Welcome back, @DDave !

and we STILL don't have a hugging emoticon.

Working through this has triggered my earlier search for Truth, Self, and Whatever... so, I've signed up for a Vipassana meditation retreat in October. I've been before (a few times...) but not since 2010. I recall that it gave me amazing "balance" and resiliency in otherwise dodgy situations. High time I go again!

:luv:
Thanks @Enchantre! Glad to be back!!!!

I agree, also a High Five emoticon... which I'd have used in reply to your "Welcome Back".... ;)

Plenty of folks out in the world like in their 50+ who were never diagnosed with Aspergers who have it. Years ago if a child was just a bit quirky they may have missed diagnosing them. If theyre not diagnosed by a doctor or the schools, the children slip between the cracks were not given the extra services and help they needed.

Also years ago there wasn't as much help available for families and schools with kids that had what would be considered a bit different. I was reading about Aspergers and doctors didn't hear a lot about it before the 1950s.

lol years ago they put you in a crack if you were quarky... or beat you...

I remember being punished for using my left hand in Kentucky while in first grade. (ruler slap on the wrist) I had to sneak doing my homework with my left so I wouldnt get punished for not doing my homework... another slap on the wrist.... kentucky was still very literal in the 90s.

that was just my being left handed...

imagine the possibilities!

im so happy my kids get better treatment!

The children that were sent to the principal's office or the parents called to pick up little Jonny or Jane because they were disrupting the classroom.

They also were probably in some cases held back because of their behavior but yet very bright and capable. The child was dealt with in the wrong manor that actually escalated the negative behavior. Its very hard for a child to learn when there's a battle going on with the teacher all the time.

not just the teachers. peer pressure is the worst thing in schools... girls taking nudie shots and getting totally humiliated for it has become common place in the highschool here. I dont know what we will do when our children reach that age.

I remember when I was in high school I started doing anything I could to be liked by someone. then when that didnt work I started doing the stuff that bad kids did thinking maybe they would like me.

then this one guy took pitty on me cause I was trying to buy some "weed" they had obveiously sold me cooking spice and thought it was hilarious.

that cat took me out and got me high for the first time.

went to science class and sat down totally calm. lol was so enthusiastic to answer a question that I actually raised my hand and forgot what I was going to say... rambled off some other information pertaining to the discussion but not actually answering the question and then sat back down totally embarrassed cause I messed up.

one of the "advanced courses" girls lookd right at me and said "holy shit, I didnt know you were that smart, I always thought you were just one of those druggy losers!?"

I just kinda chuckled and said well I dont know....

ah memories.... how I wish I forget some of them.:hmm:

Dang! I can identify with almost all the above! I wish I knew then, what I know now, so I could have asked for help myself! All I knew is I was different. All they knew is I was trouble.

Ok, too serious for me at the moment, so I resort to humor! (All except for the "she" part, the below is FUNNY!)

LOL! I was just asked what type of gift to give someone with Aspergers...

So I advised of a few simple rules (that don't necessarily apply only to Aspies!)

1) Don’t give that which you’ve clearly purchased for yourself.
2) Don’t over-think it.
When contemplating gift ideas, it is best not to get carried away. Unfortunately for me, the autistic mind just loves to think too hard about things.
3) Do pay attention. Listen to the intended recipient over time. Eventually they will spill some information on their likes or wants.
4) And most importantly - The greatest gift of all is a Porsche.

Hey, on a side note, this test is kind of fun! Reading The Eyes!

I scored 30 correct out of 36. So, I'm not so Mind Blind after all.... ;)

stay true to yourselves
I have felt like "the giver" all my life.

The Giver is a book. and apparently also a jeff bridges movie...
It's a good book, fuck the movie. The book was beautiful!

& empathy is a bizare super power to have and I know what yous mean! haha
I can't look at wounds or I feel the pain, so whenever I hear a bump or scratch from someone around me I look away and ask them to not describe it unless they need support lol
Also great at imagining things from other perspectives in my dreams. I like to think I can interpret people's deeper vibrations of their soul :)

Hmmm ...not too sure we lack
Cognitive Empathy.
True. I think it's a different super power that some on the spectrum have.

I have lots of empathy, and I'm pretty good at cognitive empathy, as well, which is a super power for my job! what I run into, is fear of the reactions of others.

I have no clear idea, ever, of people's emotional reactions & whys. I am always expecting some sort of unpleasant outburst, while at the same time being mystified by them. yeah, that's a kryptonite for me.

I can feel the emotional tone in a room, or from a person, but I can also get a clear idea of what they are trying to say/explain/verbalize. my hubby claims that I read minds.
