9mm Male 8mm Female Adapter?

Hello!

I recently purchased a Dani with a really cool custom stem. I want to use my CXL head on it, but cannot for the life of me find an adapter to do this. I have a 8mm male to 9mm female to put the Dani on an 8mm stem.. does the opposite version exist?

I have no doubt I can help make what you need, but I'm having a hard time trying to picture what you need. Can you (or someone) send me a draft a rough sketch of what you need? Preferably with measurements so I know what dimensions I'm working with.

I'd likely make the part using surgical grade stainless steel (probably wouldn't cost more than $15 for a small adapter), or I could work with one of several different glassblowers depending on the needs.

You can fill out a custom request form on my site, or shoot me a private message here- let's make it happen:science:

Excellent!

I know I have this which does the reverse of what we need.

Basically swap the sizes of the female and male joint.

At the moment it accepts a 9mm Fusion head in the top female joint and the bottom male connector is 8mm for connecting to stock dynavap stems etc. We need the opposite - top female joint to be 8mm to accept dynavap/tempest tips etc and the bottom male connector to be 9mm to connect to BFG Fusion stems etc.

I think I’ve explained this right but maybe one of the others can chime in and confirm either way?

This is exactly right! We'd need the cutouts for the o-rings just like the adapter that papa linked. Having @Delta3DStudios make this would be huge! You're one of my favorite vendors already!

This sounds very doable, but I would need to know what size o-rings you intend to use (thickness + inside diameter) so I can model them in the software).

If I'm gathering this correctly - you need a female which is 8mm Inside Diameter, and then on the bottom you need a 9-mm male joint, with O-ring notches? Dude that would take me seconds to make, complete with a tapered inlet to avoid any hard angles which would be harder to clean.

Cost wise we'd be looking at less than $15+ shipping made with surgical grade stainless steel.

I'm putting together another bulk order of metal prints from my printing partner, turnaround time is about five weeks (or less) so I do it in large batches. If anyone is willing to help with beta-testing, I'll absolutely make this happen. Just shoot me a private message.

Someone please contact me if you have the vape parts and willing to help do testing. I could have the 3D model finalized in minutes once I have the dimensions of the o-rings lol

This is perfect! Looks like standard O Rings are 8mm OD 6mm ID 1mm Width. I'd buy two right off the bat, and it sounds like there are a lot of other people who are interested. Once you post this in the Dani thread you'll probably get tons of interest from people with 9mm stems and other devices with 8mm tips.

I’d also officially commit to buying one @Delta3DStudios.

i can’t commit to the testing part but happy to put my money where my mouth is.

Awesome, so y'all want it to work with o-rings which have an 8mm OD (7mm nominal) 1mm thickness.

Totally doable. Do you want something with some cool design (like heat dissipating fins) notched into the side of the middle section, or knurl finish for that added cool factor?

I can add engravings or details to sweeten the deal. Also need to know how deep each side needs to be internally - 10mm? 15mm?

Once I hear back from y'all I'll take a quick screenshot of the finished design and add it to my next batch of metal prints (takes about a month)

I'll start with one copy to confirm it fits before I start printing dozens of copies of course

Circling back on this. Looks like the length of the connector should be about 80mm. Probably the same for internal 8mm hole. I'll defer to you for the finish, but I think that cooling fins would be cool!

Sorry that measurement is not correct lol. I'll measure it later, but probably 9 to 10mm.

Ok cool, I'll make both ends 10mm, with two o-rings on the one side, I should have time this weekend to finish that - maybe I'll share a teaser of the rendering here to get y'all excited :-)
Any chance you could do 3 orings on the connector side?

I promised I'd whip up a rough draft this weekend ;)

Here's what I have compiled so far

This adapter has an 8mm female opening (straight round opening, One centimeter deep. I've added some details such as cooling fin notches on the sides to help dissipate heat (because this steel will get hot! the fins help it cool down faster), plus of course I have to etch my sweet logo because why not

The male side is the curiosity..... because you said you wanted a 9mm male fitting. However the O-rings have an outside diameter of 8.0mm. As such I had to make the metal part 7.0mm with the 8.0mm OD o-ring etched into the design.

So, right now this is currently an 8.0mm to 8.0mm mm adapter hahaha.

I think we need either a different size o-ring, or I'm not accounting for some stretch in the o-rings... Any input before I finalize this design for metal 3D printing would be great!

I currently have the middle merge section is half a centimeter, but I could shrink that if you want a steeper angle in the middle.

Any feedback on the 9mm male side? With an 8mm oRing we're off by 1mm..... so I'm afraid it will be a loose fit

It looks really cool! Any chance you can space them out to add one more o-ring? I really don't know a lot about o-ring sizes but wouldn't it have to be a bit smaller than 9mm to fit inside of a 9mm stem?

Yes I can try to add one more o-ring in there.

I was going off the O-ring dimension you provided for the 9mm side.... I need you to measure that o-ring for me so I can match it. I believe you measured and said it's 8mm which makes no sense because it would be a loose fit if it is trying to fit a 9mm opening.

So that's my concern. Right now my design has an 8.0mm female opening, and the male side (designed to work with the 8mm measured O-rings) is 8mm.

So it's currently a useless adapter haha. Once I confirm what size O-rings you want to use on the male side of this adapter, I can finish the design and get it 3D printed.

Awesome! So looking at the specs, I think these are the o-rings for the stem connection:
3 viton o-rings, each measuring 9mm in OD and 1mm in thickness
