420EDC: TiStash

As discussed in the Grinder Thread here on FC, the TiStash is the 2nd product from 420EDC. We launched the TiChillum 2 years ago out of 3D Printed Titanium and wanted to keep things simple on our 2nd product in terms of machining. The TiStash is a titanium cylinder capped at one end, sealed via an o-ring in the lid.

• Inside depth: 68mm
• 6AL4V Series Titanium grade 5

No photos at this point. We are 6-7 weeks from completion.

Would having the product name on the tube: TiStash prevent you from buying one? Go totally blank?

Decided to leave 420EDC off it for sure. This will house a short stem for the Milaana or ≈2 grams of ground herb. Initial units will be available in polished titanium. We'll have some anodized as time progresses in small batches in house and with some other anodizing artists.

We'll do some in Polycarbonate for 18650s.

A stash tube in Ti scratches an itch I've had for some time and I would love one in polished Ti. Plain, yet polished Ti is my favourite kind of Ti! I know lotsa customers will only want an anodised option however, colours are cool and add a bit of customisation. I've seen/read of instances of difficulties in anodising tubes where both ends aren't open, but if you'll be working with Fancypants artists then I'm betting they've got it sorted.

@cannabis.pro You're to be commended for reaching out, asking questions and most of all, listening to your peeps. So many wouldn't even consider leaving their branding/logo off in deference to customers' preference or the social reality that many still deal with, irregardless of legal status. Your efforts with the exclusive Mendo Micro 3-piece and interaction with the community in that thread really highlights your remarkable attitude and made me go check out your website. I suspect I'll be giving you money soon!

You are correct in the anodizing of tubes, one of the folks who inspired the brand makes pens (damn good ones at that) and he had issues fulfilling my request on some anodize colors with tubing. The initial TiStash variants will be polished Titanium.

Your next product should be a multi piece dynastash. It would be a 2xl garage unit with a hinge on top. The two main garages Could be connected or disconnected via a dovetail.

The bottom of the stashes would each have an optional herb or concentrates compartment that screws onto the bottom.

I think the vap stashes might be lined with delrin or something else to protect our fancy stems, bodies or vongs!

Due to the potential of any of these caches being used for cannabis storage, Delrin would not be the best plastic to use for cannabis storage. Sure it could be used to store metal, glass, or batteries. Delrin is cheaper to machine/source than Polycarbonate but I'm leaning towards Polycarbonate due to its food storage safety over Delrin.

Got notification that production started last night. Might have these sooner than expected. Doing a very limited batch with:

We had to delay the start of this project briefly so that we could include a very small run with a special material. There will only be one of these TiStash available to the public in this first batch. Grade 5 Ti64AlV will be the main material used for 99.2% of this first batch. Stay lifted & tuned!

Wasn't easy to find in the specs we needed but glad to have found something before production had to start. Epic is what we are shooting for on this! Need to get a new torch and some other supplies for these.

I presume they will be dipped in acid to bring out the Damascus after manufacture?

We won't be dipping these. Torching them is the best way to bring the colors out on the Timascus and gives us the ability to get more than 3 colors with minimal effort. We'll be acid dipping some of the plain Ti for color and have a few other ideas we'll be dropping on them and the TiCD via acid/electric anodize.

The Timascus is very hard to source and not easy on the wallet. Should we decide to tweak the design in a 2nd batch, we'll possibly do a beta run in Timascus first. We could also do follow up beta runs in Timascus if we can source the material and if there is a demand.

Ideally they are done in 2 weeks, another week in transit from the machine shop. Throw in another week because I'm not sure if production started right away once the Timascus showed up. So 4 weeks is my projection.

What is the price point of the plain stashes?

Plain stash price point will have a MSRP of $69 or $79, probably do an introductory price/FC price of $59.

When will I be able to hold one in my grubby mitts?

Probably a month, maybe less.

What will be the approximate price points for other projected treatments?

Anodize of plain TiStash for a single color will be $10+
Specialty anodize via masking, multi color and other methods $20+
Beadblasted finish could be an option too, not sure of price point extra on that, my guess is $5-$10+.

Timascus will be $599 but we'll do this first one available to the public for $420 once we torch it.

No worries on the Timascus. Just doing it because it is better than paying taxes and eye candy that can melt your wallet. Heirloom grade is where we are going. Thank you for understanding this aspect of our brand. Makes me think I'm not crazy and someone else out there gets it.

At the risk of giving an unhelpfully specific thought, I'd like something like this but with an OD more like 10mm, which is roughly the size of a doob tube. I have a nice carrying case that holds a doob tube plus grasshopper vape, and if it could be a Ti tube, oh how nice that would be. But I appreciate that may not be a usecase that's popular enough to cater to.

Our TiWarez line is something that we would like to grow and expand upon with success. 10mm is pretty narrow, even a Doob Tube comes in at 15mm OD, but I'm guessing you are looking for a rapid loader for the Grasshopper. This would be very close to a Titanium pen/pencil tubing setup.

We've played with other makers gear for years in working on coming up with the TiStash. It is something we wanted to move into sooner but didn't want to rush it. I have some cache's between 10-15mm ID and it's not much room for material & working with it freely so we decided we needed to go wider.

Looking forward to seeing how these turn out as well. Shouldn't be much longer.

Oh yeah, I mismeasured, 15mm is what I meant. I didn't mean a rapid loader for the Grasshopper (interesting idea in its own right, but given the need to keep the threads near the chamber as clean as possible I don't think anything could beat the funnel from Delta3DStudios (thanks @Ratchett!)).

But I understand that 15mm may be too hard to work with, that's fine, I would find any amount impossible to work

Got an update from the machine shop on these, we are looking at 1-2 weeks before complete. Then a week in transit. Just as I expected, we got bumped back in the que a bit waiting for composite material to arrive. All is going great on the machining side.

TiStash lid that still needs some finishing steps, but this should give everyone a better idea of what we are working on.

Once these are cleaned up they'll go through final finishing steps and engraving on a small portion of the batch.

I'm really looking forward to torching the Timascus and then doing some electric anodizing work on some others.

We'll have one available in Titanium Damascus once clean it up and torch it. The other will be used for MARKeting. We weren't able to source it from the folks who call it Timascus™ as they didn't have any available in the dimensions we needed at the time. The other supplier we found only had 2 alloy available and luckily we kept searching and found the specs we needed in a 3 alloy rod.

Price on the one available will be $420 while future iterations will likely be more like $599 or higher when we get to a second batch.
