hello DBV users! i was wondering if anyone has bought one of these DB's with a blemish? they are marked down considerably. what do you guys think?

I purchased one directly from 7th Floor and it looks and performs great. It had very minor scratches on the top of the unit; you really have to look carefully to see. I definitely suggest it, well worth the savings without jeopardizing the warranty.

Your only getting a few hits most likely for a couple of reasons.
1. You are probably taking pretty big hits. Since vapor is not smoke, you should hold the vapor in your lungs for at least 10 seconds. So take smaller hits and hold em.
2.You said you are only putting a very small amount, just enough to cover the screen, thats a small bowl. The maximum that you should pack is 1/4 of the entire space above the screen.

Be sure to stir the herb and pack it back down with the marble every few hits, so that it vapes evenly.

I like to keep my dial between 1 and 2 o'clock.

First, turn your unit COMPLETELY OFF and wait for it to cool down, wait about a half an hour. rub some alcohol on the wand and wash your hands so you have the best grip(wait for alc on wand to dry), twist and push and pull firmly but gently. It happens, next time just remove the wand when your not hitting it.

Remember, heat expands, cold constricts.

So what would you say are the + and - of da buddha?

plus:

this think is a tank. built tuff.
quick heat up time 2-3 minutes
very easy to use [short learning curve]
7th floor makes custom wands, mouth pieces, knobs, etc. [got alot of choices and customization]
you can hook a bong up to it [yes i know you can do this with a bunch of vapes, works amazingly well for this purpose, just look at some of the overhead posts]
priced reasonably.

minus:

made in china [this does not bother me. if something works well, i don't give a damn where it's made, but to some it does and i can understand that.]
not the most effecient vape on the market.

Let's say my sweetspot is 10 o' clock. Is the following procedure correct?

I set it on 10 o' clock. I wait 3 minutes and then put the herb in.

I inhale a couple of times. Then I turn it up to 11, inhale a couple of times then turn it up to 12 inhale a couple of times and then turn it off.

How long should I let it "burn" before inhaling the first time?

How do I know when there is no more thc?

Does it matter if I fill it with 0,1 or 0,3 at a time?

I usually wait 15 minutes, as the instructions suggested, or turn it on full blast for 3 minutes, and then down to my preferred spot (1 o'clock for me) and let it cool for 30 seconds or a minute.

I leave it at this setting the whole time unless for some reason I feel its too hot or too cool and draw speed is not enough to compensate.

I do not let it "burn" at all before inhaling. Touch the whip to the element, and go!

There is no more THC when the herb is all tan colored, tastes vaguely like popcorn, and you are not getting high anymore. I quit well before this point; as soon as its no longer tasting good and I am not exhaling visible vapor. If you are low on supply, you might want to go as long as possible. Basically, if you can't tell if you are getting a hit or not, its spent.

It does not matter how much you fill it. It seems that lighter packed bowls burn better and are easier to stir/manage, but obviously require filling much more often. If you want to use the hands-free style and vape many hits, you probably want to pack a larger amount. Alone, I only need 2-4 good hits to be fully vaked so I pack small wands, and usually cannot finish it in one session. I enjoy the taste of a fresh wand so it is in my best interest to pack wands as small as possible.

So if I keep the whip in two freezer bags, people inside the same room shouldnt be able to smell it right? Also does the unit itself smell? And how does the smell of the exhaled vapor compare to the mflb?
thanks

The unit shouldn't smell at all unless you accidentally spill some herb on it, and even then it shouldn't be too bad. Thats why I suggested having a cloth around and to habitually wipe it off. Your fingers might be sticky when you touch the knob, etc. The whip is the only part which should have an odor, and if you clean it religiously it will be very odor-free.

The exhaled vapor from either device can be rather odorous, although not as bad as smoke. With the MFLB, you can excercise discipline and "ghost" hits that are almost undetectable when exhaled. People on this site make a sport of using the MFLB in very public places, like movie theaters. Use caution if you take on this pursuit.

The SSV/DB gives you a lot of control. You can take near flavorless hits that are quite effective and yet very difficult to detect, or you can dial it up for a very rich vapor that fills the room. Again it will not smell as bad as smoke and not be as pervasive, but you can exhale a cloud that smells a lot like very fine fresh herb, if that is what you put into it. It dissipates much more quickly than smoke, and will not leak out under doors etc, but you must still use discretion if you are trying to be stealthy.

The MFLB is definitely the stealthier of the two units, but the SSV is capable of a much richer faux-smoking experience that will give effect and flavor more similar to smoking. I like them both... a great combo.

@cluffy, got an email for richard at 7th floor. says they are no longer making SSV style heater covers for Da Buddha :( anyone got any idea where i can find an international seller for some kinda 'reducer' that i can join with the dbv hc and then use with some kinda mini whip?

Wow, that really sucks. My original idea was to have a glassblower make me an HC but then 7th Floor made one for daddygreenjeans so I just ordered one from them. If you know any glassblowers maybe they can hook you up.

The mini-whips are out of stock at Vapor Bros., but I got an email saying they will have some soon after the 1st of the year. As I said before you can use the mini with the original HC as is but it does put the herb a little farther away from the heat source, any adapter would probably put the herb even farther away. I had to turn up the heat a little bit but nothing drastic.

There's a vid of the mini with the original HC here: http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=201&p=30 plus a lot of information on the pages around it.

I still think the mini is worth having for solo sessions even without the ssv style HC.

ok, i have tried to use the arizer dome screen on the dbv wand with good (great?) success. As good as the most 'efficient' vape in the market? i don't know, wish i had a digital scale to weigh the amount but it is just a pinch. anyway, i thought that if 1 arizer dome screen was good, then how about 2? so i inserted another dome screen into the original dome screen on the wand which made the bowl even slightly smaller. loaded a tiny amount into the double dome bowl, not even enough for a rasta mouse and got a good 4 hits off it! nice! :)

now i can take small bowl hits with the dome screen, or take big hits using the normal bowl. anyone who wants to try the dome screen please remember to use it NON-hands free (as the dome may get stuck in the hc if you fit the wand in the hc like normal use), turn down the temp (because the herb is much closer to the heating element, i use the minimum power level) and pull medium speed and stir after every hit. also because so little herb is used, don't worry about covering the screen, just pack the herb tight into the bowl like a pancake so the herb won't spill.

@Nycdeisel - i wanted to check if i could recover some tube 'freshness' cause international shipping charges that i was quoted is slightly over usd30, when the cost of the 20ft tubing is just usd14.49, that is ridiculous  and will be my last option. overseas buyers really pay a lot for shipping. maybe i will try boiling the tube with water added with chinese tea, see if that can get the smell off a bit. i'm still searching for local medical tubes. if i can't find, then i'll have to order.

i don't have any sophisticated measuring equipment and this is not a scientific test, just my observation on using my unit. when i pack about 1/4 of the normal bowl, i get about 10 hits. thing is, when i pack my arizer dome screen dbv wand, i use only about 30-40% of the 1/4 bowl and i also get 10 hits* (subjective, depends on person), good hits that really zones me out (and i use brick herb). less seems to be more, i don't know why (actually, i'm just happy with the result and couldn't be bothered). anyway, i haven't really used the normal dbv bowl ever since i got the dome screen attachment. the dome screen really ups the efficiency stakes for the dbv and allows me to use just a dash to get to me desired level. i tried using even less that this when i don't want to get too high, just buzzed.

yeah, like FLskwat and some others, we find that the dbv allows for easy mods that really ups the efficiency factor for the unit. i used to mix tobacco with mj for my joints last time to conserve but now i don't even think about reusing my avb or cleaning my wand to get the hash because i am using so little (plus, i prefer clean wands). these days, i only use the normal dbv bowl when i have friends around or when i mix 'the herb' with other herbs.

SUMMARY of the arizer dome screen mod (thank you to other mod users for contribution):
this mod for the dbv/ssv is not for everyone, some just prefer the normal style hits. of course, you can load your ssv/dbv normal bowl and take a bit, save the rest for later but it's just more fun finishing the bowl! So for those who wanna mod their dbv with the dome screen and encounter issues, please remember that there is a learning curve as well, just need some fine tuning.

issues:

1. Much easier to combust as the herb is closer to the heater - if you use normal temp like a normal wand, it will turn black/combust real fast as it is now much closer to the heater. please try vaping at lower temps. i vape using the dome screen at minimum temp, just above the opening 'click' of my dbv. you may want to slightly increase temp after a few hits.

2. The Dome screen can easily become stuck in the end of the female GG connection. Fixing this is a pain. -

for the dbv: yes, you have to use it hands free + lightly, don't push the wand in too tight (no hands free, no forcing into the hc). And the steel mesh is somewhat 'flexible' so the dome screen gets looser after a few times of inserting/removing from the wand and easier for it to get stuck in the hc. Just 'tighten' it when it is in the wand by pressing the inside of the steel mesh of the dome screen 'outwards'. this clamps the screen tighter to the wand, and will minimise chances of it getting stuck in the hc. even then, sometimes when i am high i forget and jam the damn thing up the hc!

for the ssv, pre shape the dome screen to fit the wand firmly, and only do this on standard wand! according to FLskwat, the dome screen fits even better with the SSV (edge to edge with the wand, no "separation") than the dbv (though it still works good with the dbv). Check posts #1442 to #1446 for the ssv (picture there):
http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=3&p=58

3. packing the bowl and stirring - pack enough to cover the screen, not too much and because you are using so little herb you can pack it tight like a pancake! So, no worries about herb spilling (or even if you don't fill the whole of the screen because it is so close to the heater). and i stir once every 4 hits. so with about 8-9 hits* i stir maybe once/twice every session. stir slowly n carefully cause 1-2 pieces of herb falling out could mean 10-20% less of dome bowl load.

note that Flskwat commented somewhere "don't pack the dome screen too tight or too full, and as always with the ssv, inhale fast/hard while constantly moving the wand". no need to pack full, less is more in this case! i got no issue with the packing tight though, please try either way.

4. good for sharing between 2 people? not really, in my opinion the dome screen mod is best used solo. comparatively, 1 normal load is maybe about 3-4 dome screen loads.

5. pricing - i have seen it sold for between usd5-9 for 2 dome screens. the screen quality is good so it will last quite awhile. http://www.vaporizerkits.com/products/Arizer-Mesh-Screen-Pack.html

here are some pics where i load about 20-25% of the arizer dome on my dbv and i think you can get about 8-10 hits* depending on how a person pulls. my unit turns on at about 7.40 so i just leave it at about 8-8.30 for the whole session. pack the herb tight like a pancake and depending on preference, stir every hit or my choice now is to stir every 3-4 hits. experiment and try for yourself.

* after using the dbv for some months now, my preferred hits are much longer so i average maybe 4-6 hits instead. note that the number of hits is very subjective and depends on the breathe & hitting technique of the individual.

Another SSV user lurking... See you've been talking about the mini-whip. I was turned on to it a few months after getting my SSV and I've barely used my standard wand since, at least not for solo sessions.
You get a greater amount of thicker hits off small amounts than you do with the standard (which certainly has the ability to deliver bigger overall hits, but not if you're only using a little bit) and the whole session seems to last longer. I always get too vaked to remember to count the hits or how long its been though :ko:

Edit: As mentioned above I think a lot of it has to do with your starting temperature. When I began using the mini-whip I noticed I could get nice, visibly thick hits from around 9 o'clock onwards, whereas it wasn't until about 12 o'clock that you get the same from the standard wand.

Love my Dabudda and my SSV...have a few other vaps.

I would love to hear a direct comparison between the DBV and the SSV, especially if the SSV is a handsfree. Do you prefer one to the other? Does one hit better? Thinking about picking up a SSV based on how much I love my new DBV.

I've tested both intensively and chose an SSV. I like the hand free feature as it immitates smoking ritual and gets my 2 hands occupied + it allows an increased control level on the direction of your hot air hitting the bowl: you just choose the exact location you wanna hit in your bowl. On the DBV, the whole surface of the bowl (wider then the SSV) will be in contact with the hot air. I like the fact my MJ is not percolating when I'm not hitting it. I like the angle of the HC which will "secure" newbie's usage (no way to get the material in the HC), and makes a lot of sense (that thing called gravity... :D ). I really like the higher vape to air ratio of my SSV because of a narrower air-path. And yes, to me, SSV hits are bigger/thicker then on the DBV I've tested (though the DBV had very very respectful hits, no doubt!)

Do these differences justify the price delta? I think that is the only question you have to answer!

FLskwat,
Hi all. This is my first and probably only post here. I was just reading through this topic and read about folks having problems with blowback on Da Buddha and I thought I would share my solution. Instead of screwing around with a screen to prevent someone from blowing herb into the heating element, I used a one way check valve that allows air to flow in one direction only. It goes right inline with the whip and is small enough to not be an eyesore.

does that impair air flow?

No. It opens with 1/2 a pound of pressure. Which means you can draw as lightly as you want and it will still open. And it doesn't restrict air flow if you want to take a big draw.
I should mention though, when the valve is new the diaphragm in it is kind of stiff. But just playing with the airflow through it with my lungs for less than 5 minutes broke it in just fine. At first slow, light hits didn't work, then I broke it in and now it opens with the slightest draw.

Hey guys ... Thanks for the help, guys.

hey jackson,

sorry about all that crap you had to go thru with that company, but i tell u, when u get the hang of your dbv, it will be so sweet!

i got no way of testing the temp but when i got my dbv, i thought it was 'under powered' too.
(assuming its not an electronic heating issue) bear in mind, it's difficult to compare 'time' on the different dbvs as temp control knob may be calibrated differently. mine comes on at about 7+. my sweet area is about 11-12.30 But when i first got it, my time was 3-4 (4 is full power) and yet i couldn't combust (then!).

and 'breathe slow' is a relative term. for a start, this guy told me to breathe so slow/gentle like you're hardly breathing, and it works great. set at a lower setting initially, and move up per hour (or so) incrementally as you conduct the field test of your dbv unit. once u get comfortable, then u can vary your breath pacing/length and/or the temp control.

for myself, at a lower setting the first 1-3 tokes may have more taste less vapor, then more vapor less taste towards the further tokes. dont forget to stir once in awhile. now, i don't think vapor is thicker than smoke but you can still get a fair amount (esp newbies catching those 'coughing hits'!) but (from what i heard) the vapor also depends on other factors like the type/quality of your weed. i use brick weed and it works fine!

so, play around with your dbv. there will be enough 'high' & vapor both!

p/s - (reminder from Smoking electricity) try not to overload your wand. 1-3 to 1/4 will be fine. lightly press down with the marble tool.

I also had a question for the thread - That little metal shimmy thing for the heater cover to fit on the base of the heater is stuck in my heater cover. I can't remember if it was always like that or not. I was planning on buying a new heater cover and I was wondering if all the heater covers have that metal piece when you order them because there is no way I can get that little piece out of my current hc.

Thanks, Blake.

All the Da Buddha Heater Covers we sell come with the metal "spacer" I think your referring to. It helps secure the Heater Cover into place.

You can try this next time. Let unit cool completely wrap a slightly damp folded washcloth (NOT WET) around the wand base near tube. Turn unit on high... keep holding wand with the cloth. wait about 7-10 seconds, grip firmly through the washcloth (or remove it now and use bare hand) and twist .. you have exp[anded the HC, and kept the wand cooler with washcloth... works every time!

Whenever I used kief or wand hash I found it used to get really messy clogging up the screen and stuff :o

you can vape pure unpressed kief quite well in the DBV. use the metal wand pick to stir it up every 10 hits and gently smooth it back out with a head of a nail so it covers the entire screen. you will know when it's done because the kief no longer sticks to the screen. shouldn't mess your screen up at all. lasts for hours. i'm sure you could do the same with a SSV.

One other tip was in line, in my thoughts for the recent new DBV owners
(Hey cluffy.. Da Buddah and Surfer have both had quite a week, in the face of all this new technology!)
The oils and condensation inside of your wand are not just from vapor passing. It accumulates from trace amounts of vapor left in the whip.
We all love producing a great FOG, but when doing so we often draw to our lungs capacity, and leave no space in our "suck" to clear the wand of vapor. (part of why I use hand held- easy to move away from device)
A good way to reduce how often and to what extent you must deal with your whips, is to move the wand from the heat, while you still have some lung room left, and suck that baby through!
A bunch of the Vaporists have posted tips for cleaning. I am giving these two, as I wrote them, and had the links. There are many posts of value around this spot from a bunch of forum members- all are worth reading.

pretty amazing so far. the highs are much better and last longer.

i am however having issues with finding that sweet spot on the temp dial. i start out by warming it full blast and after a minute or so ill turn it down to between the 1oclock and 2oc position. my results so far are great, but i cannot see at all how im saving herb. its seems almost the same as if i were burning it. maybe im running it too hot...? maybe im not using enough herb for it to properly be most effective...?

my normal home consumption took place through a small glass 1-hitter similar to this:
http://www.glass-pipes-water-bongs.com/foto/bigw/314-one-hitter---glass-simple-pure---3-in.jpg

i consumed between a .5 gram to 1 gram a day with this method for the last few years. basically the reason im telling you all this is because im hoping to conserve even more with my DBV. does anyone here put what would be considered "a 1-hit or two" amount in their wand for vaping? i find this amount to vape up very quickly.

thoughts?
My sweetspot is noon. After heating it @ noon for 3 minutes I load .2-.3g and hit it 5 or 6 or times, swirl the wand and hit it 3 or 4 more times. I then turn it up to 2 oclock and repeat. I get 10 - 12 hits and end up with chocolate brown ABV, depending on the herb. I believe it was Steiner who gave me the approach to stay at your sweetspot as long as you can. It increased my output. Good luck.
going to quote this as my first post. I just joined and am also apart of the Da Buddha Family. I have owned it for a little over a year and it is the only way I comsume MJ at home. I see all these post just like the one above and how you get all those hits and such. I pretty much do the same but I compress those hits into less hits but much bigger hits and it seems to really work out. Plus is take away alot of the learning curve for friends and such because all you need to tell them is the "hit the shit out of it!". I have learned over the course of owning it that draw speed is the answer to all your problems and which settings on the dial you should be using. I set my DBV full blast! and hit it as hard as I can. I still get the same slightly browned ABV like I did before but I get much bigger hits faster. I usually get only about 5 hits out of a bowl(that doesn't even register on my scale. So probably .08 at most.) and usually a bowl of that size will last me two sessions and I have been in the game for over 15 years! I have hooked it up to my bong before and I think I get equal to fatter hits this way. The only thing I have noticed is if you have friends hit it and they don't power hit the shit out of it like you told them. They will just blow through the whole bowl basically in one hit. Like I said earlier its all about the draw speed. Because I can put in little .005 and hit that a few times because I just crank it like I always do, but hit it like it was at noon on the dial. That why I don't have to pack my bowls so large and I am making the unit as efficient as possible. Just wanted to express my love for the Da Buddha and my particular method of using it.

Can anyone confirm that the alumina heating element in this vape is safe from leeching toxins or degrading and being inhaled? I brought the subject up with 7th floor and they were floundering for a legitimate response. I'm becoming very skeptical to be honest. Anyone have scientific proof that these ceramic heating elements from 7th floor are safe to use?

The heating element does contain alumina (aluminum oxide that is essentially inert) that is part of the ceramic production process, and ceramics are inert. Our receptionist just gave you slightly incorrect information. It is completely safe and extremely long lasting(we have models that have run continuously for over 8 years and still perform perfectly. Alumina itself vaporizes @ over 4000 degrees F, so there is no risk of it off-gassing, leaching, or degrading. Every single one of our customers can attest to this.

If you have any other questions feel free to email me chris@7thfloor.biz.

--Seems sketchy

Many vaporizers just use nichrome as the heating element... just bare nichrome. That is why we use a heating element that is completely and 100% encapsulated in ceramics. Again, I will mention that ceramics are inert. This type of element is used in personal size coffee mug heaters, and a huge variety of other uses. The element in that use is submerged in liquid. That is okay due to it being inert.
Ceramics, when made properly, are safe. And truth be told...there are lower quality ceramic heating elements out there. We just don't use them...we only use the finest in the entire industry.

budballer said:
Where do all these harsh feelings for alumina come from if they aren't true?

They come from people not understanding the nature of all things inert. They are also derived from a lack of understanding about the nature and qualities of ceramics. Its a notion that is created purely out of fear. There is absolutely no evidence to support the hypotheticals you suggested. If your research has produced any information to the contrary, please supply it. I will gladly admit if I am wrong.

budballer said:
Whose to say that the constant air flow over top isn't removing tiny particles of alumina that are being inhaled?

Who is to say that it even is happening? Now we are dealing in the hypothetical. Do you have any evidence that this has occured? Again, research into the properties and qualities of ceramics will show you that this just isn't going to happen. There is no evidence(real-world or scientifically) that this could, or even has happened.

budballer said:
Not enough to notice a difference in the shape of the heating element but enough to give someone cancer 20 years down the line.

Again, see Inert. That is why this heating element is used in a variety of human applications. And again, there is no scientific reason to think that air moving slowly over one of the most durable materials on earth would cause any change or degradation to it. Its far more durable than the glass that surrounds it in our product.

Sean, our product is meant to help people rid themselves of the harmful chemicals in tobacco, and eliminate the destructive harm caused to your lungs due to combustion. Its intended to help people lead healthier, happier lives. We did our research...and it was far more extensive than those that are using hypothetical that are not based on science or even real world data. I implore you to do more research on your own behalf and educate yourself about the materials you are unsure of. The information is out there. Depending on your environmental conditions (amount of pet hair/dander, dust, pollens/allergens, dryness/humidity) and geographical location, you may, over time, experience a buildup of excessive *things* (see above) on the inside of the glass heater cover, surrounding the heating element and rising up into the top of the heater cover. This is a result of a buildup of what exists in your local air. We experienced this on our test models, but we expect to as they live in an extremely dusty warehouse environment. We moved some of the these models to a different and much cleaner location a few years ago, and the issue stopped immediately. If this is something you experience, simply remove the heater cover when cool and clean as needed.

High fellow vapor dudes,

well I just got my new DBV yesterday along with a shitload of glass. I bought a HA 2 months ago & a nice little perc bong to go with it a month later. I figured beating the HA as a robust VAPEBONGING MONSTER was going to be a tall order. a couple of small mods on the HA will have it pulling top milky vapor in a really effiecient manner.

nice, right??

well, I got a DBV yesterday. My mate has a SSV, I have a HA2.1, I figured a dbv would give me quite a broad perspective of 3 of the more popular vapes available where I live. (I think we cant get any of the woodbox vapes here due to quarrantine laws., pls dont quote me as the gospel)

Bought some glass from grasscity, spent the day (Yesterday) vaping with the new glass & the HA.
Tried to use the DBV, and it was just too hard while I was sporting a massive hard-on testdriving all the new glass bits.

Well, I spent some time today with the latest addition to the family (the DBV)
OMG- I aint calling the DBV the winner between it & the HA just yet.
But I was on the lets get shitefaced while doing the testdive POV. So, my normal sized load for the HA goes in the DBV, just a bit of kief on top (for fun).

set the badboy at 1oclockish, put the adapter on the little ashcatcher perc attached to my new nautalis layback inline bong & pulled nice & even.
cloud, after cloud, of the nicest, thick vapor. 5-6 rips

stir, 3-4 rips.
jack it up to 2-3oclock & holy shit batman, another 2 or 3 nice tasty ripps!

tip out the ABV & it looks just like the abv from the HA! nice, dark & brown, very even.

I think I might have dialled in my new DBV in just 2 loads! no learning curve here to try ones patience,
-cool!
I reckon I going to blaze thru a bit of weed in the next few days.
Research & development is a bitch.

Very happy DBV owner, thankyou to all the contributers of this great site, you have changed my life for the better.
all my mates think I'm crazy, and/ or drug fucked. I just cant get them to see this is not only the future,
but totally superior to combusting on so many levels.

They wont get to see my glass etc, but if someone can tell me how to post pics here, I would love to show some like minded souls my new stuff.

back to the testing, its tough, but its very important work.

peace:peace:
