Well, crap.
After reading the frankly disturbing reports of units emitting smoke at working temperature, I heated mine up to 220C, waited 30 seconds and blew a light stream of air from a fish tank air pump at the intake on the bottom. Shining a flashlight at a slight upward angle near the top of the Tera I could see a wispy but steady stream of smoke rising from the chamber. Smoke continued to rise out of the chamber until the Tera did its 5 minute shutdown thing.
I waited 15 minutes and repeated the experiment, with the exact same results.
The chamber was completely clean when I started this exercise —I’ve only used the Tera once (last week) since receiving it, and had swabbed the chamber (with the unit inverted) with an iso-moistened q-tip after use. I had run several burn-off cycles at 175C when I initially received the Tera before using it, but didn’t look for smoke or evidence of outgassing at that time.
I loved my CFX, and had been waiting eagerly for the Tera's release, but I’m not comfortable with the idea of inhaling anything else from this unit until this issue is resolved.
The ceramic piece below the screen at the bottom of the chamber does not appear to be centered on my unit.
I’ve emailed the nice folks at POTV to ask what my options are. Hoping for the best.
Somewhat impulsively I gave my CFX away to a broke, vape-less friend after my initial session with the Tera, so I guess it’s back to my humble little Magic-Flight until I see how this plays out.
