It's made of wood. Wood has natural imperfections that might not be immediately apparent, so stuff happens. =) I'm sure they will replace it for you!

I have a VT sitting right in front of me right now and I must say I like it. It feels solid and the simplicity of the twist temp control is very nice. The top part feels like ceramic and does get hot during use -- not enough to burn, but still hot. The mouthpiece feels nice and actually screws...

As it seems the manufacturer is listening to member suggestions here, I'll put my 2 cents in... I'd love to see a version without the "diamond" on the LED. I think just a plastic screen in front of the LED, flush with the metal surface, would look much better. Even better, a flat tip LED mounted...
