My number is 8669 and I would go for the Convector. This is a new device to me and it seems quite interesting. Have seen the vids of someone using it in the Tempest thread.
Thanks for the contest...
Thanks. I was looking for that. ;)
added: Shipping is apparently paused for a week. I hope that's because @Brenyo is taking a quick vacation in anticipation of the crazy that is about to come. Rest up, my friend. Rest up...
The head of the Tempest is too large for most of the current crop of induction heaters. That is why you will see most people using the wand. I think there is one other induction heater out there that will fit it, but other than that, their receivers are too small. I am not familiar with the two...
Somebody tried to talk me into driving 200 miles south to see this eclipse in totality and somehow I just can't motivate myself for that. Eclipses are really cool, especially in places where there are animals because they all do seem to respond in some way or another, but I'll get about 90% of...
When I'm using it on the stem, I keep it open about 1/3. If I think of it when I put it on glass, I usually close it a little more but if I forget to change it it still works well enough about 1/3 open.
There is a wide range of methods that people are using to get the most out of their Tempest with the wand. I haven't posted about my technique, partially because it seems different from what most other people are describing. I have my wand set at 420F. I do a half bowl almost always. I have...
I've had this since around the first weekend December. It has had many baths in ISO. I don't see any changes in the color so far. My head is on a glass piece right now, so this is just the stem.
Today's starships 3rd launch attempt was very successful. There is some really incredible video from the flight. Quite entertaining. They lost Telemetry and video during the landing phase so there are no videos of the splashdown in the Indian Ocean but all in all it was a successful test flight...
Yes, I am using one of the wooden sleeves from my Revolve on my Tempest. I haven't tried sticking the Tempest head on a Revolve but I suspect that would work well too. The cooling units between the two are very similar. The biggest differences may be in the mouthpieces, which are, of course...
I don't have a Tempest wooden sleeve yet, but I have been effectively using a revolve one recently.
The Tempest Head has a lot more mass than a vapcap tip so it's not a surprise that it has a lot more heat to shed and that will go to the stem if it has no other place to go and can't radiate it...
The tempests head has its own air flow adjustment. You grab the steel portion of the head, squeeze it and turn it adjusting 4 slits that control air coming into the head. There is also an adjustment in the stem, like the revolve. Someone took a video of the head adjustment that should be above...
@HaggisHunter has about the most discolored Tempest head I have seen. Here is a link to his post... https://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-tempest-by-mad-heaters-phatpiggie.54063/page-165#post-1779772 He has it on revolves in this post.
I see @Smknbud already mentioned this above. Sorry...
I'm of the impression that the Wand doesn't detect temperature at all, and that it operates solely on time. In other words, increasing the "temperature" in the device just increases the amount of time that heat is applied. I'm sure somebody said this early on, but it also is apparent from my...
:p
I tend to buy my glass direct from the vendor like Goo Roo, from consolidators like DHGate or AliExpress, or from stores like Ebay or Etsy. Call me cheap but I am unlikely to go to a scientific supply house.
I have to say, this project looks really interesting. I have had a lot of good...
