ABV Heath Bar Cookies

Had great results with this recipe, both flavor and effect wise.

ABV butter:
1.5 sticks butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
15g ABV, stems, rosin chips
2oz EtOH

If the ABV & whatever else you've got in there isn't finely ground, run it through a coffee grinder or somesuch. Preheat a nonstick skillet on medium low heat. Add the EtOH then the abv mixture. Swirl around for a minute or so but don't let all the alcohol evaporate. Add the coconut oil. When that has fully melted swirl to incorporate the abv then add the butter, softened & cut into chunks preferably. swirl to incorporate and lower the heat to a simmer. Simmer for 15-20min to complete decarboxylation, extract the cannabinoids and boil off the ethanol, but be careful not to burn the butter. After the ethanol has all evaporated strain the butter through a mesh strainer, it doesn't really matter if a small amount of particulate matter gets through. Then pour into a storage container and either refrigerate or freeze depending on how long you're planning on keeping it before using it. I kept my most recent batch in the freezer for a few weeks and it seemed to remove some of the abv scent & it smelled more like fresh cannabis when I removed it from the freezer. I have no idea why.

Heath bar cookies:
2 1/4th cups flour
2 eggs
1 cup raw or turbinado sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate chips
1 1/4th cups toffee bits

In standing mixer or large bowl combine the abv butter (softened or melted), eggs, sugar, & vanilla until well incorporated. Then add the baking soda & salt. When all that is well mixed add the flour all at once. When that starts to dough up add the chocolate chips and toffee bits. Get them well mixed but with the least amount of mixing possible as you don't want too much gluten to form during this process.

Scoop onto a parchment lined baking sheet with a tablespoon. I find a rounded top on the measuring tablespoon makes for a good size cookie, and that should give you about 30 cookies for this recipe at 0.5g abv per cookie. I rarely vape anything over 380F, so 1 cookie is a decent buzz, two or more is towelie high, ha. For me anyway, I have a modest tolerance. Leave an inch or so between the cookies before you stick them in the oven as they spread quite a bit.

Enjoy!

Cool recipe. What's the reason for the ethanol in the butter?

aaah, Everclear in a butter extraction. good idea. I have tried both methods separately for extraction but never mixed the 2. I was going to get a Moka pot but I may just try this with my next batch since I usually use 2 oz of ABV at a time.

My FAVORITE edibles are made from reclaim that has never been processes with anything other than heat to get it out of the drop down . The edibles from concentrate reclaim or extremely heady and trippy as fuck. No sleepy effects at all, just a nice up buzz.

Cool, got a few grams of winterized reclaim in the freezer I'm planning on using in my next baking project. What ratio of reclaim to butter do you use?

To facilitate cannabinoid extraction
Can you be more specific? I always thought that most cannabinoids were more soluble in butter/oil than ethanol. Does the ethanol break down the plant matter somehow so the resin can flow out more easily?

I'm not sure if they're more soluble in lipids or alcohol tbh, however due to the viscosity of the lipids in question it is much quicker to use alcohol. I've read alcohols break down cellulose as well (IIRC this is why you don't steep for long when making QWISO or QWET as it will extract a lot of chlorophyll).

So fft had me questioning my logic regarding the utility of alcohol in the recipe, so for my next batch I did not use any alcohol & kept all other things the same. If anything the batch of ABV should've been a bit more potent as there was a bunch of partially vaped Girl Scout Cookies bubble hash in the ol' ABV jar this time. Unfortunately the cookies were only half as potent or so (subjectively of course, this sentiment was echoed by several other people besides myself though).

So definitely going back to using alcohol next go 'round. I believe this is likely just speeding up the extraction process.

Ethanol is a shorter molecule than most fatty acids, so I think in theory it has more available spots to interact which would make it a better solvent
