Boundless Tera

I just recieved my Tera from PIU. First off the WPA isn’t even close to being a good fit. Hell its not even a bad fit. I’m not sure it was even made for this device it’s so far off from it. The smell/taste I’m getting from a cold unit(I’m still charging battery’s)is the same smell the entire packaging has. It’s a very strong smell.

I’m going to do some burn offs with some weed in it to try and absorbe some of the odors. Then I might have a go at it if I can get it past that smell/taste. I really hope I get it going because it’s a bad ass “little” dual 18650 vape. At least that’s the way it feels in my hand. You see I hate to ship shit. Hell I promised a good friend over a year and a half ago that I was going to give him a different vape I didn’t care for but I’ve been too fucking lazy to actually ship the fucking thing. Sorry about that Phatts.

Burn offs with herb in it? You should do the burn off with nothing in it so you can see if it is off-gassing. If there’s herb in the unit then you won’t know if it’s herb vapor coming out or chemical fumes.

Don’t worry my first couple will. I should of said that to begin with. I guess I was more referring to getting it out of that new vape smell almost all of these types have to deal with.

seems like there's less than a dozen bad units, why is everyone shitting their pants as if every single unit is going to kill babies?

seriously can we get a show of hands?
who has:
A: Stinky Tera
B: Normal Tera
C: Just a bunch of opinions

B. Normal Tera

Had mine for exactly a week now (shoutout to @PuffItUp )

Was going to give it another week before a review...... but ill just say my Tera has been nothing short of amazing!!

I did one burn off (concentrate mode) and blew through the bottom of the air intake for the duration of the session timer. No fumes of any kind. Slight robot fart smell (as can be expected) but it dissipated quick.

More details to come but just want to say that not all Teras are bad. I hope everyone with issues get everything resolved though! I can totally understand the frustration.

Can't wait for a vid @ohmygodimsohigh !!

Do burn offs without weed in it first. The smell you described is more of a ''new car'' thing that goes away pretty fast hopefully.

And the heater should be the temperature that the monitor says at the very least. Air drawn is less than the core temp from the heater at first but should normalize inside the bowl pretty quickly. Once air is being drawn, the vape heats up more to keep the temperature constant. You can tell this is happening by pressing the button and checking the current temperature after a draw. If it reads higher than what you have it set at, that's the reason.

Also the WPA is pretty bad but it does work. Hopefully they get a redesigned wpa to us though. I just leave that in my rig and pull the vape on and off when using it.

Such a high failure rate can't be blamed on CNY and rushing workers - the assembly process itself seems to be the cause. Anybody knows the real production conditions for those workers? better or worse than apple/foxcon?

DISCLAIMER: I do not have a Tera (yet) since I qualify for a CFV upgrade.

Regardless, do you have actual numbers that show a high failure rate? So far, people with problems have spoken out, but how do we know the failure rate????

People who are satisfied don't complain (except about WPA).

There have been folks who got units from @PuffItUp that were fine and some stinky. That does not sound like the whole first batch of Teras had the problem.

No, only the manufacturers have such numbers and they won't publish them, but that is a general thing. Agreed i should have written in conjunctive ;) it is speculation as in many other threads, but there should have been more positive feedback mixed in otherwise... - it just sucks opening a new vape, look at it for 2secs and pack it up again.
@lookhigh - don't worry, my reply from vaposhop took also a few days longer than usual, seems like they have more to do than usual since the tera came out.... :p

Ok I was doing some burn offs with the highest heat setting which is 500F and I was seeing like some light steam or some sort. Is that off gassing?

A little off gassing is normal process. As long as it doesnt last too long. If after one session of a full burn off the smoke is still there then you may have a problem.

People saying to return it may not know that a little off gassing is normal.

I just realized there seems to be a threshold amongst vapers.

You seem fine with plastic scorching. To me any burnt smell is an instant fail.

I’m not talking about the smell that comes off a metal as it oxidizes or case plastic off gassing. I’m talking about sealant in places it should not be burning off.

Or you are confusing off gassing with scorching.

I agree, I think many here are returning good units just because they see some steam during burn offs while blowing through the air intake and putting a light on it... they do that after seeing someone suggesting it because they don't know any better.. I was also about to return mine for that reason, but then I tried it on other vapes and saw the same effect, which made me realize it's normal. But since Boundless won't clarify anything in that regard, people will rather be safe than sorry and return their units.

When you get a new vape (any vape) it is suggested to run a burn off session because they all have oil and crap used for packing at the very least. You want to run a good first burn off and then it should be gone for good. This is normal with every vape. The person before wasnt talking about ''sealant'' he was speaking of normal off gassing from a first use.

Scorching and off gassing both cause gasses to form in case you were wondering. Unless you know for sure by looking inside, you have no idea what is being burned off, but if it stopped after the first burnoff, you know it's how its supposed to act.

If you go through one session at 500f and there is no more gass afterwords when you try to do it again, your unit is fine and that is as intended.

Agreed. But if you do that “burn off” and it smells like anything other than hot metal or a bit of finger oil something is wrong.

To be fair, in a product this inexpensive it’s not uncommon to see high failure rates.

This is true, but its also not uncommon to have defective units on the first few production runs. That goes for alot of products, atleast the ones that need quality control. Their sample size in QC in this case was too small.
I wouldnt think of this product as inexpensive though. While The Crafty and Mighty are of proper plastic, its still plastic. If that works for an expensive S&B product then the materials on the Tera dont bug me alot.
The heater from what I can tell is pretty powerfull. I'm not going to switch and will wait for 420vapezone's video on this vape.

I just tried a burn off on my new replacement unit from PIU. I started out on flower mode and went up to 428f. Constant stream of fumes that smell like burning plastic for a few minutes. I then switched to concentrate mode, 500f, and the stream became thicker and lasted the whole 5 minute session. My whole room reeks of this burnt plastic smell, it gets to the point where I’m afraid it’s going to set off my smoke alarm.

I’ll try it again tonight but this seems to be exactly how my first unit was. My oven looks to be centered and this unit also has a QC PASS sticker on it.

Quite disappointed at this point. If the fumes don’t stop pouring out on my next burn-off I think I’m just going to return it and wait to buy a new Tera until this issue is resolved.

Planet of the Vapes (POTV) is recalling all the devices they sold
Someone shared the email that they sent, see below

Important Information regarding your Boundless Tera

Hello!

Over the weekend it was brought to our attention that there have been multiple reports of off-gassing and unpleasant smells coming from several Tera Vaporizers. We tested a brand new Tera this afternoon and we observed visible off-gassing as well.

We are in touch with Boundless and currently waiting for more information on the scope of this problem. Your health and safety are extremely important to us, so we are asking that you refrain from using your device and return it to our warehouse. We will be sending you a prepaid USPS label tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, we would like to offer you a few options on how we can proceed.

We would be more than happy to help you find a different vaporizer that suits your needs. If you would like to exchange for a different unit we would like to offer you a 20% discount on any vape that we carry.

If not, we can issue you a full refund on your order.

We will keep you updated as we know more, Boundless will be conducting their own tests this week as well.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. We are very sorry for this inconvenience and hope we can work together to make this right for you!

Sincerely,

POTV

Edit: While on vaporents, just came across another thread about the Boundless CFC, thought I'd share
https://www.reddit.com/r/vaporents/comments/80gdgc/beginner_my_first_vape_i_hope_i_chose_wisely/
Someone just bought it and the rest are warning the poor guy about the melting mouthpiece (which also happened to me twice before I got rid of it). Boundless keeps selling them, which is a shame because they are selling a product that is bound to break. And now, a similar thing is happening with the Tera. Way to go Boundless! You deserve this shaming.. maybe for you next device you will finally learn?
