I believe the "glyph" batteries may allow for a sloppier technique to achieve decent results. I've got a brand new pair of old style I'll use for a couple days and do a true comparison (with my replacement box I simply used the glyphs only).

You can use the HA as a direct draw straight out of the box, the only advantage I could see with the log stem is a forced reduction in load size.
