Arizer Solo 3

@KindBuddyBud Can you tell us which temperatures this is for? How high is "turn the temp up"?
424°F for on-demand. That’s setting three in on-demand mode. I’ll increase the temp from there if needed. 399°F in session mode, that’s setting three as well. I’m thinking about turning that up too for the XL aroma tube with a j-hook.

Love the Solo 3..it's the most powerful vape I own & the most flavorful also..adding terp pearls to the stem was a game changer..it helped w/cooling big-time..I'm liking it more & more I know that..I might order a some different size bent stems from potv & see what that's like..

What size pearls? How many? Can you post a pic?

I upgraded to a Sea Green V2 recently. I've grumbled here about the buttons not working well on my original S3. I even sent it back to Arizer who determined that it was functoining normally. My V2 unit had better button functionality, but I have to assume that part of the problem is mine. My new unit also appears to run about 10C hotter than my previous unit. I had previously used session temperatures of 160, 178, and 200. Last night I reduced these to 150, 170, and 190. So far that seems to result in an experience close to what I had with the old unit.
After a discussion with Arizer tech support (and it is good tech support!), they think it is probably working OK, just hotter than set. Just to be safe, I am going to send it back to be checked by Arizer. I can't shake the feeling that my V1 unit tasted better.

So I haven’t had much luck with cleaning my WPA any further and unfortunately the other one I have now has the same issue where there is buildup on the back of the glass screen that I can’t get out, at this point it seems the alcohol has done all it’s going to do. I was able to get some of it out with a bent dabber and then a little more when I was drying it with a twisted up coffee filter (2nd to last pic) but what remains doesn’t seem to come off. I’ve pretty much given up on cleaning these and now I just wonder if they should be used like this, perhaps after leaving them in a vape at max temp for a cycle or two? What does everyone think? Also, does anyone else have stems or WPAs that look like this after cleaning? It’s just that it seems like this is buildup and not the same as the marks you can see on the wall of the bowl in the first pic.

With the Air Max and original Solo I’d soak the stems every few weeks and all that would remain was scorch marks on the walls of the bowl, I never got whatever this is until I got the Solo III and it happens consistently. I’ve got a Sneaky Pete high flow WPA that I’m using now and hoping that this won’t happen with because there is no glass screen but I’m very hesitant to clean it even though it kind of needs it now because I have no other WPAs and don't know if they should be used like this.

I use 0000 steel wool for the bowl before or after using alcohol, cleans it up quick..as for the other, I don't know if there is a solution.. scolding hot water seems to get most of it but not all..

The S3 gets hotter, quicker than the older Arizers - with legacy devices like my 2014 Air I could be quite lax with the cleaning schedule, but with the Solo 3 I find the only real solution is to simply clean the glass more frequently. No more than a few uses max to prevent the residue from baking on.

The short stem in particular needs to be cleaned more often since the S3 oven is deeper, which is what causes that residue to quickly bake on above the screen.

I sometimes swab the bowl end with a cotton swab after a bowl, like a dab, but it's easier to just do an ISO dunk than try to get a swab down the long end.

Assuming they can't be cleaned any further, are the current stems OK to use? Perhaps after a cycle in the vape at max temp while empty? Not really sure what to do with the ones I have. If it was just the scorch in the bowl I would use them without worry like I've been doing (usually I scrub it off but sometimes I'm lazy...) but this seems a bit different to me so I haven't been using them after they start looking like that.

Wish I had thought of that, sounds a lot better than scrubbing with salt like I've been doing! I've added this to the shopping list and will give this a try for the scorch marks in the bowl.

More frequent cleaning is really the only thing I can think of to prevent this too, I got some new WPAs on the way and am going to drop them in a container of alcohol every night before bed going forward. It's real off-putting to have to do this though and part of me is also thinking just forget about this crazy hassle and switch back to the Air Max but we'll see how it goes.

What is a backspacer?

I just came to the forum to ask what people think about the 157 grad stainless steel dosing caps for the solo 3?

The only annoying thing about using the solo3 ist the small fine mehr screen in the stems. I already lost 2 out of 4 of them. Need to order them as well.

But so far. I love the solo 3
The Hits are so smooth, potent and tasty....wow...i find it less Irritating on the throat maybe.
I've never used screens in my stems, they are just not needed.

I got a small, ultrasonic cleaner from Battery Junction to clean my stems with. What works best is put the stems in a ziplock with ISO in it and place it in the machine, run it through 3-4 cycles and the come out nice and clean! i put 4-5 stems in at a time and reuse the alcohol 2-3 times
(I dilute 99% ISO to 50% )

You could get different WPA, without that glass honeycomb screen, that would also help solve the issue I would think? I find them better anyway potentially (still trying to get GVB to make more of the loose fitting, or even tight fitting, WPA with basket screen and handle, to sell on his site, just like the one I have and use exclusively now)

@gheebee I can't see why that stem would be unsafe to use. It looks like there is a very small gap around the glass screen on some stems and the resin (diluted with ISO) can flow in there. I doubt that you can get enough ISO in there to dissolve it further. More heat will just darken it.

Thanks a lot for the responses everyone! I'm actually very curious to see how it goes with the ultrasonic cleaner now but, thankfully, now also not too concerned if it doesn't solve the issue; I bet it does but will report back regardless.

You mentioned this the last time and I wound up not trying it after thinking about all of the jewelry cleaner I've used in the one I have. Ironically it was purchased for different vaping, it was for cleaning the parts of my mechanical mods. Anyway, I'm glad you mentioned putting the stems in a bag this time because it sounds like a great idea. Now all I have to do is hope this thing still works! Do you put water in the ultrasonic cleaner chamber too or just the bag with the ISO and stem(s)?

I got one of the High Airflow WPAs from Sneaky Pete for that exact reason but have been putting off cleaning it in case I'm wrong. I rinsed and dried it when it arrived and have just been using it since. lol After reading the replies here I'm a lot less reluctant to try and clean it though. Regarding GVB I'm hoping to get a cool looking WPA from them once I figure out exactly what I want (...and get a handle on this cleaning situation!).

It's definitely reassuring to hear this. Kinda figured that after all the post-Everclear cleaning, rinsing, drying, and maybe a heat soak that there really shouldn't be anything in them but it's also nice to hear someone else say it too!

Definitely some improvement on the stem I tried in the ultrasonic, before:

I should have also asked before how long you clean them for in the ultrasonic cleaner? I ran mine for around 20 minutes. Also, when I put in my bag with the alcohol and WPA sealed inside it floated so I put something on top of it to hold it down in the hot water since I wasn't sure if it would be effective if it was floating. In any event it seems like this did a lot more than anything else I tried so I assume with more time this could get it done and I will run it for 2 hours or so when I have the time to keep resetting my cleaner that will only run in 10 minute increments!
