I am now immune to any and all beauties appearing on the site. That's not really true, but if I say it often enough, I'm hoping it'll 'take', for a while at least. ;)

Oh...... someone's got the bug......
Look out max or your signature is going to start looking like mine.

If I listed all the vapes in my house in my sig, I'd be violating the rule against using a "huge" sig. Time to have a yard sale.

That Box Elder with the red in it sure looks nice. Uh Oh, time to repeat my mantra again.

Got it Jeppy. My apologies for not getting back quicker. Our magic super fast internet went away for awhile. All the blue lights were not blinking but everything is back now and we are good. I will try to get a pic up of the cross turned Maple you first ordered. Just like Alan said, a stack of growth rings. We got a good sized lateral crack in it the first day. It was a beauty but too fragile for our use apparently. I'll get that Black Locust out to arrive Monday. I could not make today because of the lost internet.

I'll be taking a look at our first small bubbler attempt tomorrow. I do have some good glass news regardless. We will be picking up some short(5-6") plain janes tomorrow. The thing is, these are something different from what we had earlier. KNARLY is the word I got. Very thick glass and totally straight on the outside all the way down. The 14 mm GonG female fitting is ground into the inside with no outside GonG look. I will offer them with a GonG stem and should have pic and prices tomorrow. I have had many customers tell me that was their favorite glass hookup to the Zap.

That was a sweet pick Jeppy. Thanks for your patience. I did love your beautiful crackpot comments.

Hey Rick, no worries. I know you have a lot on your plate,,so to speak... I'm a steak and potatoes man myself. Looks like I'm gonna have to start buying all your doo dads as well. After I made the crack pot comments, I went back and tried to edit them to no avail. You see,,,as beautiful as those crackpots are,,,,,well,,,,,,,I'm afraid. :goon: Ok? There I said it. shit..... Ya'll happy now? :cuss:

See Jeppy, that's the Universe working for you! Making that post stay up as originally written.
No, really it is some of the new forum rules. You can only edit your post for six hours after it is posted now. I think the time limit on editing is a good thing. It will eliminate some goofy bait and switch games that were played in the past by folks who worked this forum in all kinds of ways. Editing should be to correct spelling, grammar and maybe add another thought or two. In the past, people would get up the next day or the next week and decide they didn't want to say that, then it was gone or totally changed. Then confusion, directed confusion.
The new 6 hour rule means we better think twice before posting. It also means a better forum with less games possible, and posts/replies making more sense, IMO.
Off to see the Glass God today.
I'll get that pic up of the beautiful girl with the big lateral crack that was for Jeppy. How lucky for him. He gets to not even meet this cracked beauty.

I am sorry to hear about the crack in the cross turned maple Rick. I know how much work when in to making it. Cracks are always painful. I have had better luck turning in that orientation with the wood being extremely dry (microwave oven or food dehydrator). It will have shrunk to its smallest shape. Wood will still do unpredictable things though. It can be a fine line between too loose and cracked.
Nice to see you setting the standard in customer service that we all try to follow.
Happy turning.

First comes the crack. This has happened before on cross grain turned units.

A goner for sure.
Now comes the fun.
First, our heavy 14 mm GonG straight tubes. These are thicker glass than the old ones and come in right at 6 inches long, end to end. They will come with one short 14 mm GonG SS stem that I make. As easy as it gets to clean and extra screens for the short SS stem attachment. Very good cooled deep pulls easily obtained with this glass stem. I am considering an FC special coupon code that will substitute one of these honkers for a regular stem with the purchase of a Zap.

As I said earlier, these have proven to be very popular in the past. They will come in similar to the Tooty in price, maybe a buck or two higher.

And now our first proto Zap inline bubbler. This piece is a bit heavy, coming in at 4 oz. We will be tweaking it a little here and there for performance and a bit less weight. It is very similar to the Aqua Hit shown on Alans thread a week or two ago except we have removed the tube coming down from the top which is an anti-spill feature. The problem with that design is cleaning, getting all the water out. These pics are bad because we tried it before shooting and I could not get it to look spanking new again in a hurry. It does work very well.(sorry, no video yet) Our tiny Zap stem tips got cashed in a hurry with such easy, cooled, long pulls. The price will be over $50 for sure as these are handmade. The ones we kinda copied are machine made on a lathe.

Both glass pieces use the same short 14 mm GonG stem for use in the Zap. Both will also work with our regular stems.
Zeppy will get one of the straight pieces and a short stem for the extra long wait he has endured to replace his cracked Maple CRZ(above).

I cant believe that inlines are finally happening! I can remember 2+ years ago when people were first raising questions about them in this thread.

Cant wait to see what the final product looks like!

collegerower,
Any idea when these new glass stems and inline bubblers will be available for current zap owners? I'd love to have both.

Nice to see the comments on the inline. As I said, we will still do a little tweaking to the first prototype shown above. A little lighter, possibly more and smaller perc holes at the bottom for more diffused bubbles, a little more length for a little more water. Currently we can fill to the widest dimension in the middle for the fill line.
This is the first attempt at an inline vapor bubbler for Tim. He is the Pro so we are leaving it up to his good judgement with the "simple as possible" caveat only. His first attempt is very good. Next ones will be even better. This will take some time but does look like it will happen. I will also be coming up with a simple 'round' of polished wood with one hole in the center for a stand to hold it as it cannot be laid down flat. A slight upward angle will keep it from spilling but we have to deal with that. I am thinking we can do the holders simply and using some of the tons of 'free' wood I have around the place. As mentioned earlier, we left the top "no spill" tube out of this design so it can be easily cleaned. If anyone has experience with the inline no spill design, how is it to clean? How do you get the water out?

OK, now for a little real time fun. I played with the website discount stuff and did not get anything to work so how about this for now.

We will substitute a heavy 14mm glass stem with a short GonG stem for a regular stem in any Zap order for FC members. You have to be a member for this offer, not just a lurker.
Here is how it will work.
1) order any CRZ on the CRZ page.
2) Email me thru the FC forum(must be a member to do that) and tell me the unit you bought and you want the glass special.
3) I will get back to you to confirm the change AND WRITE IT DOWN AT THE TIME SO I DO NOT SPACE YOU.

We will get the heavy 14 mm GonG glass up as a stand alone product later today. They will come with a short GonG stem(ss or brass) and sell for $25 total delivered price.

Yes, I am totally onboard for that glass stem.

Just a suggestion, Rick, but it would be really cool if you were able to use some of the same type of wood for the bubbler base stand to match each zap. It would be sweet to have the matching set when buying a new zap.

Both of the new glass pieces look awesome! I would definitely most likely be in for one of those .. :) In terms of hitting the straight piece do you just hook it up, take a hit then pull it all off together ? or take the glass off first then the SS GonG?

Also, what do you guys think about hooking your zaps up to extension cables and stuff? Do they run better/hotter when hooked up straight into the wall? Does the extension cable lower it's capacity?

Thanks!

Hey Rick. I have one of the no-spill in-lines. As long as you clean it regularly there's no problem with them. The old ISO and salt works wonders if the build-up is a bit sticky. IMO the no spill aspect is worth it for the marginal extra difficulty in cleaning - plus will save a lot of work in regards to creating holders.

Edit: It is nigh on impossible to get all the water out. You can get most but there is always a thimble-full left in unless you use a high pressure blast of air or heat.

I believe this no spill feature is a splashguard. The pieces i have used with splashguards are interesting , byt there are different kinds. theres the standard dome with slits around the top, goes above tree percs. And others like the donut splashgaurd on my headford inline(a lot more work for just the splash guard)

it can depending on the design make it hard to empty all of the water. but more importantly here it will change the flow a good amount which alters the kind of hit youll get. Water pieces are some sorta magic :)
