inadequate regulations that result in dangerous crap peddled to anyone with money, including teenagers
precisely. states that have legalized cannabis have different regulations so trustworthiness of test results is an issue (I noticed that one producer's products here in wa. all seemed to have the exact same THC % - if that isn't fishy, what is?). I imagine the states are watching each other to see what works and what doesn't, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for popular demand to motivate lawmakers to tackle this issue; I imagine they're perfectly happy to reap the taxes from cannabis sales and aren't getting swamped with taxpayer letters asking them to improve the testing system.

I don't really put much faith in lab tests. I trust certain extractors though. Keep in mind, concentrates aren't the only thing that can be contaminated. There's dirty flower for sale out there too.

If the government is gonna slap double digit taxes on cannabis, why can't they use that money to set up their own labs to test products? For profit labs seem like the worst way to do it. We don't have a privatized USDA making sure our meat is safe. Because they'd absolutely get paid off by big agribusiness. I'm sure that sort of shit happens with these cannabis testing labs.

The only silver lining from concentrate panic is...maybe this will push more people to buy hash rosin. Ice water, heat, and pressure. No chemicals needed.

I have looked for this but not found any around here.

It’s sometimes sold as Live Rosin. But I think part of the problem is the pricing in Illinois. Isn’t BHO already outrageously expensive there? Hash rosin is far more labor intensive and commands a higher price point than solvent stuff. I wonder if extractors are shying away from it because they’d have to sell grams for $150.

I've seen grams around here (mi) for $80 but there's not a lot ime. It's a premium price for sure.

Basically it's $30 to 80 in my immediate area for concentrates. Maybe $25 for rso or a distillate.

Funny enough, up until recently in FL there was no butane stuff. Just rosin and ethanol. So every real concentrate head was forced to buy rosin.

And yeah, it was generally about $80/g without discounts. Prices are starting to come down a bit now thankfully.

I guess it's better than nothing. But legalizing banking for cannabis businesses without decriminalizing cannabis itself...honestly sounds about right from our government. The Feds just gave a guy a life sentence for doing the same thing big weed corporations are making millions doing.

Yeah, yeah they don't have the votes for decriminalization. But I haven't heard the Democrats making a full court press for it either. The majority of Americans across the political spectrum support legalization. We saw the fucking stupid arguments prohibitionists were making on the House floor. If you can't make political hay out of this issue, maybe it's time to admit you're just not very good at politics.

These articles show that competition is hurting some established growers, presumably indoor growers. Haven't been able to find the same low prices I found here in the OKC area a couple of months ago. I contacted the owner of one nursery I've been watching, he's not gonna have more sungrown to market for a couple of months. Maybe a flood of inexpensive strong sungrown weed will hit when the normal growing season ends in September/October. France has the Beaujolais festival, I'm waiting for the Sungrown harvest celebration....:brow:

They may be coming for us soon.

There's nothing in the Constitution about cannabis, so Congress can't pass any bill decriminalizing cannabis.

Just wait until some lady miscarries and subsequently tests positive for THC. That will be booked as a murder charge. The Prohibitionists will go wild. New THINK OF THE CHILDREN™ Level unlocked.

Interesting article. It's a new day with legal vaping of (increasingly affordable, super-strong) cannabis around the clock. The author does mention teens and vape cartridges when talking about some of the problems. Back when I was more stupid than now, the old litmus test used to be whether or not smoking weed causes cancer. I was lucky to have a joint of mediocre dirt weed each day when a teen. I pity the fool that thinks it won't affect him/her. It affects me....:hmm::leaf::myday:

Interesting article.
Yes it is as it's looks like another hit job from MSM. Quotes below are from the actually study.

Objective To evaluate the association between cannabis use and respiratory-related emergency room (ER) visits and hospitalisations.

Our primary outcome, odds of respiratory-related ER visits or hospitalisations, was not significantly greater among cannabis users than the the control group in either the overall cohort, or in any of our sensitivity analyses.

ETA: The question remains, are the CNN reporters this fucking stupid or who is paying for this misinformational reporting?

The article is pretty clear and simple. Unless the author is lying, there is reportedly a 22% higher rate of ER visits, mostly from injury accidents, but also including the full range of damage associated with vaping products. It's not surprising, probably shouldn't upset anyone.

The data probably isn't granular enough to differentiate between combustion, vaping various concentrates, vaping straight flower, etc. Each individual user can assess the personal risk however they choose, and more data should be helpful compared to less data.

Hopefully, teenage gamers who feel compelled to buy AR-15s on their 18th birthday, are able to manage the intense psychoactive effects of strong cannabis 24/7.

I pity the fool that underestimates the psychological effects.

Again from the actual study...

WHAT THIS STUDY ADDS

  • Our population-based, retrospective, propensity score matched cohort study, involving 15 202 individuals and extensive covariate adjustment, showed no significant difference in the frequency of respiratory-related emergency room visits or hospitalisations between cannabis users (3.6%) and never-users (3.9%), but all-cause emergency room visits or hospitalisations were significantly greater among cannabis users (30.0% vs 26.0%). Respiratory-related reasons were the second leading aetiology for all-cause ER visits and hospitalisations among cannabis users.
Emphasis mine ^^^

The study set out to find a link between cannabis use and respiratory related ER visits and they found "no significant difference in the frequency of respiratory-related emergency room... "

The last bit quoted above really is special. Let's have a wee look at that;
The "all-cause emergency room visits or hospitalisations were significantly greater among cannabis users (30.0% vs 26.0%..."

CNN math 30%-26% = 25%
Real math = 4% but wait it gets way better.

"Respiratory-related reasons were the second leading aetiology for all-cause ER visits and hospitalisations among cannabis users."
In other words, the second leading cause of all ER visits and hospitalizations is respiratory related which the study already determined was not was not significantly greater among cannabis users.
I hope I'm not the only one who sees a problem here. 4% of fuck all is what they have. If we solve for fuck all we find 4% of fuck all is exactly fuck all.

"respiratory-related emergency room visits or hospitalisations between cannabis users (3.6%) and never-users (3.9%),"

Separating "respiratory-related" admissions from other admissions will decrease the numbers. In addition to lung damage, some folks have goofy accidents around the house, operating machinery, car accidents, etc.

Personally, I think the long term psychological impact might be a bigger factor today, all things considered, and this might not cause any ER visits.

Here's a government article which highlights the categories of risk.

https://www.samhsa.gov/marijuana.

Personally, I believe that vaping flower is about as safe as it gets, but there are probably risks associated with that as well. I'm not worried about myself, but I have descendents and there are a few hundred million others. Excessive cannabis use definitely makes folks argumentative.....

Also in that study they considered a person a cannabis user if they consumed cannabis once in the last 12 months.... They've got some really good shit in Ontario if the weed is to blame if I smoked 6 months ago but today I had a DIY accident that sent me to the ED.

Excessive cannabis use definitely makes folks argumentative.....
No it fucking doesn't!😉

This type of thing will happen so long as we have profit driven news media. They need clicks to sell to advertisers. The headline makes it sound like there's something deadly in cannabis causing ER visits. No. Like @Planck pointed out, there is no evidence consuming cannabis puts you at a significant risk at having a respiratory emergencies vs non consumers.

There is an increase in physical injuries. I guess the lesson is, be careful when consuming inebriating drugs. Thanks for that breaking news, CNN. I wonder what the numbers would be on booze. Or all those suburban moms who think weed is evil, driving around in 8,000 pound SUV's, filled to the gills with various prescription antidepressants and painkillers.

I feel like every one of these studies is just demonstrating why cannabis should be legal. In order to make an argument about the dangers of cannabis, you have to squint at the data and even then the results aren't very alarming at all. Compare that to alcohol or opioids. I don't need to squint at data to tell me they're dangerous...I can just count the corpses.

Yes, being a teetotaler is safer than consuming any drugs. But I haven't met a teetotaler who isn't at least a little deranged. If you can take living in this insane society straight with no chaser...I'm immediately suspicious of you.

Accident victims might be more likely to go to the ER than chronic disease victims. I wouldn't want anyone to know but I've had some ridiculous injuries when stoned. There was that time I drilled a hole most of the way through my finger, for example. I remember thinking how stoned I was literally 10-20 seconds beforehand. I could go on. :spliff:

If someone is seen drinking a beer, society wouldn't immediately label them an alcoholic. But if someone is seen with a joint or vape pen, they are automatically a stoner or a drugie.
Same goes for the movie industry. If you land your first part in a movie, they call you an actor. If you land a roll in just one porn movie, they automatically call you a star. Not fair.

The article is all bullshit.

Cloned H-E-B truck hauling pot 'a very professional job'

Fake truck had real cargo, but it wasn’t legalDPS seizes ‘cloned’ truck, more than 2 tons of marijuana

The abandoned 18-wheeler found at a northeast Houston truck stop appeared to be part of the H-E-B supermarket chain’s transport fleet.

But investigators on Monday didn’t find a load of fresh produce bound for grocery store shelves when they opened the door. Instead, they uncovered more than 4,400 pounds of marijuana wrapped in tight plastic bundles.

H-E-B officials said they have a ready explanation: The 18-wheeler doesn’t belong to them, regardless of its rather impressive disguise.
“We have no record of that truck at all,” said Cyndy Garza-Robert, a spokeswoman for the San Antonio-based company.

DPS officials said the truck was made up to resemble one of H-E-B’s legitimate long-haul carriers. Called “cloning,” the tactic is fast becoming a favorite for narcotics traffickers hoping to avoid law enforcement scrutiny on the freeways.

“This one was extremely detailed. It would pass almost anyone’s inspection as being an H-E-B truck,” said Lt. Dan Webb, with the Texas Department of Public Safety. “The Mexican (drug) cartels have a lot of sophistication when it comes to cloning. They do their research. They do a very professional job.”

The tractor-trailer rig was spotted at a truck stop near McCarty and the East Loop — in a heavily industrial part of Houston where heavy vehicles are a common sight. An employee called H-E-B after noting that the truck had been left unattended for at least 24 hours.

“We had the vehicle towed and ran a check,” Garza-Robert said. “We discovered that the truck, in fact, was not part of our fleet.”

H-E-B officials said they immediately notified law enforcement officials, who then impounded the truck.

“It looked very authentic,” Garza-Robert said. “It had everything.”

Investigators don’t know why the truck was abandoned. It didn’t have mechanical problems.

DPS said H-E-B has fully cooperated with them in their ongoing investigation. “We’ve got some suspects, no arrests at this point,” Webb said.

The marijuana in the bogus H-E-B truck would have been either broken down into smaller loads or transported on to other cities, DPS officials said.

“Almost everything that comes across the border comes through Houston,” Webb said.

The cache was worth about $1.8 million, officials said.

“Whenever a load is lost that large, someone is going to pay dearly,” Webb said. “I wouldn’t want to be them — or their families.”

H-E-B isn’t the only business hit by the truck-cloning narcotics traffickers.

“You just about name it,” Webb said, “and they’ve cloned it” — including a school bus and a UPS truck.

Well, well, fucking well. I notice this is a cannabis study CNN and the NYT didn't feel the need to opine about. Science says weed literally makes you a better person:

It turns out, that young adults with recent marijuana use had better scores on standardized measurements of pro-social behaviors, empathy and moral decision-making based on principles of securing harmlessness and a sense of fairness. The study is among the first to reveal cannabis benefits on young adults' psychosocial functioning.

Someone also needs to tell that Nazi woman on Fox News that the study also discovered there is no evidence cannabis makes people angrier or more hostile. So much for her dumbfuck theory that school shootings are due to weed.

Here's a link to the study if you want to peruse it.
