I don't have the FC 187, but the dewar on my GB-187 is just as wonky, has too much glass, barely allows a solid connection.

I also use this technique on several of my mini rigs, each has a short glass extention held in place with silicone to make using it more comfortable, so close to the face. It works quite well, and really doesn't look bad IMO, easy to remove for cleaning etc... I even used one of those old school...
