Discontinued A Hot Pod

Unless there are obvious signs of wear then there's nothing you need to do. If you can get hold of some hempseed oil then that would be ideal. Maybe give it a light coat once a year by rubbing a small amount of oil in with a clean rag. I think it would be best to do this while the pod is cold, and to leave it for a few days to let the oil soak in. The pod should be wiped dry with a clean cotton cloth several times a day after oiling.

^^ +1 The adjustable nature makes it easy to have a *really* small load that still gets close enough to the core. :)

Isn't this also accomlished by turning up the VVPS?

OTA...my HI stem was a little too big.

Just took a gong stem and feel good. I got my first taste of hemp oil, though...yech. I don't know why it didn't show up until after about five sessions.

I still can't get over how cool and beautiful this thing looks!

How long did you let it warm up for?
It may be functioning similarly to a column.

Have you been leaving the pod plugged in continuously? That's the best way to evaporate off any remaining oil. I'm surprised you can taste anything at all though.

no...i thought we weren't supposed to leave it plugged in for a long time. I guess I'm wrong...what voltage should i leave it on when not in use?

hazy - Have you tried using only beeswax for a finish? I have been having great luck with it. I use a heat gun to heat up the wood until it is hot enough to melt wax. Then I rub a block of pure beeswax onto the hot wood. The wax is drawn deeply into the wood fibers. I have a special pair of leather gloves I wear to protect my hands that are totally saturated with beeswax.
I have been providing beeswax beads for people to use for wood conditioning but have been thinking of changing that. I purchased some beeswax lip balm recently and found that it works really well for the wood. Would like to make some wax that can also be used for lip balm. I was thinking about adding hemp seed oil to the beeswax. May have to do some experimenting. Can't remember what you are providing for pod maintenance.

I was initially thinking of beeswax but I prefer the idea of using a drying oil. I really like the hempseed oil and consider it one of the Hot Pod's unique features, so I don't have any plans to change.

I have been leaving my unit on 24-7 with no problems, I run it between 12-13 watts and use it with the gong stem and my zap bubbler, I have great results this way, nice hearty clouds. I havent had much luck with the standard stem, I cant seem to get the same effect from using it. I feel like I really have to push it in the heat port and hold it tight, the hits arent as solid for me. I havent had any issues with the hemp seed oil, guess leaving it on as recommended did the trick. Its really a remarkable little piece, everyone I show it to has to hold it and look it over, they mention the glass inside and really dig the holes around it. I am really enjoying it and like having it in my arsenal.

What a guy!
Well first off let me apologize for being so silent on the Pod testing front. I hadn't had a chance to spend some quality time with my Pod until last weekend. and I felt we needed some real together time before i commented. I was, gladly, able to get some time to give it a good test on Sunday.

As far as the Pod itself, first impressions are very impressive. It runs as good as it looks. It's been plugged in 24/7 and I've settled on 13.6 as a good vaping voltage. It produces a good amount of heat and the holes on the top half let out enough for me to feel little "hot spots" where the holes are. I haven't looked much at the internals, nor the cord as they are working fine. My wife says I need to get rid of the see-through 1970's power cord. On the cord front I am finding the cord length a little short for my use, but as I have mentioned before, it is an easy piece to replace.

I did spend a fair amount of time with the glass pieces. For comparison purposes I used my maple Zap, which Fredrick is familiar with, and my Glass Blowers Direct FC bubbler, which others of you are familiar with. I found the Pod had no trouble milking a larger bubbler like that, though I think it is better paired with a smaller bubbler.

Using the direct draw stem and I found it's short length and dry draw a little too harsh for me. This is no different then any of my other vapes, I just don't care for direct draw. If I were to change anything about the direct draw it would be a longer stem.

Using the WPA stem was a good experience, like my other log vapes the Pod seems made to be paired with a bubbler (but that could just be me). Both stems are easy to load, fit nicely in the heat port, and produced excellent vapor.

One of the things I had to adjust for with the WPA was the screen. I found the weave a little too open. I also had trouble keeping it at one depth, so I ended up replacing it with another larger screen with a tighter weave. I found a drill bit that fit inside the WPA with a little wiggle room and crimped the screen around it with some pliers, and pushed it in. The larger size of the screen gave it a little more grip.

I tried different bowl "sizes" by moving the screen up and down, with a deeper bowl it seemed that the top would get nicely toasted but the bottom would stay a little green. So I ended up setting it fairly close to the top for a smaller bowl. I found this way it gets nicely toasted in the first hit.

The problem this causes is; I can clear a bowl like that in one hit. To load another bowl I have to grab this hot little nubbin' of a bowl if I'm using it in a 14mm joint.

An 18mm reducer solves this problem by giving you something other then the bowl to grab onto.

I haven't formulated a concrete solution to this but have a couple of thoughts. I'm am going to get some other glass joints and let the thoughts flow.

In terms of over all proformance it is passing with flying colors. I find that it uses about as much as my Zap, and gets it to a nice toasty brown

So far it is all systems go with the Pod.

Thats what I noticed as well after using the direct draw a few times also. I think it would be better if it were longer.

I used the direct draw last night and found it comparable to hitting the HI. Then I went to the bubbler and turned it down to 12.8. I liked 12.8 better than 13.2...it tasted better. I'm really loving this thing! I'll do some taste testing later on to see how it does compared to the SS HI.

here for the chicks
I'm still here but do not have much news to report, the Pod is still going strong here on this end

I did leave my Pod placed upside down accidentally for at least 4 hours yesterday, but am happy to report it caused no damage to the Pod nor the power cord.

I wonder how your stem gets so hot Newvape, do you it it that long or leave the Pod sitting on it perhaps?

Mine usually just gets slightly warm at most. I found it quite a relief after burning myself countless time to the SS tip of the CRZ stem (I use the same one as you with my HI). You don't have a Vapocane do you? They come with this little heat resistant silicon thingie you could use to grad a hot stem it.

I prefer a larger/longer bowl myself (damned tolerance), but I do dump out the load to stir it every other hit or so, until it's spend and evenly dark colored. On average I put at least twice that much in my HS stem, but I get many many hits from that, about 12 to 14 on average I'd say. I don't often take very long hits though, usually I just fill the bub and clear it.

Good find, what size drill bit is that?

I still think more refined stems/screens would be a good thing.

Hazy...I think you could go one of two ways with this vape. You could go the minimalist, MFLB route which emphasized simplicity and nature. The POD lends itself to this easily given its natural form (btw, I found myself wondering what they look like before you get your hands on them, like in the wild...there's probably a pic of them in the front of this thread), and in this case I think your simple stem screens would fit the niche. Or, you could go the fully refined work of art route, which I think would call for stems like Alan's along with an elegant VVPS solution (you've already got the POD itself down as far as art is concerned). The POD also lends itself to this as well. It is exquisitely finished. I love how the heat port is flush with the top and how the plug inlet is well hidden underneath. This seed pod just seems to have been made for this application...you really have found the perfect housing for this type of vape...well done!

As for testing, this design (log vape) has been through the ringer for years and works fine. It works as well or better than any other log vape I have had. The only things I think are worth testing at this point are taste and durability. Taste because you are using glass. Durability because you are new to the game. But I already think this thing is a winner and anyone would be lucky to get one.

thanks null...I looked some up as well and can't believe the difference between their natural state and how they look after Hazy has gotten them!

Did you see any of the other art folks make from these things? I've got an even greater appreciation for the A Hot Pod now than I ever did! I really love that last one. Funny, when I first saw the Hot Pod I kinda thought it was ugly. I couldn't disagree more now.

just put down a bowl at 12.5 and finished with a final draw at 12.7. Tasted great and got around five really good hits...amazing and I am baked! I started playing with the stem/screen and actually enjoyed it. I was able to stir it easily holding it shut tight between my finger and thumb, and sticking the stir pick in at an angle and turning it. This let me stir it while my finger kept the top tight and none got out. Then I started using the stir to push the bowl down, then stir it like above, then push it back up against my finger to get a nice tight pack. I hope this makes sense...I'm vaked.

The only drawback so far for me is that the draw is noticably more restrictive than my HI. Better than the Solo and PD, but not the HI. The diameter of the glass heatport on the POD is narrower than the SS heatport on the HI, so the draw is restricted. On this unit, that may be a drawback. I find myself starting at a nice, slow draw (like I would use for the LSV) and then realizing that I can go faster. I'm gonna give it a real Hoover go next time, but I'll bet the draw could be faster on this unit without sacrificing vapor thickness. Is the hole on the top of the POD natural, or are you drilling it? Have you tried drilling a wider hole for more airflow?

Let's drop the bottom on this thing to create more inner space and put a battery in there for portable use. I absolutely love this thing and would shit a brick if I could take it on the go for vaping!
