Possibly 5 YEARS for what was previously a 90 day misdemeanor? I don't even know where to began with this. How does help anything? :disgust:
This is wrong on so many levels. Here is the link to her web site. It doesn't make sense after reading this, Rivers supports bill to clarify, tighten recreational-marijuana rules.
I do not know where she is coming from. :uhh:

I'm hoping the the new medical marijuana laws and the felony for minors will be changed in 2016. The legislature had so much to take care of, some of the issues were hurried through IMO. It's important that we stay vigilant here in WA state. The med cannabis needs to be reasonably priced and we need to be able to get the medicine that works for our health problems.

Most folks that I've talked to aren't interested in signing into the registry, it's just not worth it. The law makers made this registry and med cannabis bill so horrible it's not worth having to sign into a registry. If I bought $100 of bud I would get $10 off in sales tax, I would still have to pay the 37% in other taxes.

If folks live within an hour of the Oregon boarder it's worth it maybe to cross over the boarder. I will have to make some travel plans come October.

I really wanted to think that was the obvious answer too. If I was a parent in Idaho, regardless of my position on MJ, I'd be up in arms. It's not worth the can of worms that she would be re-opening. :worms: Yes, her prisons would be making criminals out of kids and have the return rate associated with that. Point taken!

But, It seems even that much more absurd when compared to the other MJ legislation she is supporting on her web site. I have half a mind to leave a post on her site and demand an explanation. There has to be an even bigger disconnect than that. IMO, I thinks she likes the crack cocaine and needs the harder criminals. :razz:

Private prisons are a cash cow.Private companies rake in billions of dollars in revenue each year through the United States’ inmate population.

In fact, this trend is so widespread that it has its own term: the prison-industrial complex.

Critical Resistance, a national grassroots organization working to dismantle the prison-industrial complex, defines the complexquite elegantly:

“The prison industrial complex (PIC) is a term we use to describe the overlapping interests of government and industry that use surveillance, policing, and imprisonment as solutions to economic, social and political problems.”

Corporations can benefit from the prison-industrial complex in several ways. Many, including technology and food companies, do so through contract prison labor.

Starbucks, through subcontractor Signature Packaging Solutions, has hired Washington state prisoners to package holiday coffees. Sprint has used inmates in call centers. Inmates have sewn Victoria’s Secret products(including the “Made in USA tags).

Not only is this behavior completely legal, but it’s also quite easy and actually encouraged by government policy. Under the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC),employers receive a $2,400 tax credit for every work-release inmate they employ, as a reward for hiring “risky target groups.”

This process is called “insourcing,”and companies who participate in it are free to avoid paying for benefits such as health insurance or sick days, and don’t have to bother with pesky issues like unions, vacation requests, or flexible work requests.

Thanks for the article. Same cast of characters I see. Since election time is critical on this subject. Time for me to follow the money. It wasn't too long ago when Victoria's Secret's was found to use child labor. Haven't had time to check the credibility or rationality of this site. Just kept finding sources for more sources. It's simply slave labor, and it's seen by big biz as a way to compete with the third world. I see it as a criminal "race to the bottom". We should be trying to lift up the third world, not competing with them with railroaded prisoners, many of whom couldn't afford to pay the unjust fines levied on them for being homeless. It's also why we lock these people up when it would be cheaper to house and care for them.

@CuckFumbustion, candidate hillary has brought this issue up recently as needing urgent attention.

Glad any candidate is bringing it to the debate. However, She did very little as Former S.O.S with Gitmo, so I remain skeptical. Admitting, It is a tiger by the tail scenario, But that was Obama's platform during the first election. We have to hold politicians feet to the fire the first day after the election, if we genuinely want results. They will say anything to attract voters towards their camp. So remain skeptical. Hillary had the power and clout as third in line to solve many of these problems before the election. Sounds too calculating, like recently with the now infamous Martin Shkreli. It helps to have a longer memory than the politicians. :nod:

Reminds me of how easily King George III was influenced by his Loyals. Want to know his opinion on something? Ask the last person who talked to him.:razz:

Jury convicts Miami man who says he grew pot for cancer-stricken wife

MIAMI (Reuters) - A Miami jury convicted a man who faces up to 35 years in prison for growing marijuana in a bedroom of his house in what he says was an act of love to help his wife who is recovering from breast cancer, local media reported.

Ricardo Varona, 43, was arrested in July 2014 and charged with marijuana trafficking after police said they seized 15 live marijuana plants that could have produced more than 30 pounds of usable weed.

In closing arguments on Friday, Varona's lawyer, Jose Aguirre, told jurors in Miami state court that detectives did not find any money ledgers, drug scales or packaging equipment at Varona's house that would show he was selling pot for money.

"They want you to believe he is Pablo Escobar and Walter White," Aguirre said, referring to the deceased Colombian cocaine baron and the drug dealing protagonist of the TV series "Breaking Bad."

"All he was trying to do was give his wife the medicine she needs."

Prosecutors also failed to prove the actual weight of the plants, Aguirre added.

Prosecutors said Varona had set up lights to mimic the sun, air filters to mask the pungent odor, and fans to cool the operation, local media reported. The size of it was far more than could ever be consumed by one person, they argued, estimating the plants' value at $90,000.

"He was helping out his wife and he was helping out his wallet," said prosecutor David Emas.

Florida last year legalized a low-potency strain of medical marijuana to treat severe epilepsy though it has yet to select approved state growers. A petition is being organized to widen medical marijuana usage in the state.

Aguirre said his client faced a maximum of 35 years in prison if found guilty.

More than 20 states have passed laws legalizing medical marijuana in recent years, while a handful of others such as Colorado also allow recreational use of the drug.

Maria Varona told jurors during the trial she has to make the costly trip to Colorado to get marijuana edibles and pills.

Although her cancer is in remission, she continues to require cannabis edibles due to the prevalence of the disease in her family, she told the court.

The prosecutor accused Varona's wife of lying on the stand. "She is covering up for her husband," he said. "Who can blame her?"

2 pounds per plant? Phooey. More like 2 to 4 ounces. $90,000 for 15 plants? Dream on. Maybe $5000. The whole case is preposterous. The equipment they described - a light, carbon filter, one fan for the filter and one to cool the light - is standard equipment for a small medical grow in CA. I myself have similar equipment.

What they found in this case was consistent with a small medical grow, and the lady is a cancer patient. If they had more than one area with different amounts of darkness per 24 hr cycle (ie veg and flower areas), and two or more lights, it could be consistent with a small cottage industry producing maybe 8 oz and at a stretch up to 1 lb per month. BFD. Why lock him up? He's not exactly a menace to society.

Or how much it costs to house him for a single year, much less 35 years. I was about to ask how many plants but they failed to weight it. Maybe, He might be able to use that as a loophole?

I actually emailed my Congressman in my district about this and urged him to sign this. I pointed out two articles relating to asset forfeiture abuse. All though, His response will probably sound more like the Floridian prosecutor's argument then the property rights he claims to represent. Will be prepared to give him a counter argument and vote him out of office next term, if he is a complete tool about it. Here's the Open Congress site if you are urged to get your representatives to vote for this. I also urged him to write a bill to remove all types of Asset Forfeiture. Also mentioned that it is a form of Highway Robbery and that patients who are simply driving home with their medicine could have their assets seized by the feds under current conditions.
You don't have to be in favor of Medical Marijuana to be opposed the DEA imposing control over the states rights. Which was my central point.

"I can only tell you that this was not the intention that the governor had when working with legislators on this bill," Inslee spokeswoman Jaime Smith said.

Smith said parties had agreed at the time that keeping marijuana out of the hands of minors was a priority, "but there are other ways to do that without charging them with felonies."

The governor can't change the law himself, but lawmakers could when they meet for the 2016 legislative session.

Rick Laws, an Asotin County public defender who represents one of the juveniles, said that doesn't help his client in the meantime.

"That's an awfully high price for a few people to have to pay for faulty legislative work," he said.

Nichols said if the law is changed, anyone convicted would have to return to court and ask to have that conviction vacated.

Marijuana will destroy these kids lifes, so lets lock these kids up and put felonies on their records that, yes, will make it harder for them to find a decent job and screw up their future quite effectively, but we're protecting them

1 in 3 get a form of cancer.
1 in 5 die from cancer.
Your government needs you to die. We are already struggling with the population explosion. People living longer, claiming pensions longer. Clogging up the system.
You think your government can handle another 20 % living.
I'm convinced that secret population culling happens. Maybe when we are children and get immunised, 1 in 5 gets a mutation that will later caus cancer. I'm sure hiv was man made to control the African population. We will never really know what's really going on and I hate that. Conspiracy theory over

Oh and I know you yanks have an alien and a ship...... and never went to the moon.

It would be nice if one of the candidates, seeking to distinguish his or herself, came out for taking it off the federal schedule. Once one says it the others have a way of taking it up. Dream on I guess but how many more people have to get busted? This is cruel and stupid.
