I'm so sorry to hear of your loss SirTokesAlot. That is indeed a tragedy. Always a risk with glass I guess. I still have my Toker II that I bought 34 years ago. I'm sure it will die someday too. That will be a sad day. Still enjoying it but now with vapor.
Glad you are enjoying the HI. I'm happy...
Glad to hear it arrived safely SirVapesAlot and that it is working very well for you. The small size and light weight is a bit of a surprise. It does pack a punch though.
Hope you are finding just the right temperature setting and it is handling your glassware well.
I look forward to the review...
I have wanted to use fine screens in my roasting tubes to limit the particulate, but they always clogged too quickly which resulted in poor airflow. I tried hammering some fine screens tonight and it is working very good so far. The airflow is not affected and much less (if anything) sticks to...
OhTheAgony - I know a good idea when I hear it. Always trying to make something for which people ask. The glass tubing has now been ordered. They will be primarily for water filtration if it works.
biojuggernaut - Sounds like an all glass bowl may be just what you need. Hammered screens should...
I'm not sure of the power draw requirements of inverters. You should be fine if it can provide 1 amp or more.
Here is a photo of a walnut HI with a variable voltage (1 to 12 volts) power supply. The box of the power supply is 8.5cm x 4.5cm x 3cm.
Nice HI Vamp. It looks just like the one I gave my son for Christmas. He gave me that wonderful Launch Box. He also gave me that maple burl wood as a present a few years ago. Finally found a excellent use for it.
Thanks psyshaman. I'm finding it a bit more difficult to make a HI from any piece...
Thanks GhostVapor. You caught me at the right time and I had a purple heart unit mostly complete. Just need to finish it now. I will post a photo when it is done.
The Ambrosia Maple is amazing. Always three holes. What are those ambrosia beetles having a race? Maybe it is just from the same piece of wood that was used to make mom's Zap.
I pour my dirty alcohol into a shot glass and then place the shot glass on top of my heat sink tube to speed...
That might be a bit of a challenge. I have never heated and bent poly tubing before.
The design of the UD is similar to the HI in that they both limit the amount of heat that can be removed from the core to the wood and have a very short / direct air path. More heat is available to heat the...
I thought about reducing the height of the metal sleeve since it doesn't have to be that tall to support the screen anymore. I decided to leave it the same height. It provides covering for the wood plus it provides friction / surface area to hold the center tube in place. Since the only...
Thanks mom and J.R.R.Tokin'. It works very well too.
I have decided to not to install a screen between the center tube and outer tube. It is too easy to dislodge the screen and if something does get below the screen, there is no way to get it out. I like the simple look.
I had some screens that were just a tiny bit small in diameter. I thought if I hammered it flatter, it would also get bigger in diameter. It worked great. The fit was very nice. The screen is a lot stiffer.
The surface of the screen was now very shiny and more of a weave than a screen. The holes...
I received a LB as a present past weekend. All I can say is "Bliss".
My best result is to wait 3 seconds with battery inserted, then inhale moderately easily for 5 seconds, then remove battery and inhale for 2 more seconds. Shake and repeat. Always a great taste for me that way.
Of course you...
The sun was shining today, so here are a couple of photos showing a variation for the power connection. The HI on its side is Dark Cherry (same wood on which it is resting) and was my first attempt for the angled adapter plug. The slot allows for the use of the angled plug and the adapter plug...
Still trying to decide exactly how it will be structured. The new adjustable power supplies(depending upon how well they work) will be an option for the units with the right angle plug adapter in the base since they will be able to use either straight or angled plugs. The adjustable power...
lwien - I can relate my experience with sugar maple wood on the TT. My oldest unit is about one year now. It has been operating pretty much 24/7. I had it unplugged when I drove to CA this fall. When I returned to plug it back in, the wood had taken in moisture and expanded. This allowed the...
Wasn't he having someone else bore the wood bodies for him at the end? If the bottom bore is made too close to the top bore, the wood between them can get very thin. When the wood gets brittle from exposure to heat, it could break and allow the heat exchanger to drop down about 1/4" or more. If...

It appears he may have just gone back into retirement. A shame that he had to do it in that manner.
The hype of the PD was certainly a big factor for me even being here. For that, I am grateful.
I understand that each PD was pretty...
Yes, then it would be like plugging it into the wall at home. They are so cheap and handy for so many things, it makes sense to have one. Another ribbon of thought would be that you are just going to the car for a quick one and you won't have it plugged in long enough for it to get that hot...
I just ordered some power supplies that are adjustable from 0 to 12 volts. They may be just the ticket. The price may be comparable to the fixed voltage supplies. There is no wall wart, so it will be easier to find a place to plug it in. They have straight plugs which should no longer be a...
