@ubardog still working on an answer to your question..
Yep, Bloke's picture is closer to the real colour of the oak unit. Took it down the beach this afternoon
for a glamour shot :)
Cloudy day with flat light doesn't manage to convey the richness of the wood tone, tho.
Clearly, I'll...
Here she is :D
Came carefully wrapped in recycled packaging materials
The oak Misty - and what a beauty . Great work, Bloke. Real craftmanship
Mahogany unit there too, keeping it company :)
Plugged it in, selected a suitably epic strain (Skunk #1), and put it to the...
My faithful OG Firefly (and only portable) is more than 3.5 years old and needs gently easing off
into retirement :myday: so this M2G option for those 'away missions' is looking very attractive
* sigh*.. looks like my to-do list just got a bit longer :D.
Don't hold your breath @Megaton - it'll be a while yet.
Still gathering parts, tools and knowledge :)
Local Jewsons does 50mm 'mopstick' in pine, but..
...still dithering about a drill press :hmm:
Anyway, big news at Brainiac Towers - according to a tracking number - new oak Misty unit inbound...
Wongs are high on my to do list. But this is the bit that I find difficult:
Misty took a tumble about a week ago. Got dropped and the heater cover came loose. The unit was still perfectly functional... but it did rattle :\ Bloke advised me on repairs so I got to work :o
Removed the...
Here's an option for that:

What a really attractive lookin log :luv:
Great to see it in the process of construction. I can see that you've screwed down the hc and then covered the screws with an ss washer held in place with a clipring, plus there's a second clipring in the base cavity.
No wonder it passed the drop tests...
Highly professional example of log making you've got there :clap::rockon:
M8 x 25mm x 1.5mm washers arrived yesterday so today I got out the drill.
Drilled three of them out to 10mm (I'll get a 9mm bit next week).
The top three L -> R 1st attempt:uhoh:, 2nd:rolleyes:, 3rd:\. Getting a...
I would be very grateful for that.
Ordered a cartridge heater and two resistors today.
Forstner bits are here.
Slow, but hopefully sure, progress
Welcome @FlyHi and good luck with your project.
@blokenoname
Could you also tell us where you get the ss tubing for the heater cover? I've spent ages looking:zzz:
I know you're busy atm so absolutely no rush. Nothing much is going to happen in Brainiac Towers this side of 2019 anyway.
That looks very tidy
A recessed socket offers that bit extra streamlining.
In visual terms, a significant developement for Misty. Lovely looking unit :luv:
Did you drill the 10mm and then fostner ? Or vice versa ?
Centering the bore is deffo a major and tricky issue.
Love the way that darker band of grain is visible on the outside, up over the top and back out the other side.
Wonder what happend to the tree in that particular year ?
Great to see that restless creativity still going strong
:peace:
That oak has a much richer and warmer look to it now - it's a very attractive log.
You might already have said, but what do you use by way of oil/wax ?
It really does make a big difference.
I bet one of those oaks with a 45 or 50mm diameter body would look quite formidable .
:peace:
I use an ff1 - same battery ofc.
Li-ion batteries are less affected by low ambient temperature then lead-acid but they are significantly affected. I bought a new battery recently but since the weather turned cold here it's not working too good.
So I tried this: when you get a red light remove...
Wow :luv:
That log looks absolutely terrific
Logs are the only vape that can combine technical excellence and physical beauty and I think
you've captured both there
That's the cherry, isn't it. I guessed they'd come out well but that one looks brilliant :D
Keep up the great...
Strong grain effect coming thro there, especially on the ash and cherry.
Out of interest, if the base cap is cut from the same blank can you align the it so that
the grain lines match up ?
Also, you have the rims bevelled atm. Could they be rounded ?
I realise that your primary focus is on...
