2022 Most Reached For

I have a v3 micro. I've never combusted in that I just don't use it to often. I'm not sure what it is about the noisy cricket but I just love it
I've got the V3 Micro, NC, and Knotty Topper, I don't think I've ever combusted in one of them. I always considered them to be fairly easy (and extremely productive), but that also encourages riding the line. Not to discourage that, just so anyone interested in them knows they're really easy to get great results from, and you can push 'em. To some degree. ; )

I agree about the Noisy Cricket, it is a damn fine vape!

Unregulated Tendencies
My 2022 was a renaissance year for butane.

Vapman Italia really breathed new life into an old stalwart. The OG users were right all along. Small but deadly in good hands— the Walther PPK of butane vapes. Also love how Rene keeps popping up in threads like some Swiss craft Bill Murray.

2022 is also the year I finally snagged a Lotus. Enough said. The (green) lightsaber of vapes. Thank you, Vapefiend, for releasing new old stock at the old prices. Someone should really pull a Vapman and start selling new ones. Even just hot plates…

Then there’s the Anvil. So good I bought a hook. The cartoon dropped-anvil of vapes. Thanks, scarf-wearing, opera-loving, basement-toking vaporent. I was on the fence but you knocked me off like Professor Plum in the library with the lead glass pipe.

The TA could’ve been my fourth in four seasons but there’s a toad in Canada that ate up all my budget. Leaving it for 2023, the return of unregulated!

LOL i haven't heard of 90% of these.

Just to get my head around all these options i wanted to figure out what all were based on how the dry herb/concentrates would be heated:

1. Mains power - if you plug it in to vape, it sort of makes it a desktop unit (like volcano)
2. Battery power - I guess this gets further down into whether it is wax pen, or just for dry herb , or both! But what really constitutes an e-Rig?? its own category?
3. Torch heating - maybe like terpcicle or Dab rig (i know diff vaping material again)
4. Other direct Heating - like one of those Ball Vapes or other type of conduction device

Did i miss a category?

Being a newbie i only have a PAX Plus & a recently acquired Boundless Terp Pen Spectrum. I did buy a nail for my bong but failed miserably. Sorry about getting off topic a bit. sorry didn't realize until after the post this was an old thread

These were all very common vapes in 2022 and many continue to be widely used and available. Welcome to FC and dry herb vaping!

How you categorized vapes is up to you, but typically people categoize them in a few different ways:
  • Material type
    • Dry Herb
    • Concentrate
  • Heating type
    • Convection
    • Conduction
    • Hybrid
  • Power source
    • Plug-in
    • Battery
    • Torch
Obviously these overlap and can be further divided. Most people tend to also divide vapes into portable and desktop/plug-in.

To me these categories are simply helping when you are thinking about your use cases.

Much better than my attempt.

Only forgot on demand vs session style
God damnit. That is probably the category I use most often. Good call.
what is definition of on demand vs session? Does this functionally change how a vape works?
On-demand typically means that the vape only heats you weed when you engage the heater. Session typically means the heater stays engaged and cooks your cannabis while you are in a "session". Also on-demand can mean the heater is available to use within seconds, rather than a slower heat up.

In the portable category, a popular example of on-demand is the Tinymight. The S&B Mighty is an example of a session vape.

what is definition of on demand vs session? Does this functionally change how a vape works?

That is exactly it, it describes how it is used functionally, on demand means you have full control, often with a button trigger or sometimes even a draw sensor, so it is the style of use (you could have a heater constantly running, but then you use it on demand, or you could have a heater that engages on demand as well) compared to session style, which is much more automatic, running constantly, but also creating the vapor for you, whereas on demand is much more manual control

On demand are usually convection and are meant mainly for one or two big rips where as sessions are more conduction style and keep everything hot and ready to go for the duration of your session.

Usually, but not exclusively at all, there are some rare convection session, but they are typically considered more hybrid as the radiant conduction builds, meanwhile there are actually some on demand conduction options, like the original MFLB, vapman, and now firewood7-9 as well (on demand conduction is actually the way oil cartridge pens work too) another aspect of this impacts the temp control, with on demand being more manual, but that is also relative to the convection aspect a lot... Variables!

Well i know this is an old thread but sorry about hijacking it!

But thank you everyone for sharing all your knowledge! Most of the other articles i see out there seem to come from vendors and i seem to take their inputs with maybe a grain of salt since they have a purpose of selling their own devices.

Yes welcome, unfortunately most mainstream is full of misinformation, especially cannot trust vendors or their reviews, best stuff under the radar

I wasn't smoking , vaping or anything in 2022! I was in my 35 year abstinence break. I had no plug or friend that partaked so i was SOL. My state went legal in 2023.

Funny how my first puff when i restarted i remembered how much i loved the feeling. It all came rushing back. I was a daily smoker in college, but in retrospect we knew so little and the majority of what you got was brick weed Colombian w tons of seeds.
