from across the country and South Dakota legislators will tour the Flandreau facility in mid-October.

"This is not a fly-by-night operation," said Jonathan Hunt, Monarch's vice president and chief grower. Tribal leaders "want to show the state how clean, how efficient, how proficient, safe and secure this is as an operation. We are not looking to do anything shady."

Elsewhere, crews have begun transforming a bowling alley into the resort.

A marijuana resort open to the public has never been tried in the U.S. Even in states such as Colorado and Washington, where pot is fully legal, consumption in public places is generally forbidden, although pro-pot activists are seeking to loosen those restrictions. Colorado tolerates a handful of private marijuana clubs.

Unlike the vast reservations in western South Dakota, where poverty is widespread, the little-known Flandreau Santee Sioux Reservation is on 5,000 acres of gently rolling land along the Big Sioux River. Trailer homes are scarce and houses have well-trimmed lawns.

The Santee Sioux hope to use pot in the same way that many tribes rely on casinos — to make money for community services and to provide a monthly income to tribal members. The existing enterprises support family homes, a senior living community, a clinic and a community center offering afterschool programs.

Reider hopes marijuana profits can fund more housing, an addiction treatment center and an overhaul of the clinic. Some members want a 24/7 day care center for casino workers.

The prosperity that marijuana could bring to Indian Country comes with huge caveats. The drug remains illegal under federal law, and only Congress can change its status. The administration that moves into the White House in 2017 could overturn the Justice Department's decision that made marijuana cultivation possible on tribal lands.

Meanwhile, tribes must follow strict security measures or risk the entire operation.

The marijuana cannot leave the reservation, and every plant in Flandreau's growing facility will have a bar code. After being harvested and processed, it will be sold in sealed 1-gram packages for $12.50 to $15 — about the same price as the illegal market in Sioux Falls, according to law enforcement. Consumers will be allowed to buy only 1 gram — enough for two to four joints — at a time.

Want another gram? The bar-coded package of the first gram must be returned at the counter.

Since the Santee Sioux announced their plans, the Passamaquoddy Tribe in Maine signed a letter of intent with Monarch to build a cultivation facility for industrial hemp. The Suquamish Tribe and Washington state officials signed a 10-year agreement that will govern the production, processing and sale of pot on the tribe's land.

In the long run, Reider is certain that the benefits will outweigh the risks of tribal marijuana enterprises.

The tribe, he said, must "look at these opportunities because in order to preserve the past we do have to advance in the present."

Ohio is a perfect example of this. It is why politicians on both sides have continually beat down any cannabis measure that comes up in this state.

Hell...it took many millions for ResponsibleOhio to push through a ballot measure and even after all that, instead of leaving it up to the people, they are trying to fool people into voting for an "anti-monopoly" law that, if voted for in conjunction with issue 3, effectively voids out every part of issue 3.

These same politicians had no issues with a gambling monopoly coming in and setting up shop much in the same way several years back. Why fight cannabis so hard?

Because many of them are making bank off of it being illegal. It's why I have no hope for this state if issue 3 doesn't pass.

Herb gardener...
I'm sick of being looked down on for using cannabis, as if it makes me scum. Our uk politicians know fuck all about cannabis exept what the media tells them. They have no plans to change our law as that would not address the 'harm' being caused to people. Stupid fucking nanny state. Stop trying to protect people from themselves. And if your so keen on stopping harm to your citizens then why the fuck is a alchohol and tobacco still legal you hypocritical fucks. And all people wanna say to me is, it's illegal for a reason. Ignorant pricks. While you sit there poisening your liver every night with drink. But that's ok caus it's legal. This is all bullshit and I'm sick of it. People are quick to take the moral high ground. But what if achohol was made illegal tomorrow, but you still had a bottle of wine in the cupboard. Would you pour it down the sink caus you government say it's illegal now. No you fucking wouldn't, you would drink it because it's readily available and you've done it for years. People would soon fall off the soap box if that law was not in their favour. Rant over sorry

Yes, read the full story. It could not have been any better if we wrote it. The Arrest was when he was pulled over for speeding in March 10th. He did a turn around on his position and claims to be a champion for medical marijuana. Anyone in that district should hold him to that promise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Katz_%28politician%29

The arrest he faced “didn’t change anything other than make me decide that I was going to not only be a champion for medical marijuana, and for its total legalization, I was going to become part of the wave that’s building in the industry itself. ;It’s a great feeling. It’s very liberating;.”

I must say I am a little bothered by politicians who only drop their hate agendas when they find themselves or their children on the receiving end of said hate. Fairness and justice are only important when it is their lives that are directly effected. I find that kind of thinking pretty disgusting...

I plan on reminding these legislators of this too. Often. This type of familiarity problem needs to be addressed when ANY law that is being created or repealed. It is always the 'other persons' family that is the problem. It is a disconnect you can drive a truck through. How many times we seen this type of hypocrisy? It is those who are the most disenfranchised that end up being the scapegoat for our problems that we honestly are equally vulnerable of. :ugh: We make the exceptions for our selves, because we feel that we are responsible enough to discern the difference, but not for those whom we never met. and the beat goes on......

Yea plus illegal growers rely on food growth chemicals, which has another environmental impact. CA has passed some legislation to regulate water for legal growers with things like proper irrigation and other environmentally friendly measures. One of the DEA's biggest beef with illegal farms is impact, if you read their pdf file from their website. Look's like that has been addressed with CA. When things are above board, you can approach the growers directly with these issues. Something to consider, if you want pot growing to reach legitimacy.

I feel your pain. Hope you can lead by example and have a proper business model, Instead of a place run like a third rate comic book store. :tup:That is pathetic considering, at the very least they can buy a cheap usb microscope and do a simple inspection for spores and mildew. There is enough people who have a passion, like yourself who could have been employed at these places and rise a tide that would lift all boats. Plus there is so many other models from other states to refer to. I have heard of this problem from other sources and can see this even being more salt for you, especially if you want to make an impact for medical patients. Just when we could use some credibility. Also I have never met a person who hasn't helped me with MJ, who didn't give me any free advice for growing. There is some retail MJ like say Willie's Reserve that might put these practices to shame and set some sort of baseline for quality. I hope anyway.

Perhaps a Co-op model might set some sort of standard too. Educate those who are eager to show up for work and a desire to educate the public. Food Co-ops have had a huge impact with what the chain food stores now carry. Our local Co-op hires college students who are passionate about their knowledge. Sometimes, I get academic level knowledge from them in certain cases. Also a lot of people who are into alternative medicine are employed. I say come up with a new much needed business model and buyers will catch on.
There really is no proper excuse to sell a bad product with the general knowledge base available everywhere. Fuck those amateur posers.

Okay It nearly 12 hours since my last post. Here is an article from the Weedblog. Dispensaries and above board sellers, please police yourselves. You are under the microscope and you don't want to be the bad egg that ruins the omelet. There is food inspectors in every state, I believe. If I could and had enough knowledge, I'd become some sort of voluntary MJ inspector with a criteria for quality and offer advice. I would even show up with a clip board and proper attire. We need to legitimize this and appear professional.
