I always clean after combustion bc it always leaves a stinky burned residue. Personally I find that soap and water is better for smoke odor than iso. Ymmv!

IIRC someone replied saying that their black Tempest head also discolored somewhat. Black is DLC which is incredibly hard and durable, so it's probably not "fading", I'd think it's more likely to be some type of residue.
