Thank you so much for the quick and good answer. Just to clarify, the Panasonic NCR18650B is the original battery that comes with the Air 2? I have found it on a reseller, thanks a lot.

No, NCR18650B is the CELL used in Air II. I was serious, "battery" is incorrect (although very common).

Stick with genuine NCR18650Bs (from Panasonic) and you should be fine. Even if you and everyone else you know incorrectly thinks it's 'a battery'.

One is a cell. A stack of cells (two or more) is a battery.

You're welcome, of course, glad to help when I can.

Best wishes.

I just mispelled it but understood what you meant. Thanks a lot tho.

Thanks, OF! I am always wondering about my batteries (er, cells), like whether I should charge them when they get to a certain point, or let them to down to almost nothing before I recharge them. I tend to keep all my devices --screens and vapes -- fully charged in case a meteor strikes or something.

How each guy confronts the dangers of modern life is his call, of course.

Just so it's an informed decision.........

I'm sure we all know a laptop or cell phone that now has abysmal battery life after being left on the charger 24/7 so it would be 'ready to go'? Now you know why that happened.

Been enjoying my Air 2 more frequently lately. I like using lower temps, so 365-370, but even then I still notice my material gets very dark on the side that's closer to the heater.

Nothing burnt but way darker than my Solo would get it at level 4/5.

Another gripe is that turning it on with one hand, usually my thumb, is not really easy, and often it will count down 2...1..then off again. Using two fingers (l+r thumb) is fine, and the way I usually do it, but what are ya gonna do?

Really fun to use it though. Heats up fast, tastes amazing (extra flavor power when you put in a little sliver of hash). It really feels good to hold.

I noticed that when I use just the USB cable it came with (or any cable), plugged into my keyboard's USB slot or PC, I get an "Error 2" after a while, but never had that or any other errors/issues while using an electrical outlet to charge.

Oh, has anyone else been using just the short straight stem noticed really large blobs of condensate / Honey in theirs? I wonder if this is because I always leave the Stem in the device after emptying the AVB.
I considered it was because there was still vapor left in the stem/device after use, and left it standing upright after use. I wonder if I plugged the end of the stem it would collect more?

I've noticed that I can also get away with a second back-to-back session (I usually start at 365/370 and then go up a few degrees. I usually stir between bowls, scraping off the too dark parts.

Happy new years everyone! Hope you're all enjoying your vapes!

Solo or Air? We are on an Air Forum and it does make a difference.

Air basically is USB since it's a single 18650 and charges to 4.2 Volts max the 5 Volts from the USB is enough 'barefoot'. To make that work with Solo, where there are two such cells in series for a total of 8.4 Volts, we're going to have to deal with the lower voltage somehow. This can be done by first converting it to something higher like the 12 Volts used normally first.

That has a price, beyond simply paying for more electronics, Solo II charges at 1.3 Amps at 12 Volts (15.6 Watts). To get that 15 Watts we'll need 15 Watts from the USB, plus some 'tax' since we're never 100% efficient at conversions. Something like 85% is much more realistic. So we need to add 15% more on our 15.6 Watts, 18 Watts total. Divided by 5 Volts from the USB and we need 3.6 Amps to charge 'normally'.

Only USBs can't do that, more like one Amp. It's not that it can't be done, in fact I've got a 'mod' (power supply for serious e-cigs) that does just that, but it's very slow. And human nature being what it is, Solo II owners will take advantage of their extra capacity by using the 50% or so to go 12 rather than 8 sessions between charges? But then the recharge time will be 50% longer..... No free lunches.

If you absolutely must do this (charge Solo from a USB port), PM me, and we'll see what we can cobble up?

OF

Micro USB can do higher amperage but not often,
This is why we need USB c, it supports higher voltage profiles then the internal chip can step it down to 5v at higher amp.
USB c can support plenty high wattages high enough ones to even be charging the battery and be used at the same time

My guess is that you are not getting enough power the charge the vape. Plug the USB into a real USB plug (wall) and it should be fine.

Just got mine and doing the burn offs. I'm really impressed with the build quality. Just had two questions:
  1. Should I burn off the stems as well?
  2. Is there a way to check the battery without plugging the unit in?

1. Few, if any, do. Most wash, ISO wipe and load at best. They should be clean when you get them (like any glassware?). Personally, I usually put such things in the dishwasher anyway as soon as I get them.

2. Turn it on. There's a crude 'meter' there (upper right corner?), four steps IIRC, half (more or less) what Solo I had?

Welcome to the Forum, good folks here 'bouts. Enjoy your Solo, it's a good one.

Can I use very finely grounded herb (via coffee grinder)? I have a lot of that left over. I'm just worried about it falling down into the heating element.

You can use finely ground material. I would suggest that you tamp a bit and if you are still concerned about material falling into the heater you can take the first couple of hits with the Air upsidedown.

I've really enjoyed my A2 these past few days.

Dry, sip on it for 20 minutes usually, start at 365°F , after a few minutes (pre-10) then stir it (although it's not needed, but the closer to the oven your material the darker it gets) and continue at about 370 / 375.

I also plugged the Whip from my EQ into the bubbler, and have been sipping on that pretty much exactly as you see in my profile pic!

The Taste isn't amazing near the end, but it's still nice and surprisingly not horrible. It's just a joy to use.

I know some people turn it up higher and get a few huge hits through water, but I always end up sipping all day! Sippers unite!

Oh yeah, what I would like seeing in the Air 3:

Session timer, at least the minutes, so I know how long I have left?
Rotating screen! Show some bubbler love!
"Stealth mode" - no lights/display active for outdoor nighttime missions (OBVIOUSLY!)
Vibration (haptic feedback) - not really needed but maybe a way to inform you when the session is over, or the temperature drops below a certain °F/°C or something like that. Or when it's reached the set temp.

Ah well.

Going to be trying some shorter sessions soon, in an effort to make my nugs last even longer (vaping the same bowl twice).

Have a nice day everyone!

Although I only have an original Air, what I do is put just a little layer of less finely ground material in first, and lightly tamp it down, and filling the rest of the stem with the real fine stuff I get from my magic flight finishing grinder, which I may lightly tamp down if it's overly full, but seems to not really make a difference in performance whether I do or not. I get consistently excellent results doing this, and it shouldn't really be any different for an Air II as far as I know. The inside of my Air is basically pristine, and I don't get any little bits of herb in my mouth or anything like that.

Had some problems with one of the Air IIs we ordered from Planet of the Vapes. Have to say, the support of Planet of the Vapes as the support of Arizer are outstanding! Can only recommend Planet of the Vape as one of the best shops I ever had contact with and Arizer as a great company handling all in a perfect way.

I think you should be. The power source just has to be able to handle 1.3A - but I'm not certain! No guarantees.

I've used regular cell phone charger cables without any notable issues, but you may get a "Error 2" message. I think that means it needs more power, in my case I was using my PC's usb ports. After I started using plugs in a wall socket (regular outlet) I stopped getting any errors.

On another topic:
Do any of you know if it's possible to vape concentrates/wax or hash in the Air/Solo series without any flower, using for example some cotton? Or would that just burn up?

It's not only possible, but commonly done with cotton. No, the cotton doesn't burn at even 428F. Some guys go all out (Japanese specialty being considered the best, see the e-cig guys......). On suggestion from our very own @Vitolo I use 'common Medical Grade' cotton I steal out of vitamin bottles. He pulls the ends off q-tips IIRC.

On the matter of charging, since I don't (yet?) own a Solo II I can't be sure but there should be no problems if you stick with 5 Volts (of the right polarity......) and make connectors match up. Lower current source should not be a problem (it's not in Air I or ArGo both of which I have tested) and a lot of other vapes, it just charges slower. My IPad is the same, it'd like something like 3 Amps and will recharge in a few hours, plug it into a normal USB port and it can take all day. Lots of us recharge our Air Is with cables like this:

I don't know the numbers man, sorry!

Just tried some wax, on some cotton from one of my organic q-tips. Just a sliver, heated up a bit before over my e-nano (this makes it easier and less prone to getting everything sticky haha)
Totally worked, thanks! Got several hits, even at the end of the 12 minutes.

Started at 390°F, and moved up to 400 about halfway through. Tasted pretty good too, not like flower, but still very nice. I guess that will depend on your material.

This is a great vape!

No, NCR18650B is the CELL used in Air II. I was serious, "battery" is incorrect (although very common).

Even if you and everyone else you know incorrectly thinks it's 'a battery'.

One is a cell. A stack of cells (two or more) is a battery.

You're welcome, of course, glad to help when I can.

Actually according to Merriam Webster's dictionary a battery can consist of a single cell. I think I'll (correctly) continue calling them batteries.
Dictionary said:
b : a group of two or more cells (see cell 5) connected together to furnish electric current; also : a single cell that furnishes electric current

As you wish, but just 'because everybody does it' isn't support for spreading ignorance when it can be avoided I think. FWIW folks say 'decimated' a lot when they mean 'destroyed' or 'damaged' but want to sound smarter? Look it up. It means when Roman Legions would fail or otherwise disappoint they were ordered to draw lots to see who would be beat to death by their fellows. One in ten, hence the name. Much different?

Cells and batteries is an important distinction with already established definitions. IMO we should use those terms correctly. Folks are free to use them incorrectly, but I'll probably comment on that from time to time pointing to the difference.

You'e the only one talking about "what everyone else does." I'm simply quoting the most well known and accepted dictionary on the planet's definition of what a battery is.

Are you really trying to tell me that your definition is somehow more accurate than Merriam Webster Dictionary?

Since you ask, yes I know that's the case. In the days I used to teach this kind of thing, you could find it in your text and therefore expect it on the final.......

Of course it's more accurate used correctly. If I say 'battery' you know there is two or more cells. If I say 'D cell' you know it's a single unit. "Battery" and "Cell" are two different things, right? Therefore using the 'right' term correctly automatically conveys more information. Using them interchangeably less so.

I expect anyone educated in the technology to agree. Again, technical terms should be used correctly when possible. We need better, not more poorly, informed citizens going forward?

Let's not debate "battery" vs. "cell" in the Air II thread please. Or any other vape thread for that matter. If someone wants to make a poll in the lounge or have a PM debate about this, feel free to do so, but the discussion is quite OT here and bordering on pedantry.

Thank you.

Must use dictionary.....brain stressing....... ahhhhh I see now. Thanks Stu for educating me on the word "pedantry". I will now use this word often....haaa

Back OT.....After becoming used to very little draw resistance with another vape I use.....my Air2 is getting more use now compared to my Air1.5. I am glad I did not sell the Air2. I was not happy after getting the Air2 after the first few weeks of use. The reason was because of the less draw restriction...it seemed like I had to draw longer to get close to the same effects as my Air1. Now I have figured out that I can up the heat to specific levels that allow for better performance. I normally am a low temp user as I am highly sensitive and older. So being able to micro dial in the heat settings...allows for me to get to the point I need and not go over. I normally use use the Air1 on white/purple heat setting and rarely if ever use the green temp. I find that because of being a session type of vape....the load is kept much hotter as you draw often to go through your load in time before the heater auto shuts off. Though this is too much of a work out for me lately.....I appreciate being able to control temps and time on being quite beneficial using the Air2 to my satisfaction.

I will keep both for sure as they have different uses for me.
