Sorry I thought you were talking about removing the rod. You want the rod to go in the bottom you are correct. I was stating you do not want to remove the rod from the bottom (taking it out to clean it) because that is asking to break the rod and I found out the hard way

You do not want the rod to go out the bottom. This is how majority of rods are broken. It's how I broke my 1st and only rod so far and I was very careful every time making sure it was warm and using a poker. Much easier to go through the top and usually you don't even need it to be warm. @Lou...

Whew that would look horrible that doesn't sound normal. Are you sure the oils your putting in are good, if not you could have some left over gunk that is then turning into ash after a while of being on the rod. But it's normal for your rod to turn black after some use, usually not ashy though...

@dankity3 just order 1-2 Ti coils. You can order the sr74 white rod also. That way if you don't like it you can always switch back. If you change completely to an sr74 there's no going back. I think the sr71 center pin design is better than the spring loaded one anyway... And AAF is not needed...

I disagree. The stems get fairly dirty and stinky. You need to clean them every so often with more than just a dump in toilet and flush. Also the SS chamber gets fairly dirty over time and is a bitch to clean (similar to if you stain the FF bottom) also, I know the airflow is better possibly...

I believe you could run the original tops at 6.0v with those batteries. But those tops weren't designed for Hercules and can blow easily

Depends. If you want to use the old omicron style cartridges (the long silver tubes) then you want the nibbler...these cartridges can hold up to a gram but are better for more liquidy oils... You might be able to use the nibbler with a kiss but I don't have one thus never tried. So I could be...
