I have this M2M with the tophat system and it's my go to setup on glass. I have stuck a screen in the top hat but the design and principle is flawless. It's a shame it didn't work with @elykpeace :(

For cleaning the wooden stems I just use a damp cloth with some knots tied in it, and run it through the tube a few times.
