100% Decarb With The NOVA

I went ahead and ordered one as I’ve never had good luck decarbing my oil in the oven and hope this method will work better. I ordered it three days ago and got a shipping notice today, very surprised as I went with the free shipping. I’m really curious when it will actually end up here. I called them and left them a message with a question that same day and Ive still never heard a response so it is clear where their priorities are...

Should be there promptly. I ordered one two weeks ago and went w/ free shipping. Ordered on a Friday evening and it was shipped on Monday. At my house on Thursday.

I like it a lot. Minimal smell. No monitoring toaster oven temps. Glad I bought it.

Mine got here today, I'm very impressed with the shipping. The build quality looks a bit cheap but I have yet to test it. I have a few questions for those who have one already: Is it normal for the purple and black parts that make up the outside to be able to easily be twisted? It seems like that should be tight but I don't know. Is it normal for there to be a little nub sticking out of the bottom of the oven? Is it normal for there to be a brown oily looking substance around the bottom of the oven edges? Should I wash the internal parts or do a 'dry run' of the machine first before using it to decarb? Thanks for any help, I will post a review once I use it to decarb some oil.

Mine also has the black bottom end twist easily. (more than I expected) I washed the aluminum cup before using. Be careful, the edges are a bit thin and can cut. Not sharp exactly, but a rolled edge would have been nice.

But, it worked well. Much easier than making a foil packet and monitoring temps in the toaster oven. My wife loved the tincture that resulted from it's first run.

Good Luck!

I'm getting ready to probably buy another one this 4:20.

As much as I like the souse method in theory having a Nova is still worth it to me for being that lill bit simpler. I will check with my non imaginary, non twin, only slightly evil sister. Unless she specifically wants to be water cooking stuff for our parents a Nova it will be.

So far my experience with my unit has not been great. Shipping was really fast but after testing it a few times with several grams of oil I came to the conclusion that it was either getting too hot or not hot enough as I wasn’t feeling anything from my allegedly decarbed oil. I contacted the company and they told me to ship it back to them on my dime. After some complaining they finally offered to Pay for shipping so I sent it out yesterday on their dime. I will report back after I get my new unit to let you guys know how it goes but so far I am definitely less than impressed. Should have just gone with the sous vide machine I guess...

So far not so good... unit two arrived and I put about 5 gs of oil in it and it proceeded to stay on for over 3 hours and burn the oil. It also wouldn’t shut off, I had to unplug it. Then I plugged it back in and...nothing. No lights. Nothing. Unplugged and tried again and got lights but I can’t afford to keep waisting money on oil like this.

I contacted them about getting a refund and they hesitated, but later decided they would let me return it if I pay to ship it back and pay a $20 restocking fee. I can’t believe that they expect that after all I’ve gone through with this device. I have told them I expect a full refund and am awaiting a response.

I will update the thread once they make a decision. I really hope they do the right thing here but we will see...

Crap aj0125; that sucks! Especially as I think remembering that you are on a tight budget?

The first 2 they send me were non functional; the third I decarbed a LOT with before it gave up the ghost. But when it did, it effectively vaped 1/2oz into my kitchen. Sounds like maybe yours vaped the oil you put in.

While I like the product concept they need to tighten their QC. Having the thing destroy meds for someone on a tight budget could be devastating. And given that the design and demographics are plug and play I expect most using it ARE medical in nature.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
$ is tight for a start up so I can see why they might like you to pay return shipping. But WTF?!? Seriously? They tried to get me to pay for returning the non working ones they sent as well. DO. NOT. DO. IT. If anything they should be $ you for the oil it ate.

Please keep up posted.:sherlock:

Finally got my money back after several back and forth emails, I did have to pay 15 bucks to ship it back to them so with shipping and oil testing I'm out a couple hundred dollars and hours of frustration. Not going to say don't buy one but I really wish I hadn't, I'm a very high tolerance and poor medical patient who cannot grow their own due to living situation so this ordeal really set me back...

Read this whole thing, very interesting indeed.

Apparently they only make the one unit now, RIP Lyft....

This IS a pricey item, and the bulk of the thread is years old: I would love to hear an update from folks on their opinions, experiences, and whether or not they’d do it again.

I’m also curious if this device has caused people to modify their favorite recipes due to changes in strength/potency.

@ClearBlueLou - i got a NOVA almost 2 years ago - used it a bit, then April a year ago ran about 12 oz thru it to make RSO for gf who was dealing with melanoma - evidently that was successful.

And two nights ago i watched a video of Shanel explaining decarboxylation and it dawned on me that sub-lingual is possible and eliminates doing an extraction with ethanol, my previous solvent of choice. This provides pretty fast and easy decarb of herb - she says you can use concentrates, too - total time for my unit is 90 minutes with 10g of herb in the can. So, now gf is using to help with her chronic insomnia - she is finally getting 4 to 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep - this is BIG!!!

The NOVA was on sale at Festivus time so i got another one for a friend. It is currently available with free fast shipping.

So, to answer your question, i didn't use recipes - i don't want to take a lot of sugar with my drugs - but this sub-lingual method is a game changer for me. And saves a fuckton of time (doing extraction) and money (Everclear).

i am an enthusiastic owner/user ... i will eventually get a backup.

Thank you! I’ve had minimal success with edibles (I got a brownie from a friend that I really felt, once), but I love to cook and my lungs complain even with vapor, so it seems inevitable that I make the switch.

It is a pricey thing, but I have distrusted all previous methods of attempting the task, and I’ve tried a few. If the claims of improved potency, etc hold true, then this starts to seem like a necessary investment.

I appreciate your comment - are there more active discussions elsewhere? That you know of?

I've only owned my Nova for a handful of months, but I would purchase it again. I make tinctures for the wife and this is MUCH easier than making a foil packet and using the toaster oven. Just put the product in the Nova, turn it on, and take it out in a couple of hours.

I've asked her about the potency vs my old method. She feels it may be a bit more potent, but it certainly is not less. I'm pleased with the ease and consistency of the finished product and would definitely purchase it again.

Good Luck w/ your decision!

Was the Lift discontinued? Did they just stick with the "NOVA" product name? I noticed that the Lift is no longer listed on their website. I didn't think there was a difference between the two other than one was marketed for medical use.

Yes, they just have the one now. The units were the same so they decided it was silly to sell both.

Here’s a wild stab - anyone know if Ardent is considering USB power for the Nova?

Troubles being discreet with the oven, Nova all of a sudden became a must have!.... Came in the mail yesterday . Decarbed 16g's of a mix of Dutch dragon, Jack diesel and astroboy. Looking for a long lasting uplifting, euphoric buzz...

Instructions say a fine grind is not necessary, so i broke down all the bud into popcorn size. However I also didn't grind the final product before putting it into the crock pot. Hopefully this doesn't affect the outcome !

Decarbed bud looked like it should... Coconut oil steeping as i type. Will report back with results

I bought a Nova when they first came out. I like mine, but I'm a gadget guy. I am a chronic user, so I find I must ingest a large amount of THC to feel anything. I decarb concentrate with the Nova, and dilute with Everclear for tincture, or drawn butter or coconut oil to combine w/melted chocolate for treats, etc. I put the concentrate in a shot glass and place it in the Nova. Legal concentrate in my state has THC values listed, so it's easy to figure out THC/dose. For example, if concentrate is 80% THC, then in one gram there are 800 mg of THC. Add enough alcohol or oil to make an ounce. In one liquid ounce there are approx. 590 drops. So each drop contains 1.35 mg THC. I often (not always) add a gram of liquid sunflower lecithin prior to decarb.

I’ve been eyeing this for a really long time but with a price tag of $300cdn before tax, I want a unit that has a better build. I keep reading how the company cheaped out on materials. I’m hoping with pot legalaization happening in October, maybe a similar machine will be made available to the masses by a rival company.

I've also been wondering why no one else has come with another version of this product?!
@johnnyCanuck got mine from herbal café in Toronto. $338 cdn including shipping before taxes + discount code mentioned on the website. Came to $338 total...

If it works as advertised and lasts many, many cooks, i won't complain and will probably purchase another to replace it...
