I just wanted to add that while I messed up the spring for the VI, the click disks are working great. While the VI is a very helpful method of determining the temperature status of the load, I can very effectively use the Tempest without it.

Well, that's a relative question. It has gone well for most people. In my case, it did not go well, and I damaged the spring so the VI is not working properly. I'm blaming old hands that don't move as well or as precisely as they used to, and bad luck. Hopefully I'll get it right the second time.

I'll just have to be more careful this time around. The good news is I have another head that I had ordered, so I am not Tempestless. Now THAT would be sad.

I always use the SCU when I'm using the stem because I need the extra cooling. I'm not sure how much extra cooling you actually get, but my lungs are weak these days, so I like it as cool as I can get it. I also always do a half bowl.

Rise has some good sales, but the one near me is Recreational only. The savings on taxes are the only thing that makes dispensary cannabis possible for me. Otherwise, it would be too expensive and I would have to go back to the black market.
